Volume 2: Knocking on Heaven's Door Chapter 44 Application approved
A small meeting within Lincoln High School is beginning.
The principal, Nestor Mendes, sat behind the podium in the conference room with a serious expression. The school's Dean of Academic Affairs, Mrs. Martha Wharton, and Vice Principal Louis McDyess sat on his left and right.
"Tommy Hawke, Dennis Herbers, Pam Marvel." Mr. Mendez looked at the three high school students who were sitting on their knees like good kids waiting for questioning. "If you are ready, the school will start questioning you about the Caribbean and American Youth Student Leaders Summer Summit."
Tommy Hawke looked at his two best friends. Dennis responded to Tommy with a wink. As for Pam, she turned her head 90 degrees and ignored the principal's words. She was concentrating on admiring Ottilia Farrell, who was standing beside them and smiling at them encouragingly, wearing a black formal dress, stockings and high heels today.
"Yes, Mr. Principal." Tommy said.
"This activity, abbreviated as CSLS, is said in your application report to be held in two places. One is Lincoln High School in Warwick, which is our school. The other place I saw you chose is Thomas Sanders Secondary School in Kingston, the capital of the Caribbean country of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Son, to be honest, this is the first time I have heard of this country. You need to explain to the school why it is there."
"If this kind of summit is held every year, the venue will of course be adjusted. However, this time it is tentatively scheduled to be held in a middle school in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Maybe it will be changed to the Bahamas next year. First of all, we have conducted a detailed data investigation on the country and are about to set off for an advance inspection..."
"Because that country only has three elementary schools, one middle school, and no university. Let me put it this way, Mr. Principal, even a poor student like me with D grades can be looked up to as a mathematician if I go there. Moreover, the rent is cheap. It only costs fifty dollars a day to rent the entire middle school." Dennis saw that his friend was about to make a long speech, so he interrupted Tommy and told him the real reason.
Tommy lowered his head in despair. "Dennis, we agreed on this. Sorry, Mr. Principal, Mrs. Wharton, Mr. McDyess. In addition to the reasons Dennis said, I can add a few more tactful ones..."
"In other words, we can directly see the difference between American public education and public education in other countries, and let children clearly realize the excellence of American public education?" Provost Martha Walton asked expressionlessly.
Tommy Hawke was stunned for a moment, then nodded: "Of course, there is no doubt that we plan to hold math competitions, baseball competitions, music, painting and art exchanges and other activities with high school students in that country, basically ensuring that American students can get satisfactory competition results."
"It says that you will not only bring American youth student leaders to St. Vincent and the Grenadines for inspection, exchanges and competitions with young students from that country, but also invite some students from that country to come to Lincoln High School in Warwick, USA for exchanges."
"Yes. Although most people in the country make a living by growing bananas and have low incomes, there are still some rich people. Although they are much poorer than the rich Americans, they are already considered rich people in the country. I want to use this summit to attract the children of those rich people and let them bring their money to the United States to study in high school. Of course, there will be a fee for this invitation." Since his bad friend Dennis has taken off his mask, Tommy gave up hiding and spoke.
"The best choice is Lincoln High School, which they have visited and communicated with before? In other words, Lincoln High School is likely to have international students enrolled in the future?" Principal Mendes nodded with satisfaction. "Very good. Then you hope that the school will allocate some funds to support your publicity plan... Tommy, we are very satisfied with your summer summit plan, but the school cannot provide you with too much financial support, although you also stated on it that if you make a profit, part of the proceeds will be donated to the school."
Hearing that the school only wanted to share the money and was unwilling to invest, Tommy Hawke lowered his head and said something very rude in a polite tone: "Mr. Principal, with all due respect, if the school does not support our ideas, then why are we launching this summit at Lincoln High School? We can find another school to affiliate with this organization. I can replace Pam and Dennis with the sponsors , or we can simply register a company ourselves and then go to the high school to discuss cooperation."
Upon hearing that there would be a temporary substitution, Dennis and Pam immediately turned their heads to look at Tommy Hawke, as if they were ready to teach this bastard a lesson if they disagreed with him.
"Watch your tone, Tommy Hawke," warned Mrs. Wharton, the Dean of Studies.
"It's okay, Mrs. Walton." Principal Mendez smiled at Mrs. Walton, then looked at Tommy Hawke and said, "The school can open up seven days of use of all clubs, conference rooms, stadiums, classrooms, school buses, etc. to your summit during the summer vacation. The administrative department can also provide the help you need. We hope to show the best of Lincoln High School to high school students from other countries and other parts of the United States. But in terms of funding, you have to understand that our school does not have much money. At most, we can allocate one thousand dollars in advance to support your activities. What do you think?"
"Thank you, Mr. Principal, although..." Tommy Hawke said with a grateful expression when he heard the one thousand dollars.
Dennis said, "We previously guessed that the school might only be willing to pay 500 yuan, Mr. Principal."
"If you still want to become a co-founder of CSLS and appear as a youth student leader in the United States, you'd better shut up! Dennis!" Tommy turned his head to Dennis frantically.
The principal laughed. "It seems that I have fulfilled your expectations twice. Mrs. Wharton, Mr. McDyess, what do you think?"
"I agree."
"I agree, Mr. Principal."
"Congratulations, kids. Your application for the Caribbean and American Youth Student Leaders Summer Summit Club has been approved. So go do what you like. Remember to notify the school in advance when the official opening ." The principal took the seal and stamped it hard on the application form. "A check for one thousand dollars will be delivered to your instructor for this event, Ms. Otilia Farrell."
Then the principal and the provost stood up and left the meeting room. Ottilia also followed the principal and the other two out because the principal and the other two wanted to remind Ottilia of some things to be aware of.
Tommy and the other two were the only ones left in the meeting room. Dennis scratched his hair with both hands and said, "You're amazing, Tommy. You made a thousand dollars from the school just by writing an application."
"Maybe I could get more if you stopped talking nonsense," Tommy Hawke breathed out.
Dennis patted Tommy on the shoulder and said, "Anyway, I think we need to celebrate. A thousand bucks is enough for the three of us to go to the Paradise Club and vomit."
"I agree too," Pam said from the side.
"You'd better hold yourself to the position of a teenage student leader, Dennis? Go to the Paradise Club with the school check?" Tommy Hawke looked at the two speechlessly.
Dennis replied as if it was a matter of course: "I even use the image of the President of the United States to strictly demand myself. You have to know, Tommy, President Kennedy often went to see striptease with his brother when he was in high school. That's why he became the President of the United States and his brother became a presidential candidate."
