Volume 1 Chapter 41 Combination Experiment

Will is something that cannot be measured specifically.
In the magical world, will, or what can also be called thought and emotion, are involved in the casting of all spells, and they play an equally important role as magic power in the spellcasting process.
Just like learning the three Ds of Apparition - destination, determination, and deliberation, these are actually all manifestations of will.
But the biggest difference between people is the difference in thinking. Different people may have the same idea that they can accomplish something, but their determination is absolutely different.
In magic, this is very intuitive.
For the same spell, such as the levitation spell, when the magic power, pronunciation and accuracy of the wand are exactly the same, the strength of the will determines the strength of the levitation spell.
Of course, such a gap will also appear when other conditions and variables appear, but it is definitely not as obvious as consciousness.
As mentioned in the original book, a truly dark wizard with a dark heart will never learn the Patronus Charm, because with their mentality they simply cannot construct any beautiful thoughts in their minds. All other conditions are fine, but they cannot even learn this magic.
According to Slughorn, Jon's will is far stronger than that of a normal wizard.
This is also the reason why he was able to forcibly use the levitation spell that should have failed.
But even if such a weak effect is used, it is completely useless. What Jon needs to do next is to keep trying and erroring the pronunciation of the spell.

Because there was no precedent, there was no most accurate pronunciation that had been tried countless times by predecessors for him to learn directly.
Even Slughorn couldn't help him at this point, and Jon could only rely on himself to explore bit by bit using the exhaustive method.
This amount of work is actually not small. Although it is just a spell, the levitation spell has a total of eight notes. There are almost thousands of combinations based on the length of the notes and the pitch of the voice. But if he devotes the remaining week of vacation to it, he can basically test it out.
But before he officially started, he first ran to McGonagall's office and asked the Transfiguration professor to help him conjure up a scale.
Because his strong will helped him make the wrong spell work, he needed a more precise comparison to tell the difference.
For the next two days, Jon stayed completely in his dormitory. He prepared a large stack of parchment and started by changing the syllable of the first sound of the spell, constantly changing the tone and length of the sound, and then observed the changes in his body on the scale.
Most mispronunciations would produce barely noticeable changes even if the spell was effective, and what was directly reflected on the scale was that Jon's weight was between 500 and 1,000 grams lighter than before the spell was cast.
Such an effect is certainly not ideal and will not provide him with any help at all, let alone allowing himself to fly in the air with the help of the levitation spell as he had expected.
The attempts continued until Neville and Ron returned to the carriage after their vacation.
When Neville returned to the dormitory, he found that Jon was like a possessed man. He kept reciting the wrong levitation spell over and over again all day long, and then stepped on the scale to measure his weight.
"What's wrong with you? Aren't you the first one among us to learn the Levitation Charm? Why can't you even recite it now? And even if you are practicing, you should hold a wand, right?"
Neville looked at Jon worriedly, his face full of doubt as to whether he had been under some evil spell.
Jon hadn't intended to hide the fact that he was practicing the levitation spell from him, and of course he couldn't tell him about the ring and the spellcasting. This was something Slughorn had specifically warned him about when he was teaching him Occlumency.
However, as long as I explained to Neville that this was what the professor taught him, with Neville's current emotional intelligence, he would be tactful and not ask any more questions.
"Two kilograms. This is the most weight loss so far, but it's definitely still not much." Staring at the scale on the scale, Jon shook his head in disappointment. He once again marked one of the pronunciation combinations on the parchment and then marked the weight loss on it.
After watching him do so many experiments, Neville had now figured out what he was trying to do and couldn't help but complain.
"I think it's probably because you went to the bathroom just now. In fact, the effect is not improved at all."

Jon thought about it and nodded in agreement with his reminder. He picked up the feather pen again and crossed out the weight marked next to the pronunciation combination, and wrote down an estimated value based on his own excretion volume.
"But can your attempt really succeed?" Neville couldn't help but say, "Professor Flitwick told us when we first started learning the Levitation Charm that this spell can't affect wizards, otherwise there would be no flying broomsticks."
Jon didn't answer his question directly, but just shrugged and said.
"I'll try again."
As he spoke, he focused on the next set of spell pronunciations that had been written on the parchment in advance.
"Well, this time let's shorten the three sounds of 'jia', 'wei', and 'ao', and lengthen the five sounds of 'yu', 'di', 'mu', 'le', and 'sa', and try it again."
Neville just sat on the bed and watched Jon stand up and start chanting a spell, but he couldn't help muttering something.
"Well, this time you just pronounced the Levitation Charm in reverse order (in the original book, Hermione taught Ron the correct pronunciation: Wingar-Dimlev-O-Sa), it would be a miracle if it worked."
Just as he finished speaking, Jon had already pronounced the combination of spells with extremely clear pronunciation.
"Yu-ga-di-m-le-vi-osa-!"
The moment the spell was uttered, Jon noticed that it was special this time.
The magic power had never been so obviously mobilized, just like the feeling when he used the magic wand to cast spells normally!
Without a wand as an outlet, the magic power passed through his body through the ring and then returned to his body.
The sudden feeling of lightness in his body almost made Jon stagger and lose his balance and fall to the ground. Fortunately, he grabbed the desk in time and stood firm again.
Neville also noticed something unusual about Jon, but he didn't think at first that this meant that Jon's experiment was successful. Instead, he looked at him suspiciously.
"You're not pretending, are you?"
Jon showed an extremely excited look on his face. He didn't say anything, but gave Neville the answer directly with practical actions. With one hand supporting the desk, he jumped up hard on the spot.
“Bang!”
The next second, his head hit the three-meter-high ceiling of the carriage hard.
