Volume 1: First Arrival Chapter 031: Effortless
Callum: ???
Kirk could sense the gaze of the big golden retriever, and when Anna and the others were not paying attention, he gave Callum a look and made a downward gesture, indicating him to stay calm.
Facing rebellious teenagers in puberty is like bullfighting. Using brute force will only backfire. It requires a little patience, a little skill and a little wisdom, and the most important thing is to smooth their fur.
After calming Callum down a bit, Kirk continued speaking slowly.
"But...is it really that simple?"
A question is like a stone thrown into a calm lake, causing ripples to appear.
Anna raised her head sensitively and turned on her stubborn bullfighting mode again, "What do you mean?"
Sure enough, adolescent children are like firecrackers that explode at the slightest touch.
Kirk raised his hands in surrender, his face full of innocence, "You shouldn't be asking me, you should be asking the person involved. He thanked you for your towel, borrowed your notes, and looked for you in the crowd during the game, but he still hasn't invited you on a date, let alone to the prom."
"You should ask what he means."
With just a few simple words, Kirk didn't even need to discredit the boy. The three girls' thoughts had already fermented and spread.
Their imagination is much richer than that of adults.
Seeing this, Callum felt angry and distressed.
On the one hand, he wanted to comfort his sister, as he thought the boy was definitely not worthy of her; but on the other hand, he wanted to warn his sister not to easily trust those teenage boys whose brains are dominated by hormones.
For a moment, Callum was anxious and wanted to speak.
As a result, Callum felt the force coming from his shoulder, and when he turned around, he could see Kirk's eyes signaling him to shut up. Callum was a little anxious but finally closed his mouth, with the word depressed clearly written on his face.
"Anna, maybe he has his own difficulties."
"You know, a quarterback who is afraid that people will see through his muscles and see that he is just a boring soul is definitely not worthy of you who is both good in character and academics, just like a knight looking at a princess."
The light words were tinged with humor and teasing, and the simple words were full of romance, so that the expressions of the three girls brightened.
"Maybe he didn't mean anything at all."
"He just likes the cheerleader, and the biology class notes are just for temporary help because his GPA may not be enough to get into college."
With a twist, another possibility slowly unfolded before their eyes. Even though Anna wanted to refute it, the three girls had no way to deny it.
"Most importantly, if those monkeys in the school find out that you have prepared your dress early, one or two of them will start to make a fuss. No matter whether the quarterback wants to invite you or not, he may retreat in the face of these fussing eyes, and a relationship that has not even had time to develop will die just like that."
As soon as the voice fell, a girl secretly pulled Anna's right hand and whispered in her ear in a low voice, "He is right, isn't Chuck Bass and Blair Waldorf like this?"
Why do these two names sound familiar?
But Kirk didn't bother to distinguish them because that wasn't the point.
Anyway, those things about high school, youth, and rebellion are always the same over and over again, and they are still the same across time, culture, and region.
The point is that after the foreshadowing, the three girls' thoughts have completely fallen into Kirk's rhythm. Now they are thinking completely according to Kirk's ideas. If Kirk says that the boy actually likes Anna's good friend, they will probably believe it.
“Anna.”
Kirk called out.
Anna suddenly raised her head and looked at Kirk, her eyes filled with confusion and loss, her ups and downs of emotions not concealed at all.
It can be seen at this point that Anna is a beauty.
A pair of bright eyes hidden behind black-framed glasses cannot conceal the spirituality between her brows. The long light brown hair casually scattered on her shoulders brings out a bit of clean purity and warmth. The fragility stained by sadness makes her temperament even more mysterious.
It would make sense if the quarterback boy really liked Anna.
"Do you just want to go to prom, or do you want to go to prom with the quarterback?"
Kirk asked.
Anna was stunned and muttered to herself for a long time, but couldn't make any sense.
In fact, there is no need to answer, Kirk has already got the answer he wanted:
Quarterback.
It seems that Anna really likes that boy. Adolescent love is like this, bold, passionate, brave, but also a little confused, blind, and disordered.
So Kirk came up with an idea.
"If you're willing, Callum and I will go to the school some other day, preferably when the quarterback shows up at the school gate. I can guarantee that after we leave, the quarterback will invite you to the prom."
However, they did not expect that as soon as the idea was put forward, both Westwood siblings protested.
"Kirk!"
"What do you want to do?"
Kirk gave Callum a reassuring look, then looked at Anna, "You should think about it from another angle. If Callum really wants to do something, you can't stop us. He shows up at your school in uniform and asks the quarterback out for questioning. What do you think will happen?"
Anna: ...
The three girls exchanged glances, somewhat flustered.
But Anna still raised her chin stubbornly, “Callum, I won’t allow you to do this.”
Before Callum could speak, Kirk took the lead and said, "Anna, so, we are now asking for your opinion to see if you are willing to accept our help. Maybe we can help you find the answer."
Anna looked at Kirk with a wary look in her eyes, but it could be seen from her flickering eyes that she had been shaken.
Unexpectedly, Kirk took a small step back and said, "If you don't want to, forget it."
"Girl, I don't really want to get involved in high school students' affairs, you know, because the success rate is too high. It's like a dimensionality reduction attack, and I don't feel any sense of accomplishment. Instead, I feel like I'm playing with a child's pure heart. I feel guilty. So, if it weren't for Callum, I would rather go look for delicious food in the West Village."
puff.
The two girls couldn't help but burst out laughing, because Kirk's words were full of ups and downs, and his teasing and sarcastic tone was full of cynical jokes. His serious look made the dramatic words burst with a kind of irony, and they couldn't help laughing.
Anna was no exception. She was trying very hard to hold back her laughter. Although the corners of her mouth did not rise, a smile still overflowed from her eyes.
Kirk shook his head slightly, "Or do you want Callum to get involved in this?"
"No! Of course not!" Anna immediately became anxious. "You come with him. If he is alone, who knows what he will do."
Callum looked hopeless: I'm still here, are you sure you don't need to be more careful with your words?
But Anna no longer cared about Callum. She looked at Kirk eagerly, fearing that Kirk would go back on his word and refuse.
