Volume 1: First Arrival Chapter 89 Weak Evidence
Adrian only felt a dull pain in his temple, and the surging roar was like a water pump hammering continuously on his eardrum.
Grabbing the bottle of wine on the table and drinking it all in one gulp, Adrian managed to regain some composure. He looked at Kirk with wide eyes, his eyes full of surprise.
"You mean , this young man targeted four people at the soup kitchen, and then targeted another three people when distributing free food at his workplace. He used his charity to commit serial murders?"
"Kirk, Jesus Christ, do you hear your own words?"
"No, you certainly didn't hear it, no no no, otherwise you would know how ridiculous and absurd this is."
"Sir, we are looking for a cold-blooded serial killer, or an extreme racist, or a sociopath. We can call him a lunatic or a pervert or something else, but definitely not a damn broken-winged angel."
As he was talking, Adrian himself found it funny and couldn't help but laugh out loud.
Unexpectedly, Kirk was not nervous or panicked, but laughed along with Adrian.
Kirk, "Detective Adrian, have you ever seen 'The Truman Show'?"
Adrian, "Jesus Christ, what classic movies are you going to tell me about? Shut up, I'm not interested in those humming and humming movie arts."
"In the movie, a group of TV guys kept a child in a studio and broadcast the whole thing live. Everything was fictional, including his family, his friends, and his wife. They were all actors and scripts, and it was broadcast to the world, but the protagonist of the show, Truman, was the only one who didn't know about it."
"...Shit." Adrian couldn't help but curse, "You mean, it's like a 'reality show'."
"Yes, but only the protagonist doesn't know that all this is fake. For Truman, his life and his world are real."
“That’s so perverted!”
Kirk's mouth curled up slightly. "To be precise, the world is the same now. Perhaps, we are living in Truman's world."
Adrian was stunned. "Man, I almost lost my bladder."
“Haha.” Kirk burst out laughing. “What I mean is, if everything is too perfect, it’s not real enough. It’s like writing a script with all the rules and regulations in place. We can design and lay out the script carefully, but real life is often full of surprises and countless shit.”
Adrian bared his teeth. "You mean, like us now? Just fell into the pit, and then the drain opened again?"
Kirk spread his hands and smiled, "Welcome to the real world."
Adrian raised his middle finger.
"In short, I believe that there are angels with broken wings in real life, but the point is that angels with broken wings are not perfect either."
"..." Adrian let out a long breath, "Big Mac, give me another bottle of Budweiser. So, what did you find?"
Kirk tapped the list of volunteers with his finger, "Detective Adrian, you didn't read it carefully."
Adrian looked hopeless, "Just tell me the answer. My head is already full of garbage and I can't fit any more."
This time, Kirk didn't keep it a secret.
“Look, the senator was at these soup kitchens, and Wallace showed up on all of these dates.”
"February 24th, the Bronx."
"Afterwards, Chris Adams was murdered at Hangs Point, and his body was not found until five days later. During this time, Isaiah Robinson's body was first found at Wave Hill, but according to the forensic inference, his time of death should be two days later than Chris Adams."
"March 3, Queen."
"Afterwards, Felicia Sands' body was found in Flushing, and Marlene Grove died in Juniper Valley. The two deaths were probably three days apart."
"March 11th, Brooklyn."
"The bodies of Clark Pierce were subsequently found at the Bedford Community Centre, Dennis Curtis at Maria Hernandez Park and Seth Johnson at McGolrick Gardens."
"Until now, there have been no victims with the same modus operandi in Manhattan."
"But the point is that after the Times exposed this incident, all eyes were on it at once, which might have alerted the senator to the incident. So, although Wallace also participated in the activities after the senator came to Manhattan, no one died. I guess he might have been observing."
After sorting out the entire timeline, the thread suddenly became clear——
The matter is indeed closely related to the senator's itinerary.
Once , it might be an accident; twice, it might be a coincidence; but three times?
There must be an inevitable connection.
They have been trying to sort out the context of the case, but have never been able to understand the pattern of the crime. From the Bronx to Queens and then to Brooklyn; and it was a large-scale move across a short period of time. This is not whack-a-mole. What kind of fantastic crime route is this?
But now, maybe, possibly, probably... something .
Adrian fell into deep thought. Even though Kirk's words were very convincing and attractive, he needed to stay rational, otherwise he would be lost.
"No."
Adrian shook his head.
"No! The evidence is too far-fetched and too weak."
"Let's assume that your inference is correct and the whole case is closely related to the senator's trip, but why is it this Wallace guy?"
“Aren’t members of the Senate team more persuasive?”
"They are a group of discriminatory and prejudiced people. Not to mention black people, they even make fun of me with their Irish accents when they see me."
The more he spoke, the more certain he became, and Adrian waved his hands repeatedly.
"Come, I'll give you a more reliable inference."
"A madman appeared in the senator's team. He disliked these homeless people and discriminated against black people, so he started killing people."
"Later, someone in the team discovered this, and even the senator himself noticed it, so they began to put pressure on the Special Investigations Division, demanding that Gallagher suppress the matter and stop us from handling the case. However, they did not expect you to appear as a variable, and suddenly, the matter was exposed."
"That's why you've become a thorn in my side."
"Now, they need to start cleaning up the mess. On the one hand, they deal with the parties involved internally, on the other hand, they use the tactic of 'delay' to mislead and delay my investigation, and at the same time, they use the media to show their great and glorious side. Maybe they have already written the script in advance for the moment when the truth of justice is revealed."
"look."
"My inference is more reasonable, even taking political factors into consideration."
With a crackling sound, Adrian's thoughts were completely cleared up, and he shook his head again, denying Kirk's speculation.
Looking at Adrian, who was full of disgust and powerlessness to complain, Kirk's smile rose slightly. He did not argue, but slowly picked up the Budweiser in front of him.
There was no tit-for-tat or banging the wall in retaliation. Instead, Adrian felt a little uncomfortable and glared at Kirk fiercely, "What!"
Kirk shrugged slightly, "No, there's a piece of the puzzle missing."
"Only four people were found with yellow ribbons, and there were only four of them in the photos and videos. There was no way to contact the other three people."
"but……"
