Volume 3: My days in a college fraternity Chapter 84 The Long Night

Tommy Hawke, with a knitted hat on his head, let the other party carry him and run wildly. He knew that he was taken away, which meant that the brotherhood's new member assessment operation officially began. He had better be obedient at this time, because the guy next to him dressed like a ninja was holding a bottle of anti-wolf spray in his hand. If the rookie dared to take off the knitted hat on his head without permission, the other party would definitely be very happy, because that meant he would have the opportunity to spray the bottle of anti-wolf spray on the other party's face and hear the rookie scream.
"You're being kidnapped, aren't you going to resist at all?" Seeing that they had already reached the backyard of their fraternity, Eric, holding the pepper spray in his hand, finally couldn't help but ask Tommy: "I chose a large dose of pepper spray."
Tommy was carried on his shoulders and heard Eric's voice, and he smiled triumphantly: "I won't give you any chance."
"Hiss~~~~" Hearing Tommy's laughter, Eric decisively pressed the spray button through his knitted hat: "Sorry, Tommy, this thing seems to be leaking, I definitely didn't mean to do that~"
Even through the knitted hat, Tommy felt his whole face suddenly become hot. He closed his eyes and cursed loudly: "Eric! You are the best..."
"Hiss, hiss, hiss~~" Before Tommy could finish, the spray continued to spray out. Eric said with a gloating laugh, "Tommy, how are you? Do you need me to take off your hat so I can check you? Hiss, hiss, hiss~~"
Seeing that Tommy finally started cursing loudly like the other rookies, Eric was satisfied and took Tommy to the backyard. At this time, the entrance to the tunnel in the backyard had been opened, and two strong fraternity members were guarding on both sides like guards. Eric and his companions carried Tommy and walked in along the stairs.
It was unknown how long it was before the knitted hat on Tommy's head was taken off. He opened his eyes carefully and found himself in a place that looked like a secret room for ancient wizard gatherings, with Jason and eight other rookies around him.
Several fraternity members wearing long white robes stood around them, standing still like statues, just staring at them quietly.
This kind of scene and atmosphere made the rookies suddenly feel a little nervous.
"Good evening, rookies. I'm Ted Adams, the new supervisor of SSD. The fact that you can see me means that you are qualified to be a member of SSD. However, you are only qualified. The first question is, who didn't scream when being brought here?" One of the men in a white robe slowly walked up to the rookies and spoke.
Seeing that no one spoke, the new supervisor named Ted said, "Very good, now each of you will do fifty push-ups. That's the price for your screams."
Tommy cursed Eric in his heart, but he bent over and started doing push-ups. A fraternity member came over with a locker. Ted took out a hardcover book as thick as a dictionary and threw it on the back of each rookie, saying:
"This is the SSD's newbie manual. Save it, and then memorize it in the future. It will teach you how to become a qualified SSD brother."
Several rookies quickly finished their push-ups, stood up, and looked at Ted nervously while holding the rookie manual. Ted laughed:
"I know why you are so nervous. You all think we are going to humiliate you and torture you. But I want to tell you, don't worry, that won't happen. We are brothers, not enemies. Take your manuals. The ceremony is over. Now follow me back to the backyard, boys."
After saying that , Ted took the lead and walked towards the stairs. Tommy and the others looked at each other, unable to believe that it ended so easily. However, when they saw the other party leave, several people followed him out.
As Jason walked away, he whispered to Tommy, "I can't believe it. I thought I had to be beaten up in the secret room before I could get the rookie manual. But this ceremony ended so easily."
"You'd better not be too optimistic." Tommy whispered back to Jason.
When they returned to the lawn in the backyard, Ted opened his arms and said to the nine rookies, "We are Spartans. What is the Spartan coming-of-age ceremony like? They exile young men to the wilderness and let them fend for themselves and find their way home. So, this lawn is the wilderness for you young men. You are not allowed to sleep tonight. You must mow the lawn or catch insects. At dawn, we will come and declare that you are officially men."
After saying that, Ted and the fraternity members in white robes actually walked back to Sparta, leaving only nine rookies looking at each other in bewilderment.
There was still food and juice left over from last night in the backyard. Jason looked at his companions and said, "Did we join a fake fraternity? It's too easy to just stay up all night."
"Maybe there have been too many scandals of fraternities bullying freshmen in recent years, so the difficulty for freshmen has been lowered." A rookie gave his opinion.
Although they were not tortured, they were a little bored. In the previous few hours, the nine people could still chat, tell jokes, and read the rookie manual to pass the time. But as the night approached, hunger and cold made everyone a little restless. Jason bit a piece of cold pizza and said to Tommy, "Tommy, think of a way to pass the night."
Tommy was also feeling a little cold, and now he looked at the others and said, "I think it's best to start mowing the lawn now and get myself moving so that we don't freeze to death."
Then he looked at Jason who was eating the food: "Jason, you'd better spit out the food. They didn't say we can eat. It's obvious that they left that food on purpose."
Hearing his words, several people who were putting drinks or food into their mouths like Jason stopped. One of them looked at the food in his hand, sniffed it carefully, and said to Tommy:
"It should be fine. This is leftover food from the party. I remember that."
Some people chose to listen to Tommy and resisted the temptation and put down the food, while others ate the food because they were hungry.
Jason hesitated for a long time, but finally decided to leave the food behind, picked up the tools and started mowing the lawn like Tommy.
Sure enough, after about half an hour, the four people who had eaten began to doze off.
"They put sleeping pills in it?" Jason said to Tommy thankfully, "It's a good thing I listened to you, brother."
Tommy was weeding while observing the few people sleeping on the table. He said with certainty, "They won't be as kind as sleeping pills. Find something to cover these guys so they don't catch a cold."
The sober guys took some felt or something and covered the four people. But as they were covering them, a rookie sniffed the air hard: "Hey, do you smell it? It smells like shit!"
Tommy and his men, who were weeding to get themselves moving, stopped and sniffed the air like each other. Then one of them pointed at the four sleeping men and said, "Shit, these four guys are dead!"
"Sleeping pills and laxatives." Tommy looked at the remaining people and said, "Keep weeding. Don't touch any food or drink. This is their fate."
A rookie said with lingering fear: "If we survive until dawn, we'll win, right?"
"Maybe," Tommy said.
