The second volume is full of glory and splendor in the capital, and the spirit is full of vitality in the foggy city. Chapter 200: Here We Come Again (Part 2)
Subtitle of this chapter: Writing a diary is a good habit!
June 30, 1919
Mi Ping always adhered to the principle of "I would rather be betrayed by others than betray others" when discussing marriage...
Xi Yu once said, "Marriage should be tailored to the specific needs of the individual," and also said, "Those who are content can enjoy family happiness." Furthermore, only those who truly love themselves can love others...
Chen Yinke said, "Being inferior to others in learning and morality is indeed my greatest shame; but if I marry a wife inferior to others, why should I be ashamed?" He also said, "Marrying a wife is only one of the most insignificant things in life."
…
From all this, it seems clear that Ms. Chen's (Chen Xinyi) admiration is genuine and genuine. Therefore, Mi should not betray her and should immediately proceed with the engagement. There's no need to dwell on trivial matters, delaying and hesitating, wasting time and energy, and wasting both yourself and others.
October 19, 1919
Although the matter of Ms. Chen is very difficult, we must make a decision. We must either agree or reject it. There is no other way and no room for further delay. After further consideration, he decided to agree. He discussed this with Xi Yu and Chen Yinke, and they both agreed that this should be done immediately. So that evening, he sent a letter to Chen Liexun agreeing to the marriage, written on Chinese paper.
——Excerpt from "A New Edition of Wu Mi's Diary"
Late in the evening of Monday, April 25, 1921, in the front garden of Ms. Brooks's house.
Our Master Yuan is bidding farewell to the three Harvard heroes.
"Brother Xiyu, by the time Brother Yizhong (Zhao Yuanren) arrives at Harvard in August, I should no longer be in the United States..."
"Brother Hongjian, how do you know he'll arrive in August?"
"Brother Xiyu, I have a little trick... just kidding, but someone told me anyway. Please give him this copy of 'International Standard Chinese Character Scheme' when the time comes. Please."
"Brother Hongjian, don't worry, as long as he comes to the United States, I will definitely hand it over to him."
After dealing with Tang Yongtong, he turned to Chen Yinke and said, "Brother Heshou, are you going to Europe in June? You can come with me then."
"Brother Hongjian, let's contact each other then."
After sending the two to the car, Yuan Yan suddenly turned around and looked at Wu Mi who stayed at the end. She couldn't help but think of the magical book "Green Day" in later generations, which was about "enjoying the Hujia in the room and playing the Dongxiao outside the house".
He almost vomited out the overnight meal... This is impossible. The digestive function of the Master Ball is too powerful. He just almost vomited out everything he ate tonight.
There's nothing we can do about it. The old man is allergic to green things.
Master Yuan, disgusted by the green color, couldn't help but want to disgust Master Wu again: "Brother Yu Seng, I'm really sorry. I just had a few more drinks than I should have, so I hope you can forgive me if I offended you. "
Although Wu Mi secretly wanted to kill Yuan Yanshu as if he were Shao Zhengmao, he could only force a smile and said, "Brother Hongjian, no, no. We would like to thank you for your hospitality."
"Okay, okay..." Yuan Yan frowned and said, "Oh, brother, I don't have anything to give you, so I'll just give you two more lines of poetry..."
Without waiting for the other party to open his mouth to refuse, he chanted in a gentle voice: "Gradually I can understand the truth of human nature, and realize that separation and reunion, sorrow and joy are all predestined."
Master Wu looked at him suspiciously and asked puzzledly, "Brother Hongjian, what do these two lines of poetry mean?"
Master Yuan smiled and said, "Brother Yu Monk, these two lines of my poem don't make much sense now, but they will be interesting in the future..."
"Please get in the car, we'll see you later!"
April 25, 1921
Mi Yuxi and Chen Yinke went to New York to meet Yuan Yanshu, who treated them to a lavish banquet.
When they parted, Yuan Jun warned Mi Yun that blind dates were risky and marriage required caution. He also wrote half a poem, which gradually allowed him to gain a deeper understanding of the world and the world, realizing that separations, reunions, sorrows, and joys are all predestined.
He always mentioned the "New Culture Movement" during the banquet, but he also made this prophecy through the spirit medium, which is very ridiculous!
This man is wise and treacherous, resolute in his actions, eloquent in his words, knowledgeable in his memory, and generous in his adherence to wrongdoing. He can be called the Shao Zhengmao of today.
Unbelievable... Unbelievable!
I came across this diary in February 1935, and I don’t know what to write to express my feelings at the moment. He was really right about everything about me, my ex-wife, and Ms. Mao!
Is it a coincidence... Is it a coincidence?
Gradually you will be able to understand the truth of the world and realize that separation, reunion, sorrow and joy are all predestined.
The maid plays the flute to lure the phoenix away, and the flowers bloom and fall every year.
It’s not a coincidence… It’s not a coincidence!
After I wrote this poem, I found that the first two lines were very familiar, so I dug out this diary!
Oh my God…oh my God…oh my God!
