Volume 1 Chapter 18 Driving Seat
"You stole even a glass ball? Why didn't you steal the golden branch that Dumbledore's phoenix was perching on?"
Jon walked out of the library holding the Niffler in his hand, muttering to himself with a sly look on his face.
Sniff, who was caught red-handed after failing to steal, blinked his pitiful little eyes and looked at him, as if responding to Jon's question with his eyes.
I can not.
"Okay, so you really wanted to steal from me! Now that you don't dare to do that, you're just bullying the weak and stealing my things?"
Of course Jon knew the Niffler. Its appearance was very easy to identify, and coupled with its petty theft nature, no other magical creature would be like this.
"Give me back ."
Jon stretched out his other hand towards the Niffler, but the little thing looked like a real miser, putting its two little paws in the pocket in front of its belly, and had no intention of taking out the hidden crystal ball.
Seeing its posture of a dead pig that was not afraid of boiling water, Jon didn't want to spoil it. He turned it upside down on the spot and tried to pour out everything in its pocket like a bag.
Sniff desperately covered his pocket and screamed, and no matter how Jon shook him, he looked like he was determined to defend his property to the death.
In the end, Jon had no choice but to hold it and try to find someone for help. Just because he couldn't deal with the thief didn't mean that others couldn't.
Just as Jon was holding the Sniff and walking towards the restaurant, passing by the Charms classroom, he vaguely heard a rough voice shouting something inside.
"Bicky, Bicky are you here?"
Hearing the name "Bichi", the Niffler who was caught by Jon struggled even more violently. It squeaked as if responding to the shouting of the person in the classroom.
Jon immediately knew who raised this "thief", and there was no one else in the carriage except him.
He grabbed the Niffler and walked into the Charms classroom. Hagrid, the coachman, was not at his post, but was anxiously looking for something here.
"Hagrid, are you looking for it?"
Hagrid heard Jon's voice, turned around and saw what he was holding in his hand, and a look of surprise immediately appeared on his face.
"Ah! Yes, you little rascal! I finally found you! You can't get lost again. I've already lost Yaya, and I can't lose you too."
When he spoke the last part, his voice was choked with sobs.
Jon exchanged the Niffler named Bicky into Hagrid's hands, and Bicky immediately followed Hagrid's hand and quickly scurried into the pocket of his leather coat, with only half of its little head sticking out. It laid its paws on the edge of the pocket and looked at Jon vigilantly.
"Thank you, child. I still remember you. Your name is Jon, right? It was Lily who brought you to the carriage."
Hagrid's face was full of gratitude, and it was obvious that this little thing was really important to him.
Jon waved his hands, still not forgetting about the crystal ball. After all, it was something Neville gave him, and he couldn't explain to anyone if he just lost it.
"It stole my things, Hagrid. Can you help me get it back from it?"
"So that's how it is."
Hagrid immediately frowned and took Beech out of his pocket.
"Give it back. I told you not to steal anything from this carriage."
Beech obviously listened to Hagrid more. He rummaged in his pocket for a while with a pitiful and reluctant look on his face, and then put the crystal ball in Hagrid's hand.
Hagrid returns the crystal ball to Jon.
"I'm really sorry. I will control it in the future."
Jon didn't care about this little episode, but he was curious about another thing.
"It's okay, but you don't have to drive the carriage? Can you leave in front of the carriage?"
A smile appeared on Hagrid's face.
"Of course I don't have to keep watching them. Even if the Thestrals leave, I can go on my own. Do you want to go with me? Just consider it my way of making up for what happened this time."
Jon was indeed somewhat moved by his words, and he asked hesitantly.
"Wouldn't that be against school rules?"
"Don't worry, you're not leaving the carriage, and I'll be with you, so it'll be fine."
As Hagrid said this, he enthusiastically pushed Jon towards the corridor. Jon didn't hesitate anymore and followed Hagrid to the front of the carriage.
At the end of the corridor they came to, directly opposite was Dumbledore's headmaster's office, and Hagrid took Jon to open the unmarked door on the left side of the office.
The moment the door was opened, Jon felt a breeze accompanied by the fragrance of wheat blowing towards him from outside the door. Outside was a golden wheat field that was constantly receding.
"Follow me Jon, don't just stand there."
Hagrid led the way, and Jon followed behind him as they left the carriage.
After coming out of the carriage, there was a fairly open area. The last time Lily took Jon to talk to Hagrid under the carriage, it was too dark at night and he didn't see the full view of the driver's seat. Only now could he see the furnishings here.
Hagrid was not sitting on an ordinary chair, but a couch that was nearly three or four meters long. The couch was covered with a thick layer of animal fur. It seemed that he would lie on it to rest in his spare time.
Wrapped around the couch was a row of curved wooden cabinets. The cabinets were taller than Jon, but just reached Hagrid's chest when he sat down, giving him a clear view ahead.
The cabinet is filled with all kinds of strange things, as well as a large teapot, teacups, and some snacks.
Hagrid invited Jon to sit next to him, then poured him a cup of warm black tea and brought him a piece of cream honey cake.
The driver's seat was obviously cast under some kind of spell, isolating all the strong winds. Only a refreshing breeze blew in. The sound of the carriage galloping on the ground was louder than in the carriage, but it did not seem noisy. Instead, it gave people a feeling of being on a journey all the time.
They were now driving through a vast wheat field that seemed to have no end. Jon, holding a cup of tea in his hand, had to stand on tiptoe to see the scene ahead over the cabinet.
The golden wheat seemed to come alive and automatically made way for the carriage before it was crushed by it.
Hagrid saw Jon's inconvenience and brought him a small stool and placed it on the couch so that he would not have to stand on tiptoe to see the scenery ahead when sitting on it.
