Volume 3: Dance of the Aurora Chapter 30: Picking a Beam of Light

"Have you ever thought about what the monster's only weakness is?"
Ai Bishui moved her eyes away from the phone screen, looked up at Fang Cheng, and suddenly blurted out something.
This question confused him. He had never thought about weaknesses before. In fact, the "plan" in his mind was just a rough idea and he hadn't thought about the details of implementation at all.
If that plan was a graduation thesis, so far Fang Cheng's mind was only filled with the key words "solar wind", "magnetic flux lines" and "radiation" written at the beginning of the article. In fact, he had not even had time to come up with an abstract.
But the girl sitting opposite him had already written the entire text in her mind.
In fact, Ai Bishui had been thinking about this problem for much longer than Fang Cheng. She had been rehearsing it since she designed the experiment.
If the worst outcome really happens, what kind of characteristics will the creature created by this outcome have?
The answer she got from her reasoning was very despairing. It seemed that humans would inevitably fail completely, but at that time she didn't know that there would be the variable of aliens.
Although she had been hypnotizing herself that she would not win the jackpot while the experiment was still ongoing, it was impossible to stop the random thoughts in one's mind when one felt guilty.
So now her plan is quite detailed.
"I really haven't thought about this...weakness..."
Weakness? This thing isn't a Pokémon, can you design a unique attack method based on its weakness?
"The weakness is that it can't fly."
In other words, they cannot fly yet and have not yet learned to generate their own body structure that can escape the gravity of the planet.
"Ah, can't flying be considered a weakness? Can we use this weakness to destroy it?"
"We can use this to guide it to the place I just mentioned, which is the point in the Pacific Ocean."
"I don't understand that."
When he first discussed the problem with her, Fang Cheng was embarrassed to say that he didn't understand. However, after several months of getting used to it, he can now speak with confidence.
I am a waste.
"The place we are going to is probably a nuclear power plant."
"Um."
"I was wondering if we could take a fuel ball out from there and stimulate a directional ultra-high-energy neutron beam. And then, could we use this beam to attract it to a designated location..."
Fang Cheng did not respond to this question which sounded like a question. This question was too far-fetched for him.
In fact, Ai Bishui was not talking to him, but to T-800.
"Yes, in fact, when I was designed, I had a slot for a neutron fast reactor. Although it may not be very compatible with the neutron source you made, it should only require a slight adjustment ."
Installing such a slot on a surface vehicle is a fairly classic design, and is often just for decoration, like the fake gun ports on the side of a sailboat.
"Can you stimulate high-energy neutron rays in a targeted manner?"
"That depends on how high your energy is. It's a little difficult to reach a neutron beam intensity that can penetrate an entire planet, but it should be no problem to penetrate the atmosphere."
After saying this, both of them were stunned for a few seconds. They couldn't understand how strong the rays needed to be in order to penetrate a planet. The magnitude of this energy was beyond human imagination.
"We should... not need to penetrate the atmosphere. We just need to be able to shoot from its position to the sea level at the point just marked on the map."
Ai Bishui stroked the ends of her hair, which was her usual action when she was thinking.
"Well... in other words, I want to fire this beam of neutrons from the altitude where it is located, so that it will be tangent to the sea level when it reaches the singularity."
Neutrons have no electrical properties and can travel in an absolutely straight line through the air if their energy is high enough.
"You mean, let it swim to that place by chasing the rays?"
That's right, there's nothing strange about Cthulhu being able to swim.
"Yes, it can't fly, so if you want to get fast neutrons you have to go to the ground."
So you're waiting here.
"What's its motivation? Why would it go to so much trouble to chase a ray?"
"I don't know... Actually, I just judged based on the monster's previous behavior. This kind of radiation is attractive to it. I also guessed based on my intuition..."
Based on his many years of experience with Ning Yu'an and his cousin, Fang Cheng unconditionally believes in women's intuition.
In his opinion, this intuition has passed the test of the law of large numbers and can be used as a strong basis.
"Well... let's do as you say, but how can you be sure that it can see this beam of light? If it is shot from high in the sky, can it have such high visibility?"
"High-energy neutrons are ionizing radiation, so they should be able to directly excite the air. The leptons in the air near this ray will be excited and emit light directly. Theoretically, it should be visible to the naked eye."
And because the photons excited by this decelerated radiation are a continuous spectrum, it will create a dazzling band of light in the air.
"And it's afternoon now. If we start emitting this ray in the evening, as long as the moonlight is not very bright, this ray should be clearly visible from the ground."
And because the Earth is rotating eastward, it should have been daytime when the protozoan arrived at its intended location in the central Pacific Ocean.
Only after dawn does the Earth's surface turn toward the stars, giving the solar wind a chance to exert its power.
"The only problem now is the weather. If it's cloudy, that would be ideal..."
Cloudy days have two benefits: first, they block stray light from the sun and moon, and second, they reflect artificially stimulated radiation in the air. On rainy nights in big cities, you can often see neon lights reflected from clouds.
"Well, the weather should be cloudy."
"Hey, how did you know that?"
He also heard on the news while having dinner yesterday that there has been a huge cloud from central China to the Philippines in the past two days. Since yesterday, May 8, it has brought very heavy rainfall to the entire Yangtze River Basin. It seems that it is still raining intermittently in Shanghai until now.
However, Fang Cheng is more accustomed to the weather forecast from his hometown provincial TV station. He still remembers the classic sentence "There will be moderate to heavy snow in the central mountainous areas and the inland areas of the peninsula..." The reason why this sentence is so impressive is that he still doesn't understand where the inland areas of the peninsula are? Is it the peninsula or the inland?

Fang Cheng went over what Ai Bishui had said in his mind. This plan had the best of both worlds and was perfect in his opinion.
I am really impressed. The gap between people is much greater than the gap between people and dogs.
"Then... I'm thinking that we should split up and have one person go high in the sky to act as a light source, while the other person waits in the center of the ocean. When the time is right, we release the magnetic field to guide the solar wind to the ground."
Tomorrow morning, people all over the world will see the most magnificent aurora in the entire history of the Earth.
