Volume 14: Devastation Chapter 690: Tower of Babel
“Actually, I can’t quite understand…” Aya held the steering wheel tightly with both hands and lowered her voice, “You are already a member of the Undead Crew, why do you have to personally take part in such things? You can just stay behind the scenes like the others…”
"I just can't sit still." Ke Lan shrugged. "Compared to dealing with piles of documents in the office, I think this kind of work is more suitable for me."
Of course Ke Lan would not tell her that he wanted to investigate things related to the Alpha civilization and that "God", but the Undead Crew had already told him clearly: the more he knew, the more dangerous the situation would be.
The Holy Word is not without a price. In terms of the degree of "corrosion", Ke Lan is the most seriously damaged among the existing members of the Undead Crew...no one else.
Aphrodite even said this - "In your current condition, you may become like the last Chiron at any time."
It took Ke Lan at least a day to get the rotting mountain of flesh out of his mind... Before he could confirm the authenticity , he had no choice but to compromise.
"According to the intelligence we have collected, there are a total of six companies that have purchased spoils of the ruins in the past period of time - 'Red Track Trading Company', 'Grips Recycling Company', 'TR Recycling Company', 'New Star Chamber of Commerce', 'Shuttle Material Trading' and 'Shuttle Relics Office'... The last three companies belong to an organization called 'Tower of Babel'."
"The Tower of Babel?"
Ke Lan was not unfamiliar with the name. The name Tower of Babel came from the religious book "The Old Testament of the Bible" in the old era. It described that humans built a tower that reached the sky in ancient Babylon in order to reach heaven... But when God knew about this, he first felt offended, and then was surprised at the power that humans could exert when they united as one... This power made God uneasy, so God decided to change the language of humans so that humans from different regions could not communicate.
As a result, all kinds of conflicts and chaos began to break out among people who did not speak the same language, and the construction of the Tower of Babel was forced to be stopped for this reason.
But on Alpha Planet, there is also a relic named "Tower of Babel".
"Relic B-081 'Tower of Babel'."
The reason why it is called the "Tower of Babel" is because this relic is a true "Tower to the Sky".
This is a space orbit accelerator built by the Alpha civilization, also known as the "space elevator." The height of this relic extends all the way outside the atmosphere of Alpha. With the help of this accelerator, the Alpha civilization can send spacecraft and various materials into the low-Earth orbit of Alpha with minimal consumption. Its convenience is almost the same as the subways that can be seen everywhere on Earth in the old era.
However, when the Ark discovered Alpha, this "space elevator" had already been destroyed , leaving only half of the base about ten kilometers high, standing on the equator of Alpha.
The ruins No. B-081 "Tower of Babel" has always been well-known in the hunter circle, and the reason is very simple - this relic is very "fat".
Before the disappearance of the Alpha civilization, it seemed that there was a large-scale space migration plan, but this plan had not yet been implemented, or was only halfway implemented, and the entire civilization mysteriously disappeared from the planet. In this space elevator, there are still a large number of Alpha spacecraft that have not been launched, as well as a large amount of reserve resources.
According to the Alpha who stayed in the "Engine 92 Wreckage ", the main reason for the disappearance of the Alpha civilization was the "paradox". Except for those Alphas who disappeared due to the "paradox", most of the survivors left the planet.
This "space elevator" is obviously the starting point of the journey for these Alpha people who have left their homes.
Ke Lan had also participated in an exploration mission of the "Tower of Babel", but when he participated in this mission, the treasures in the Tower of Babel had been almost emptied by the relic hunters who had got there first in the previous decades. Their exploration mission was more like hard labor than exploration.
Things that were easy to take away had already been taken away, and the only things left were the large aircraft parked in the warehouse or on the track. The delicate and small equipment in these aircraft had almost been dismantled by then, leaving only the empty shells of the hulls... Ke Lan and his team's job was to cut the hulls piece by piece and then transport them back to the Ark via transport ships.
The actual reward for that exploration mission was pitifully low - if exploring Class B ruins could not quickly improve his hunter qualifications, Ke Lan would not have chosen this mission at all.
"This organization called 'Tower of Babel' was founded in the year 909 of the New Era. The founders were a group of independent hunters who formed a temporary team." Aya paused and said, "In this respect, it is quite similar to your God Hunter Group."
“I didn’t see that…”
"The reason why their organization is called 'Tower of Babel' is because this group of independent hunters were the first to enter the B-081 ruins 'Tower of Babel' to explore. As a ruins hunter, you should know what this means." Aya continued.
"I know, a group of lucky and enviable guys... A Class B ruins with almost no danger and extremely rich. This is the place every ruins hunter dreams of going." Ke Lan took over the conversation.
"Through the exploration of the Tower of Babel, this group of independent hunters made a lot of money. Their subsequent development was different from yours." Aya said, "This group of independent hunters did not register a hunting group. Instead, they decided to retire and no longer risk their lives to explore the ruins. Instead, they relied on this generous start-up capital to start a business of purchasing and reselling the spoils of the ruins."
"It's a very normal development." Ke Lan nodded. "If they can make money comfortably, most people won't choose to risk their lives. Besides, the death rate of relic hunters in those days was much higher than it is now."
"This group of former independent hunters quickly made more money with the experience and sharp vision they had accumulated during their exploration... and began to enter other industries." Aya took a deep breath, "including... the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry."
"Then this organization is highly suspicious. The procurement of raw materials, production of preparations...it's almost a one-stop industry." Ke Lan nodded.
"Yes, there are only two pharmaceutical companies and a chemical plant in this economic development zone. The production lines of these three companies are all here... and the owners behind them are all 'Babel Tower'." Aya analyzed, "So, I suggest that we give priority to investigating this 'Babel Tower'."
