Volume 1 Chapter 0090 Home Cooking
"I left and came back. Boy..."
"Adam, you can call me Adam." Nan Yi said.
"OK, Adam, where are you going?" Scarlett spread her hands and said.
"Go home, how about you? To our school?"
Scarlett shrugged and said, "No, I was just taking a walk and I don't know why I ended up here."
"Oh, it's already dinner time, have you eaten yet?"
"No."
"So, do you want to come together?"
"You want to invite me to dinner?"
"Not really." Nan Yi smiled evilly, "I mean, I eat it, look, I'll let you smell it."
"Aha, you are such an interesting person." Scarlett laughed.
"It's just a joke. If you don't mind, I'd like to formally invite you to dinner. Doll, may I invite you to dinner?"
"Sure!"
"OK, let's go."
Nan Yi took Scarlett towards the old villa. Passers-by on the street saluted them one after another, vying to see the sight.
There are already quite a few foreigners in Beijing, and most of the Beijingers have seen them.
But they rarely see a foreign woman and a local man walking alone together, talking and laughing.
"Are you back for another interview mission this time?"
"Not really. NBC is going to set up an office in Beijing, and I was chosen to be stationed here."
"Oh, you're going to stay here permanently?"
"Yes, I will stay here for at least two years."
"It's pretty good. We have peace here, no war, and the people are very hospitable. There are also many delicious foods. Of course, the premise is that you can get used to eating Chinese food."
"Of course, I agreed to come here because I like Chinese food. There are so many delicious foods here. In two years, I want to try all your delicacies." Scarlett said excitedly.
"That's good. Otherwise, I would have to cook Western food for you. I don't really have any ingredients that can be used to make Western food. The most I can make for you is a salad that's not authentic."
“Have you ever eaten Western food?”
"I've eaten it. There's a Lao Mo in Beijing. Do you know about it?"
"I know. Your foreign affairs personnel told me. I've been there, and I don't like it. It's the Soviet revisionist Russian way of doing things."
"Uh-huh, I have a question for you, but I don't know if it's too presumptuous."
"Ask whatever you want."
"I can see that you are of Irish and Dutch descent, and perhaps Prussian as well, am I right?"
Scarlett smiled and said, "You are right. Not only do I have the three bloodlines you mentioned, I also have Jewish, Caucasian, and one-sixth of my bloodline is the same as yours."
"I was saying, your facial features are not as three-dimensional as those of Westerners, and you also have a bit of an oriental charm."
"So, how did you know I have multiple bloodlines?"
"This is my secret, a man's secret." Nan Yi said with a mysterious smile.
It was not easy for him to explain this problem, so he might as well pretend to be mysterious.
"Wow, you're a man with a secret."
"Of course, I have secrets, and you have secrets too. Maybe someday, we can exchange secrets with each other, and then we will have more secrets, our common secrets."
"I'll invite you to have a drink at the International some other day, where we can exchange secrets." Scarlett said, throwing a wink at Nan Yi that wasn't quite a flirt.
"I am looking forward."
After walking for five or six minutes, they arrived at Nan Yi's old villa.
“This is my house.”
Scarlett stood outside the courtyard gate and looked at the old house for a while. "It's very beautiful."
"Thank you. Please come in."
Nan Yi welcomed Scarlett into the living room and asked her to sit down. "Coffee or tea? I have Italian and American coffee, and only green tea."
"Italian."
"Hold on."
Nan Yi ran to Lai Biao's former room and found all the things he used to drink coffee.
Lai Biao likes to drink coffee and has channels to get good coffee.
Twenty minutes later, Nan Yi made two cups of freshly ground Italian coffee, handed one to Scarlett, sat opposite her, and picked up the sugar cube on the table, "Do you want more sugar?"
"Half, thank you."
Nan Yi took a candy out of the candy box, cut it into two halves with a knife, gave one half to Scarlett, and put the other half back into the candy box.
Nan Yi doesn't usually drink coffee unless he stays up late. In order to stay alert, the bitterer the better.
I took a sip and the coffee was good!
It was the first time for Nan Yi to drink Lai Biao’s coffee. He was young, energetic and strong now, so he didn’t need to drink coffee to refresh himself.
"Adam, you are the only person I met in Beijing who really knows how to drink coffee." Scarlett took a sip of coffee and nodded with satisfaction.
"Really? That shouldn't be the case. You're staying in a foreign-related hotel. Haven't you seen him there?"
“No, the people I met who drink coffee can only be said to be able to afford it, not to know how to drink it.”
"Thank you." Nan Yi took another sip of coffee and said, "Do you like black food?"
"Are you asking me if I like spicy food?"
"right."
“I can eat spicy food.”
"OK, then you sit for a while. If you are hungry, you can eat some biscuits first." Nan Yi pointed to the tin can of biscuits on the table, then stood up and walked into the yard.
He kicked away the door of the coal stove in the corner of the yard, put the kettle on it, walked to the side, opened the door of a wooden cabinet, and revealed two refrigerators inside.
Nan Yi had to disguise the refrigerator as it was too conspicuous, especially since there were two of them.
There are pork and beef in the frozen food, which can be used to make stir-fried meat and stir-fried beef with pickled mustard greens; asparagus and cucumber can be mixed into a cold dish, and tomatoes can be used to fry eggs and be used to make noodles, so that the staple food is available.
Nan Yi calculated the dishes to be cooked, washed what needed to be washed, and cut what needed to be cut.
"Do you need help?"
Scarlett walked over to Nan Yi with coffee in hand.
“Can you cook Chinese food?”
"Won't."
"There's nothing you can do to help. Just wait and eat."
“That’s a shame.”
Scarlett shrugged. She hadn't meant too much when she said she wanted to help. It was just a polite remark she had learned after arriving in the capital.
Nan Yi was busy there, and Scarlett stood by and watched. She didn't follow Nan Yi back to the living room until he finished cooking all the dishes .
"Do you need a spoon and fork?"
"No, I can use chopsticks. I often order fried noodles from Chinese restaurants."
As she spoke, Scarlett picked up a piece of pickled mustard greens and beef with her chopsticks. Her posture was a little awkward, but she was holding it very steadily.
"Nice!" After taking a bite, Scarlett praised, "It's different from what I had in New York and in restaurants here. It has a very unique taste."
"The taste of home, we call it the taste of home, the taste of mom."
"I can understand the smell of home, but the smell of mom, what does that mean?"
