Volume 1 Deserter's Bloodbath Chapter 62: Pleading eyes!
The sound of gunfire in the ruins of Luodian became more and more frequent. On different fronts, machine guns on both sides were roaring, mixed with the sound of grenades exploding, including those of the Japanese and those of the Kuomintang's infantry.
Stopping and walking along the way, Feng E led his brothers to shuttle through the ruins and half-collapsed buildings. They met many people on the way, but no one had extra ammunition to supply them, so he had no choice but to continue retreating.
"Feng E, is your leg injured? It's bleeding all the time!"
Chen Hua walked behind Feng E and reminded him,
"It's nothing serious, just a scratch!" Feng E said, holding the gun and frowning.
"boom!"
“Chiu!”
"Get down!"
Feng E shouted in horror as bullets hit the ruins in front of them. The close shooting made Feng E break out in a cold sweat. If it was a machine gun, all of them would probably become bloody holes.
"No! It's the gunshots from Zhongzheng!"
Min Da Ge frowned and said,
"Hey! We're on the same side , don't shoot!"
A brother lay on the ground and shouted impatiently.
"We are the supervision team. Which unit are you from? Brigade Commander Ye has ordered that anyone who retreats beyond this line will be killed without mercy!"
The sound coming from the ruins made the criminal soldiers feel a chill in their spines. It turned out that they had retreated to where the supervision team was.
"We are from the Death Squadron. We ran out of ammunition, so we retreated."
"The Death Squad? Is Feng E here?"
"I'm Feng E!"
Feng E slowly bent down and stood up, shouting to the opposite side;
"Come on! Enter the yard on your own!"
After more than ten seconds, a response finally came from the other side that satisfied all the sinners.
It was only then that Feng E realized that they had arrived at the street that divided Luodian. Opposite them, next to the street, there was a yard. The entire north side of the second floor of the house had been cut off, but the first floor was still so strong that it was not turned into ruins by the Japanese artillery shells.
"Don't move!"
As soon as the criminal soldiers walked into the yard, more than a dozen soldiers wearing military police armbands in the yard raised their submachine guns and pointed their guns at the brothers who had just walked off the battlefield!
"Don't shoot! Don't shoot! We are one people, really one people." Big Min slowly squatted down, put the machine gun on the ground, and said quickly;
"What do you mean?" Feng E asked.
"Put down your weapons and follow me!" a military police officer said to Feng E.
Feng E followed the officer and walked into a room with sandbag machine gun bunkers.
"Feng E, these people are your people, right?"
An officer with the rank of colonel turned around. It was Hu Lian, the commander of the 66th Regiment. Inside the room, those criminal soldiers who did not wait for Feng E were tied up. There were sixteen of them in total, and three of them were wounded.
"Yes, sir!"
Feng E frowned and replied,
"Since entering Luodian, the brigade commander has issued an order that no retreat is allowed. Anyone who retreats will be treated as a deserter! You know this order, right?" Hu Lian asked with a sullen face.
"Yes, Captain Lin told us!" Feng E frowned and replied.
"Bang! This is a battlefield. There is only one way to deal with deserters, and that is to execute them on the spot!"
Hu Lian slapped Feng E in the face and roared angrily.
"Sir, we are not deserters. We have run out of bullets and grenades. We just want to come back to resupply and continue fighting . We in the Death Squadron do not want to be deserters!"
Feng E puffed out his chest and answered loudly.
Feng E knew that if he begged for mercy at this time, he would certainly be shot. Only by denying the charge of desertion could he have a chance of escaping. In Luodian, Hu Lian had enough power, and the supervision team of the 66th Regiment could execute them now.
“Go and have a look!”
Hu Lian instructed the military police officer,
"yes!"
The military police saluted and went out. Hu Lian stared at Feng E. Feng E's military uniform was very torn. His face was covered with traces of gunpowder, and his pants, which were tight to his thighs, were wet.
“Tick!”
A drop of blood dripped onto the floor along with the striped pants.
"Injured?" Hu Lian asked.
"It's just a small wound, caused by a piece of gravel!" Feng E replied.
"Report, there are ten members of the death squad, and the bullets in the gun chambers are less than a hundred rounds, only ninety-seven bullets; there is not a single grenade."
The military police officer reported.
"There were no excuses, and they were allowed to retreat across the street. But what did these people say? They said they retreated on your orders!"
Hu Lian asked as he stared at the dozen or so criminal soldiers tied up in the room .
“Hmm, hmm, hmm…”
The tied men tried desperately to speak, but their mouths were blocked by something, a dark brown cloth, and it was unclear where it came from. The struggling criminals attracted Feng E's attention. In the eyes of these criminals, Feng E saw pleading and guilt, and of course, more of a desire for life.
Feng E frowned, wondering what Hu Lian meant. He had issued an order to retreat, but he had not allowed these people to come here. These people had abandoned their comrades and should be treated as deserters. As long as Feng E denied it, these people would probably not be able to escape death!
"Reporting to the commander, I ordered them to go to the rear. I asked them to escort the wounded and get some ammunition. In the end, we didn't wait until the last moment. I decided to retreat with all the remaining brothers."
"I thought they had died in battle on the way!"
Feng E paused and reported loudly.
"Sixteen people, and the least amount of bullets they carried was more than fifty. What's going on?" Hu Lian smiled and reminded Feng E that these brothers who ran back had not used up all their bullets.
"The Qilian River defense line was breached, and the Japanese soldiers and our brothers were fighting each other. I was afraid that they would run into the Japanese soldiers on the road, so I collected some bullets for them."
Feng E tried his best to explain that saying this actually involved a bit of risk and he might be held accountable.
"Bring them out. Also, get the medics over here!"
Hu Lian gave the order, then turned and walked out of the room.
"call!"
Feng E let out a long sigh and wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. At this moment he knew that his life was saved!
"We are all Chinese, all members of the National Army. I don't want the brothers in the Supervision Team to be stained by your blood. Today's matter ends here. After replenishing your ammunition, return to your battlefield. Finally, I emphasize to you that anyone who retreats across this street without orders will be killed! You take care of yourself!"
Hu Lian, with a sullen face, gave a speech to the twenty After he finished speaking, he did not stop but strode into the house.
"Let them go. I'll give you thirty minutes to rest, eat something, grab the ammunition, and get out of here!"
The officers of the supervision team certainly understood what was going on today, and they also knew who the rest of the Death Squadron were. They looked at these criminal soldiers with disgust.
