Volume 1: First Arrival Chapter 064 Performance Failure
When Kirk and Callum arrived at the 14th Precinct, they had two more boxes of donuts in their hands.
The two of them stood in the elevator, and Callum was a little worried. "Should we avoid Kevin? He really needs to control his intake of sweets, otherwise I'm worried that his blood vessels might be blocked."
Kirk glanced at Callum, a smile appeared between his eyebrows, "Have you forgotten Kevin's classic quote?"
Callum was slightly stunned, then he remembered and couldn't help but laugh along.
Ding!
The elevator door slowly opened, but——
It was quiet.
There was no Jason-Gerald bluster, no hustle and bustle of people coming and going, no clamor of trivial matters colliding with each other...
Obviously, this was not the 14th Precinct that Kirk was familiar with. The unbelievable silence revealed an eerie feeling, comparable to the doll house in a horror movie, where a group of soulless dolls suddenly came to life, making it even more terrifying.
Confused and somewhat worried, Callum took a cautious step forward, away from the movie, and could then observe a scene of orderly and focused work.
At a glance, you can see Jason sitting in the office, typing intently on the keyboard, with a box on his left hand side filled with a thick stack of documents.
It says, "Busy..."
The same was true for the other police officers.
Some were busy at their desks, some occasionally stood up to discuss trivial matters with other colleagues, and some were communicating on the phone. All of them had focused and serious expressions, showing a very professional and dedicated attitude. They were not messy at all and did not look like the 14th Precinct at all.
Did they just take the wrong turn and enter a rabbit hole? And then, just like Alice in Wonderland, the Mad Hatter would appear in the next second?
Wait, what about Kevin Corenswet?
There was no sign of Kevin at all, which made Callum full of surprise.
Apart from the bathroom and the pantry, nothing could make Kevin leave his comfortable chair. They even saw with their own eyes the magical sight of Kevin sitting on the chair and pushing the wheels all the way to the bathroom, which made people suspect that there was strong glue between him and the chair.
As far as Callum could remember, he had never seen Kevin stand up except after get off work.
But what about Kevin?
The chair piled with cushions and pillows was left alone in front of the desk, and it actually looked a bit lonely.
Callum's head was full of question marks.
Originally, Callum had some small expectations——
This was the first time that he had completed the investigation and solution of a case during patrol, and it was a solo patrol. In his not-so-long resume, it was a highlight of the first time.
In the past, I always saw the police station laughing and joking. Even if they were just solving some small cases, their colleagues would not hesitate to applaud and whistle, and would even prepare cakes or go to the bar to celebrate.
Overall, the police station mainly deals with cases related to disturbing public order on a daily basis. There are not many opportunities to drive after fugitives, let alone murder.
Moreover, there are occasional cases of death or even murder. Real life is different from TV and movies. It often takes a while to solve a case. Three months or six months is normal. What's worse is that a large number of cases cannot be solved and become unsolved cases.
Therefore, there is a Cold Case Division under the Investigation Bureau, which is specifically responsible for investigating cases that have not been solved for more than six years.
but now!
A false report that seemed like a prank eventually turned into a real murder case. Callum not only completed his patrol job, but also successfully arrested the suspect and announced the case was closed. Even the crime scene officer was amazed. Today he finally got a taste of what it feels like to be a policeman.
The result, that’s it?
in Apple pie order.
Very busy.
Originally, it should be a daily scene of white-collar work, but it appeared in the 14th Precinct, which seemed very strange.
There was no celebration or activity, which was fine. Although Callum felt a little disappointed, he was not sad. However, what was going on with the scene before him?
This was definitely not the 14th Precinct he was familiar with, and his hairs on his body couldn't help but stand up.
Could it be... possessed by evil spirits?
Callum slowly turned his head and looked at Kirk in confusion, asking with his eyes: Did you see anything dirty?
Kirk actually nodded.
"Cough," Callum almost choked on his own saliva.
Kirk was confused: He saw Kevin, was there any need to be so surprised?
Kirk raised his eyebrows slightly and glanced at the mobile whiteboard in the corner. His sturdy and clumsy body was hidden behind it, trying to secretly observe what was happening from the gap below. His constantly moving eyes and curled up body made it clear that he was trying to cover up his mistake.
You don't need to look closely to imagine Kevin's embarrassed look with sweat and red face. The polar bear obviously used the wrong method to hide in the jungle.
A 265-pound (120-kilogram) man who tries his best to hunch his shoulders is still a man.
Moreover, the cautious action was obviously not suitable for him. His timid posture revealed that something was wrong with his whole body. Without paying special attention, one could feel that an elephant was trying to escape from the sight.
He has the iconic "Contra" hairstyle, which makes him look like he has a small potted plant on his head . His body curled up in the corner looks clumsy and funny, and even if you can't see his expression, you can feel that he looks pitiful.
So, are you sure there is no problem?
Pranks require naturalness, just like undercover work; if they are too deliberate, too outrageous, or too ostentatious, they will easily be exposed.
This is what is happening right before our eyes.
Every detail reveals traces of acting. Jason's fingers, which were concentrating on tapping his shoulders, were probably just hitting them randomly, no different from drunk driving. The lines of his shoulders and face were completely tense, and he tried his best to suppress his eyes from secretly looking at him and not getting too excited.
The black man with muscular body and SpongeBob SquarePants-style short hair, neatly dressed and obedient, had the word "awkward" clearly written on his handsome face. And it was capitalized and bold, as if afraid that Kirk would not notice anything unusual. Every cell in his body was shouting "cat, cat, cat, cat."
Stiff, clumsy, and exaggerated.
What's even more terrifying is that Jason and Kevin are not alone, and no one in the police station within sight is an exception.
The image of the super-bad movie "The Room" automatically comes to mind - not the kidnapping movie that won the Best Actress Oscar.
Obviously, the 14th Precinct is not suitable to be a party planner. Their poor minds lack creativity in this area, and the parties/pranks reveal a sense of crudeness. The scene before them is really... horrible.
So, was this an epic embarrassment?
But think about it from another angle. It is not easy to see such a scene at ordinary times. Even if such a terrible and terrible disaster scene is deliberately created, it may not be possible. Now I am lucky enough to witness it with my own eyes.
Worth applause.
