Volume 1: First Arrival Chapter 066: Loud Drums and Gongs
“Roar, roar, roar!”
"Callum! Callum! Callum!"
Slowly, slowly, the shouts and clapping sounds finally gathered together, and finally condensed into a force, circling and detonating in the 14th Precinct.
There were sounds of knocking on the table, ghostly shouts mixed with whistles and cheers, and strange monsters that kept turning like whips. The sight was full of a bustling scene, and it was really overwhelming.
The next second, Jason rushed up with an excited look on his face.
"Wow."
"I mean, wow!"
" We have just heard that you are like a magician, you snap your fingers, and then the rabbit comes out of the hat and the victim's body is found."
"But how did you do it? They are still some distance away and have not been able to watch from the front line. Come on, tell us."
"They said you played a game of chase in the Plaza Hotel? The suspect was led by you, is that right?"
Crackling!
Jason didn't even take a breath, but kept talking in one go. His explosive words were like a summer rainstorm, pouring down on Kirk's face.
So much so that Callum and Kirk both paused.
Callum could also feel the heat of joy. Behind Jason there was a group of people banging on the table and making a noise. The whole police station was filled with laughter and noise. The excitement was awakened again and he became uncontrollably excited. After all, the experience just now was indeed rare.
But when he turned around, Callum saw Kirk with an obedient face, as if the protagonist who had just performed so well in the Plaza Hotel was someone else. After noticing Callum's gaze, Kirk also followed Jason, following his example, constantly waving his arms and shouting, and blowing slogans to Callum.
That posture made it seem as if Callum was the biggest contributor to solving the Plaza Hotel case.
Callum was caught off guard: ???
Things don't seem to be right, right?
However, before Callum could open his mouth to explain, a figure next to him pushed Jason aside and came out, holding a cup of coffee in his hand. He turned slightly and said seriously.
"That's not in accordance with the rules, Westwood, and you know it."
"You shouldn't be taking matters into your own hands and you shouldn't be questioning witnesses at the scene."
Jason spread his hands, not trying to hide his disappointment and irritation.
"Come on, Helen, you're already making a preconceived judgment that this isn't in compliance before you've even heard the context of the situation? Please read the mood of the room, okay?"
Helen Bates, with her long hair neatly braided into dreadlocks and then tied into a bun with a rubber band, had a slightly plump pear-shaped figure that made her steps a little slow, but this still did not affect her actions to come and disrupt the party.
But obviously, this is not the first time or the second time, and people have long been accustomed to it.
A middle-aged man with a sloppy and messy beard staggered past. If it weren't for his wrinkled and dirty uniform, one would have thought he was a homeless person who had wandered into the police station. His eyes looked like he was still asleep and couldn't open. He didn't look at Helen or Kirk, but complained leisurely.
"What are the regulations for? Can you eat them?"
Derek Cain still had the familiar smell of alcohol on him. Even if he was just passing by, the pungent smell of alcohol would make people frown.
Helen immediately got angry, "Kane, you are not going to go out on patrol in this state?"
As Derek spoke, he ignored Helen and continued to stagger forward. Helen followed him like a mother duck, swaying her hips, with a worried look on her face and couldn't stop chattering.
In fact, they all knew that Helen's nagging had no effect on Derek, but the kind-hearted Helen just couldn't control herself and habitually...meddled herself.
Seeing that Derek's situation was becoming more difficult, Helen temporarily left Kirk and Callum behind and followed.
After all the back and forth, Callum and the others ended up becoming spectators, watching Helen and Derek leave.
Cough cough.
Jason realized that his focus had been completely diverted. He coughed twice, brought his attention back, and locked his eyes on Kirk and Callum in front of him. Unable to hide his curiosity, he started rapping on the spot, and the foam flying around was as busy as a machine gun.
"So, what's going on?"
"The news they sent back was mysterious but vague."
"One moment they say Callum is Bruce Lee, the next moment they say Kirk is Tom Cruise."
"God, why don't they say you're Eli Manning? I like The Rock more to be honest, but obviously neither of you are WWE guys, so how the hell do you do that?"
"Ah, ah, ah, I'm so curious."
All in one go, without taking a breath.
Kirk's eyes were full of surprise. It was much better than the rap in the morning. Maybe Jason was more suitable for storytelling. A smile rose slightly at the corner of his mouth.
"curious?"
"That's not necessary. I believe that the things you encounter during your daily patrols are much more miraculous than this."
"Man, New York is a city full of wonder and magic. Who knows? You're on patrol this afternoon, and then you're dragging a giant safe along Fifth Avenue chasing a desperado. Next month, Hollywood will invite you to adapt your story for the big screen."
"At that point, you'll have to decide whether Michael-B. Jordan or Chadwick Boseman will play Jason Girard."
Halfway through his words, Kirk noticed that Callum was constantly signaling with his eyes and mouth, as if he was worried that Kirk might step on a landmine.
Although Kirk and Callum were very familiar with each other, the eye contact was far from enough. What really made Kirk curious was:
Why do some people think that eye contact can convey information?
So the conversation continued without pause.
Jason's expression was slightly awkward, but he still laughed because of Kirk's words, although it didn't last long before the corners of his mouth calmed down again.
Jason hesitated for a moment, then explained, "A few months ago, I had an appendectomy and was bedridden for a while, so I've been recuperating and not out on patrol. I'm mostly responsible for paperwork. Callum, I can also help you with the paperwork for your case if you need it."
appendicitis?
It is now 2012. If a patient undergoes minimally invasive appendectomy surgery, he or she can be discharged from the hospital in three to five days. Even if he or she needs to rest, it does not take too long.
Also, Jason looked so healthy and so fit.
But Kirk didn't ask, because he knew there must be other reasons behind it. Since Jason didn't want to say, he didn't ask any more questions.
It seems that what Callum just tried to remind Kirk was not to poke at scars.
Having said that, compared to clerical work, many people prefer patrolling. Many employees in the police station are the type who have never liked reading since childhood. In their eyes, pre-case clerical work is simply a torture. If Jason is willing to change shifts, they will be very happy to help with patrol duty.
"Your loss." Kirk did not apologize awkwardly, but said generously, "Then it is my turn to consider whether Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt should play me."
This one sentence eased Jason's embarrassment. A smile crept back onto the corners of his mouth, and he couldn't help but joke again, "You should know that those legends are either disabled or dead, right?"
