Volume 1 Chapter 14 Great Mr.
There was no shortage of room in the carriage.
There are less than sixty students and professors in Hogwarts, so the dormitories are not divided into four- or five-person rooms, but spacious two-person rooms.
It was not a coincidence that Jon and Neville were assigned to the same dormitory, but it was intentional by Professor McGonagall.
Among the freshmen, except for Lavender, the only girl, there are four boys including John, two of whom were brought back from outside. They are two family members of the Order of the Phoenix who already have knowledge of the magical world.
Whether it is to allow Jon and Justin to integrate into the identity of wizards more quickly, or to allow them to get over the sadness and grief of leaving their familiar families and environment as soon as possible, arranging them separately is undoubtedly the best choice.
The student dormitory is not big, but it is more than enough to accommodate two people. It is equipped with two four-poster beds, two desks and chairs, and a window that cannot be opened.
The bed had been made neatly before they came in, and daily necessities and several new robes were also neatly laid out.
Jon was sitting by the window, looking at the scenery outside the carriage window.
After the dinner at the beach, they got on the carriage and continued their journey. Looking out through the window, they could only see pitch black outside. Only occasionally could they vaguely see something passing by, the ground shaking slightly, and something whizzing past.
"I heard that the magic on this carriage is improved from the magic on the Knight Bus. We can go almost anywhere in Europe on it, but it seems that Professor Dumbledore has never let this carriage leave the UK."
Neville was sitting on the bed opposite Jon, blinking as he told the history of the carriage.
Jon withdrew his gaze from the window and looked at the round-faced boy opposite him.
"Did your family teach you magic before you came to Hogwarts?"
Neville said, nodding.
"Of course, even if we weren't at Hogwarts, our family would be living in danger. The Longbottoms and Ron's Weasleys were both wanted by the Ministry of Magic. So before I came to Hogwarts, my father used his wand to teach me a few spells, but they were just small spells for asking for help. I didn't have a wand myself, and I didn't have many opportunities to practice, so I didn't know how to cast advanced spells."
Jon immediately became interested. Whether in peacetime or in the dangerous present, magic always brought him the greatest attraction.
“Can you show me a demonstration?”
Neville did not refuse. He raised the wand in his hand, trying to find the feel of it, as if he had not held a wand like this for a long time. Then he gently raised it upwards and swung it sideways.
"Lumos."
A faint light lit up at the tip of Neville's wand. The light was not dazzling, but it illuminated the space in the dormitory.
Jon looked at the light, his eyes shining, and raised the chestnut wand in his hand.
"When you chant the spell, you have to do one up and one down, right? "
"Yes, this is a very simple spell. If you are proficient in it, you can even omit the wand-waving gesture and cast it when the wand is not in your hand. This will make it easier for wizards to find their wands that they have thrown around and forgotten where they are."
Seeing that Jon was eager to try, Neville couldn't help but continue speaking.
"I don't recommend you try it yourself at this time. Although this spell is simple, it is easy for beginners to make mistakes when learning and ignite the tip of the wand, which will cause irreversible damage to the wand itself."
Jon immediately stopped what he was doing. He was eager to try the magic of this world, but if there was a risk of damaging the wand in his hand, he would suppress his curiosity.
After all, to him and Hogwarts, the wand in his hand is more than just a wand.
"Anyway, we are in a magic school now, so there is really no rush to learn magic." Jon put the wand in his hand back into the pocket of his robe beside the bed. "What classes do we have tomorrow?"
After the dinner, Professor McGonagall distributed the class timetables, and Jon and Neville also received one.
"The first class in the morning is Professor Slughorn's History of Magic, followed by Professor McGonagall's Herbology class. In the afternoon, there is also Professor Flitwick's Charms class. Finally, in the evening, we are assigned to help the fifth-year seniors prepare dinner."
While they were talking, they both changed into pajamas and lay on the soft bed. Neither of them was very sleepy, but instead talked about other things while lying on the bed.
"Does the dark devil you are talking about have a name?"
"Of course there is. He is not really a demon that crawled out of hell. However, no one dared to say his name before. People in the magic world call him 'the mysterious man'."
"Isn't he now the head of the Ministry of Magic and that Hogwarts castle? People don't still call him that?"
"You guessed right. My father told me that after the Dark Lord consolidated the power of the entire wizarding world, his personality seemed to have changed. He was no longer as cruel and crazy as before. He divided all wizards into different classes according to their bloodlines, but he did not completely eliminate or imprison the Muggle wizards that he had always wanted to kill. As for the names of the outside world, people dare not call him 'the mysterious man' or 'the Dark Lord'. Except for his most core subordinates who still call him master, everyone else in the wizarding world calls him 'the great gentleman'."
"Great sir...ha."
"why are you laughing?"
"If he came up with this name himself, then he is too boastful. If someone else deliberately spread the word about him, then his intention to lick his boots is too straightforward."
"Actually, think about it, those people were trying to survive."
"Yeah, no one wants to die."
"But for some people, there are things that are more important than life and death."
…
When the first ray of sunlight shone in from the window in the early morning, Jon opened his eyes from his sleep.
After Neville washed up with him, he left the dormitory and went to the restaurant on the carriage for breakfast.
The three meals a day here are prepared by the students themselves, and breakfast is no exception. In addition to the class schedule, Professor McGonagall also arranges a cooking schedule. Students of different grades are responsible for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. If there are fewer people in a grade, some lower grade students to help them.
Ron, Justin, and Lavender who was in the girls' dormitory joined them at the dining table. After all, they were all freshmen in the same grade and had classes together, so they had the most opportunities to communicate and interact with each other.
After finishing their breakfast, the five of them walked towards the History of Magic classroom together, ready to start their first class after arriving at Hogwarts.
