Volume 1 Glacial Relics Chapter 38 "Interrogation Process"
"Of course, you can also choose to remain silent, but there are two things I need to tell you in advance." The investigator reached into the inside pocket of his suit.
"First, I have the right to torture you. The law prohibiting the use of violence to extract confessions does not apply to DAS."
He pulled out a pocket pistol.
"Second, before you leave the plane, my personal authority includes--"
He pulled the slide of the pistol, and with the crisp sound of the metal spring and the locking structure colliding, a bullet was pushed into the chamber. Then, he slowly released the safety with his thumb, and the firing pin, which was ready to fire, had removed the last layer of obstruction.
"Disposal of individuals that may be at risk of contamination is made without reporting."
He pointed the gun at Ivan.
"Wait!" Ke Lan rushed towards the investigator, but the other party had already pulled the trigger!
“Bang!!”
“Sizzle—”
Along with the gunshot, there was also a strong sound of electric current bursting. The investigator's other hand took out a stun gun from somewhere and stabbed Ke Lan in the waist.
A strong electric current instantly spread throughout his body, and the next second Ke Lan was thrown out and hit the cabin wall heavily.
"You care about your teammates a lot, don't you?" The investigator put away his gun and stun gun jokingly. Ke Lan turned around and saw that Ivan was not shot, but there were some black marks of burns on his clothes.
"The gun is loaded with blanks." The Hound whispered through gritted teeth. He and Layton had already planned to take action. Fortunately, they were sitting a little far away from the investigator and did not have time to rush forward, thus avoiding the pain of being electrocuted.
"It was just a joke, a slightly... slightly 'malicious' joke." The investigator shrugged.
He is still smiling.
The hound's eyes were full of disdain: "Threat, huh? That's just what you like to play, and that's all you can do."
"This shot was a blank. I ca n't work." The investigator shook his head and reached out to pull up the still twitching Ke Lan. "The lives of the three of them, and your own little secret... You make your choice."
That little secret? Ke Lan held down her still shaking legs with some difficulty and glanced at the other person tentatively.
How much information do these people have?
What are the “little secrets” he mentioned?
"Are you so stubborn? How about trying a stronger current? But it would be ugly if you become incontinent."
"...Okay, I'll tell you." Ke Lan raised her head and said in a very earnest tone, "But before that, I have another request. I wonder if I can..."
"What request?" The investigator looked at him with some confusion, but unexpectedly Ke Lan suddenly jumped up and hit him on the nose with a headbutt!
"Then I'm going to beat you up! You bastard! Don't think I don't have a temper!" Ke Lan growled and kicked the investigator in the chest again.
"you--"
"What do you mean by 'you'?" Another quick, fierce and accurate hook punch left the investigator's face covered in blood.
"I can answer your questions, but you have to let me beat you up first. Only when I feel better can I remember them!" As he said that, Ke Lan simply rode on the investigator's body and kept swinging his fists down.
He seemed to be crazy, and even the hound and others beside him were stunned.
"Aren't you afraid that I will kill your companions?" The investigator desperately protected his face with his hands and squeezed out these words with some reluctance.
"Then I'll break your hand first!"
Ke Lan seemed crazy, but he actually knew very well in his heart... This method seemed reckless, but it was actually the best way to break the current situation.
He was sure that the other party didn't dare to kill him. He had come this far, but the investigator was still threatening him with Hound and others instead of directly saying "Believe it or not, I will kill you", which meant that this guy did not have the authority to kill him.
As of now, one's life safety can be guaranteed for the time being.
"It feels great to electrocute people, right? How about this?" Ke Lan pulled the investigator's arm away and punched him hard in the eye socket.
He was betting that the more secrets DAS knew about him, the less likely they would dare to act rashly. Even if he beat the investigator to death, the senior officials hiding behind the scenes would not do anything to him.
And if they only knew those superficial things, then they might be severely punished - attacking DAS investigators. This crime was enough to bring Ke Lan more than half a year in prison, plus a fine of hundreds of thousands of credit points. But in this way, at least he would not be sent to the laboratory for research.
In short, after he beat up the investigator, based on the attitude of the DAS, he could basically guess the amount of information the other party had. As long as those key secrets were not discovered, the other things were still within the scope of explanation.
It would be even better if DAS could characterize himself as an "impulsive, simple-minded, and unsophisticated" person because of this "violent behavior."
Of course, the most important point is that this guy really deserves a beating.

“We’re here. We’re finally here.”
After a long sixteen hours, the transport plane finally arrived at the human base on Alpha Star - the interstellar colony spaceship "Noah's Ark".
This is a conical metal disk with a diameter of more than 400 kilometers, large enough to accommodate 55 million people. In order to build it, humans almost emptied the resources of the entire solar system - even so, when Noah's Ark set sail, it was still a semi-finished product. During this 950-year voyage, people were looking for suitable habitats while constantly mining resources from the planets they passed by to repair and improve this super spaceship.
The landing point of Noah's Ark is located above the equator of Alpha. It is an extremely vast plain with abundant sunshine, rich mineral resources, and stable geological structure. It is neither a frequent area of various natural disasters nor within the activity range of those large indigenous creatures. It can be said to be the safest place on the entire Alpha.
Unlike Earth, Alpha's surface is 85% land, and the land masses of the entire planet are connected together. There are only two oceans, one located 6,700 kilometers northeast of Noah's Ark, with an area of about 80 million square kilometers. The other is located at the South Pole, with an area of only about one-sixth of the former.
The transport plane passed safety certification, passed through the air defense line composed of an entire fleet, and landed on an aerial platform.
The Ark's high-rise buildings are over 20,000 meters high , which is more than twice the height of Mount Everest, the highest peak on Earth. Its upper part is almost entirely in the clouds. Looking down, one can only vaguely see the exterior buildings that look like a steel forest.
Every time Ke Lan looked down at this scene from the air, he couldn't help but admire this miraculous project - someone once described the Ark like this: it is not a spaceship, but a metropolis that can travel between the stars.
…
"What are you going to do with this guy?" The Hound pointed at the investigator who was thrown into the corner of the cabin and almost beaten beyond recognition. This unlucky guy was beaten by Ke Lan for a full hour, and no one knew how many bones were broken in his body. He could not even stand up.
"It's none of my business. He's neither dead nor disabled. Didn't DAS buy him medical insurance?" Ke Lan said, kicking the investigator in the crotch again.
"No... I mean, haven't you offended DAS? Although according to the law, you will be imprisoned for a year or two at most, but if they play dirty tricks, what will you do?" The Hound was a little worried.
