Volume 1: First Arrival Chapter 68: Breaking up the couple
"Haven't you heard the rumors about Kirk? This isn't the first time, apparently."
Jason threw out a sentence lightly, and then he could feel the busy gazes cast towards him, full of desire for knowledge, like a group of hungry baby birds.
Jason raised his chin slightly, revealing a mysterious expression, just like the afternoon tea gossip time of the ladies on Manhattan's Upper East Side.
"Callum, let me tell you, a long, long, long, long time ago..."
Jason recalled the past with the expression of a great monk, but Callum had to interrupt him.
"How long ago? Kirk doesn't seem that old."
"..." Jason, frowning, cleared his throat, "Well, it wasn't that long ago."
"Originally, Kirk was investigating a case of normal death from cancer."
"The police have received the case and have followed all normal procedures to investigate, including an autopsy, but have not found anything abnormal. However, the son of the deceased still insists that there is something fishy about his mother's death."
"The police were unable to investigate further, so the child found Kirk."
"When the case was already concluded, he worked on it alone for a while and actually found an abnormality in the cause of death. Not only was there irrefutable evidence, it proved that the deceased did not die of natural causes, but died prematurely after being injected with morphine."
"Moreover, a large number of them were pulled out at once, similar to the clumps of hair in the bathroom drain. Later it was discovered that this serial killer, who had never been discovered, had killed four people without anyone noticing, acting as the angel of death, randomly selecting terminally ill patients and ending their lives prematurely."
"Of course, that's very, very horrific, but the truth is, that's not the point."
"After the truth of this case came to light, Kirk handed the case over to the FBI, who continued to investigate. They speculated that the murderer might not only be in New York, but also in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, using the same method to commit murders. It was a long list."
"The real point is that during the investigation, Kirk accidentally discovered that the wife of a sheriff from the 62nd Precinct was suspected of having a relationship with the victim's husband."
shock!
The first half was horrifying enough. Callum and the others had their jaws dislocated and were thinking about how to express their shock. Unexpectedly, the twists and turns in the second half were even more shocking. This complicated and confusing thing actually happened in real life?
Jason was very, very satisfied with the effect he created, and there was a hint of pride in his expression.
"Whether the sheriff concealed evidence or changed the direction of the investigation because of his wife's relationship during the investigation, there is no definite evidence to prove it, but later the news spread like wildfire, causing the sheriff to become a laughing stock in the 62nd Precinct."
"You know those inside jokes, they get distorted the more they're passed around."
"Afterwards, everyone said with certainty that the sheriff was in fact 'not good enough', and everyone spoke with such certainty as if they had seen it with their own eyes."
“No wonder he later became a legend in the police station.”
stay!
The 62nd Precinct is in Brooklyn, and the 14th Precinct has also heard more or less about the rumors about the sheriff, but they just treated them as a topic of conversation and a joke. However, they did not expect that the rumor was just one of the collateral damage, and there was a shocking bomb hidden behind it.
"Now, the sheriff is really interested in Kirk. Rumor has it that if Kirk goes to Brooklyn and is encountered by the sheriff, he will definitely be stopped. No matter if there is anything wrong, the sheriff will want to find trouble, and no one in the 62nd Precinct will stop him."
"after all……"
Having said this, Jason shrugged lightly and did not say anything else. However, his meaningful expression immediately made the men nod slightly, indicating that they understood.
Callum was stunned. He and Kirk had known each other for a while, but he never knew that his neighbor was such a legendary character.
Thinking carefully about what just happened at the Plaza Hotel, it was indeed... incredible.
When Kirk reappeared, Callum looked at him carefully with curiosity on his face.
That look made Kirk's head full of question marks. He looked himself up and down, "What's wrong? Is your trouser zipper unzipped?"
Callum shook his head blankly, the words were on the tip of his tongue but he swallowed them and finally held them back.
Jason, on the other hand, was laughing and joking. He bumped Kirk with his shoulder and said, "Are you going to share your experience today with us?"
Kirk's mouth curled up slightly, "Callum is right here, you can take him to the interrogation room to talk slowly."
Noticing Callum's eyes full of curiosity and admiration, Kirk looked at Callum carefully again:
First there was surprise and shock, then confusion, and finally enlightenment. Those thoughts were answered as soon as they went around in my mind, without even needing Kirk's answer or explanation.
Kirk understood immediately and glanced at Jason out of the corner of his eye. "Are you exaggerating those old stories to brag to ignorant children again?"
Jason's eyes widened, "How did you know?"
Kirk ignored Jason's threats and looked at Callum. "Don't believe this guy. Jason is a liar. All his talk is nonsense. If he doesn't become a policeman, I think he would be a perfect candidate to write scripts in Hollywood. No matter how bizarre it is, every script he writes will definitely sell well."
Keep a low profile, keep a low profile——
Kirk knows that he is no longer the same Kirk. Kirk also knows that his five senses are sharp and his intuition is accurate. Maybe he doesn't need to be sliced and studied yet, but he still needs to keep a low profile.
But Jason wasn't so easily fooled, "If you're not a prophet, how do you know what Callum and I just said?"
"Or did you put a nano-eavesdropping device under Callum's skin?"
Kirk raised his eyebrows slightly towards Callum, "Look, a Hollywood screenwriter."
Puff.
Callum finally came to his senses and couldn't help laughing out loud.
Kirk nodded to Callum and said, "I'm going to go back now. How about you? Will you continue patrolling? I hope you don't run into similar situations again."
Callum, "If you encounter a similar situation, it's just right. We can let you show your skills."
Kirk waved his hands repeatedly, "No, no, no, my fee is too expensive, you NYPD can't afford it."
The two of them chatted and laughed as they left the 14th Precinct again. Callum's patrol for the day was not over yet.
Over there——
Jason stood there, lost in thought, "If Kirk wasn't eavesdropping, how did he know what I said to Callum? This doesn't make sense."
Diagonally opposite, Kevin seemed to be standing in front of a bottomless abyss. He looked at the desk that was so close at hand, but was hesitant to take the last step.
Kevin is constantly building up his mental strength:
Anyway, Derek wasn't here, and Derek didn't like donuts, so even if he took them, Derek wouldn't know; but the demon deep in his heart kept whispering, Derek knew it, Derek knew everything, and the repeated words dragged him into the dark abyss.
"you can."
"No, you can't."
"you can."
The angels and the demons were playing tug-of-war, and then, out of the corner of his eye, Kevin caught a glimpse of a figure crossing the invisible chasm in front of him.
Jason was lost in his own thoughts, muttering to himself, and he grabbed the last donut and stuffed it into his mouth.
"……No!"