He is not Shao Zhengmao, but Yuan Tiangang! (Editor's note)
Editor's Note: This is the most mysterious entry in Wu Mi's diary, and when it was later published, it sparked great controversy. This controversy was not about Master Wu, but about another master of the Republic of China, Yuan Yanshu.
We can see that Wu Mi recorded the entire process of his visit to Mr. Yuan Yanshu in April 1921. Mr. Yuan, who was fond of fortune-telling, also made some predictions about marriage to him.
In August of the same year, Wu Mi, having returned from studying in the United States, rushed to Hangzhou without even a two-day rest to meet Chen Xinyi. However, this encounter was highly dramatic, seemingly harboring a sense of tragedy from the outset. According to Wu Mi's diary, they simply stared at each other in silence. Unexpectedly, a moment later, another female protagonist appeared: Mao Yanwen.
Mao Yanwen and Chen Xinyi were good friends. Before that, she and her cousin Zhu Junyi had already made a vow under the moonlight and secretly pledged their lives to each other, and she even escaped marriage.
Wu Mi, Zhu Junyi's deskmate and close friend, had known Mao Yanwen since their early days at Tsinghua University. Zhu Junyi would always show Wu Mi his cousin's love letters after reading them. Wu Mi was deeply impressed by the talent and talent revealed in Mao Yanwen's letters, and over time, a strange feeling welled up within him. However, due to their schoolmate relationship, he kept it hidden deep within his heart.
After Wu Mi and Chen Xinyi officially married in September, the situation suddenly changed. Zhu Junyi suddenly changed his mind and firmly proposed to cancel the engagement with Mao Yanwen, arguing that inbreeding would harm the next generation.
Mao Yanwen, who had waited six years, escaped her marriage only to marry her cousin, was caught off guard. In desperation, she turned to Wu Mi and his wife for help. Wu Mi then acted as a go-between, shuttling back and forth between the two, trying to mediate. However, Zhu Junyi was determined to leave and refused to spend the rest of his life with Mao Yanwen. As a result, the marriage between Zhu and Mao failed, and the engagement was ultimately broken off.
At this time, Wu Mi brought trouble upon himself. After Zhu and Mao parted ways, Wu Mi, regardless of his status as a married man, confessed his love to Mao Yanwen, but Mao flatly rejected him.
Wu Mi, unwilling to resign himself to Mao Yanwen's rejection, resorted to even more unorthodoxy, divorcing Chen Xinyi, his wife of seven years. Public opinion was outraged, with members of the Xueheng faction and even his father condemning him. Their story became a tabloid staple in Shanghai in the 1930s.
However, by 1931, Wu Mi no longer wanted to marry Mao Yanwen and turned to pursue other people.
At the time, Mao Yanwen cried and said, "You should at least think about me. I'm a 30-year-old girl. What should I do? Is our starting point wrong?"
Wu Mi remained unmoved, calmly stating, "People are often limited by time and space, and their moods change. They have no autonomy, and there is nothing they can do."
Regarding this, Wu Mi wrote in his diary: Although Yan cried that night, it was not enough to move my heart. It only made Mi hate Yan, and made me regret that I did not know the person well before and lost the ground because of my feelings!
Mao Yanwen was so angry that she married Xiong Xiling, a famous figure in the Republic of China, in February 1935. Xiong Xiling was older than her father. They held their wedding in Shanghai.
Upon learning the news, Wu Mi published his love poem "Mr. Wu Mi's Troubles" in the newspaper and recited it to his students in class.
Friends at Tsinghua University asked Jin Yuelin to persuade Wu Mi. Jin Yuelin said to Wu Mi, "We don't understand your poem, but the content is about your love life and involves Mao Yanwen. This is not something you can publish publicly. It's a private matter, and private matters should not be publicized in the newspapers. We go to the toilet every morning, but we don't publicize it."
This metaphor made Wu Mi very angry: "My love is not going to the toilet!"
Later, Wu Mi wrote a congratulatory poem to Xiong Mao and the others. When he finished writing, he discovered that Yuan Yanshu had predicted this event to him fourteen years ago.
So the question is, is Mr. Yuan really a "Sage of the Bamboo Grove" with supernatural powers, as some claim, or did Mr. Wu, with his photographic memory, simply remember these two lines and later happened to use them in his own poem?
——Excerpt from "A New Edition of Wu Mi's Diary"
Master Yuan, who had watched the three Harvard geniuses leave, suddenly turned around and asked, "Shuzhi, do you have the habit of keeping a diary?"
"Write a diary?" Huang Zongyi, puzzled, shook his head and said, "Uncle, I never write a diary."
A strange light flashed in Yuan Yan's black eyes, and she said quietly, "Shuzhi, you should start writing a diary from now on. You know, a diary is a very good thing for people like you. Because..."
"Host, Pika or Meowth, choose one for yourself."
He could only sigh, patted his nephew's shoulder and said, "Just write it down anyway."
Mr. Huang, who was under a "hypnosis", nodded blankly and said, "I understand, uncle. I will start writing my diary today!"
