The Real Hogwarts Chapter 65 Malfoy
After living in Diagon Alley for a week, although the work here is hard, Jon has not yet encountered the trouble he originally thought he might encounter.
The potion shop received many customers every day, but most of the half-bloods and pure-bloods would not even look at him, completely treating him as air. When a small number of people showed disgust on their faces after entering the door, Ikmo would take the initiative to ask them to go to the cellar to avoid him.
After all, Edgecombe was a member of the Order of the Phoenix, and Jon could feel that he sympathized with the "Mudblood"'s situation. However, because this was in a busy wizarding street like Diagon Alley, he had no way of giving "Smith" normal treatment and respect in public, and could only give him some secret care in daily life.
For example, the bed that Jon sleeps on now at least has bedding, and the food he eats is the same as Acme's. When he notices a wizard with obvious ill intentions towards the "Mudbloods" entering the store, Acme will implicitly help him out.
In fact, Jon had thought about leaving the potion shop and visiting other shops in Diagon Alley several times, but after hesitating again and again, he chose to give up.
By the end of July, there was only a month left before the new semester started. The number of tourists in Diagon Alley increased every day, and many of them were parents who brought their children to buy textbooks and learning supplies for the new semester.
With his current identity, it was impossible for him to walk openly on the streets of Diagon Alley, unless he stole a hair from another wizard, turned into an adult wizard and went out with a wand.
But the risk was too great. He couldn't be sure of the identity of the wizard he had become. If he met someone he knew, he would be easily exposed.
In the end, Jon did not try to take the risk. His original purpose of going out was just to stroll around the surrounding shops and see if there were any "Mudbloods" like him who were sent here for forced labor during the summer vacation. There was nothing else more important.
Just today, when John was cleaning the windows as usual after Aikmo opened the shop, a father and son with light blond hair and well-dressed clothes walked towards the potion shop.
They seemed not to notice Jon, and the two of them continued talking in unison.
"…Not only did he accept an appointment from the Ministry of Magic and become the owner of the Leaky Cauldron, his antique shop in Knockturn Alley is still stocking items. This old guy was really lucky. The previous owner of the Leaky Cauldron was Old Tom, but he moved to France with his family five years ago. Humph, I heard that he couldn't accept the changes in the wizarding world but didn't have the courage to resist. In the end, this position was won by Borgin, who seems to have a lot of connections with that gentleman."
"But you still have to bow your head when he sees dad!"
"We pure-bloods are the most noble in this world, Draco. Even if he has connections, he is just a half-blood."
As they pushed the door and prepared to enter the store, the father and son ended the topic. Especially when talking about "half-blood bastard", the blond middle-aged wizard obviously lowered his voice deliberately.
After living here for a week, Jon learned some common sense in the current magical world.
Under Voldemort's rule, the status of half-bloods was naturally not as low as that of Muggle wizards. After all, if he really only combined the power of pure-blood wizards, it would be almost impossible for him to consolidate his rule over the wizarding world.
If classes were divided by bloodline, then he would have to win over the mixed-blood wizards, who were the largest in number in the wizarding world, and at least give them an equal status.
Therefore, the classes in the entire wizarding world are now clear - pureblood > half-blood > mudblood. This system can actually be said to be a replica of the four social classes during the ancient Roman slave society.
Purebloods were nobles and knights, half-bloods were citizens, and mudbloods were slaves.
Although the status of half-bloods is not as high as that of pure-bloods, they also have human rights. The "half-blood bastard" mentioned by the middle-aged wizard just now is actually an insulting name used by pure-bloods to refer to half-bloods. It is also strictly prohibited in today's wizarding world. It is similar to calling Muggle wizards "mudbloods" in the normal magical society in the original book.
Many of the shop owners in Diagon Alley were half-blood, so no matter how arrogant and presumptuous the middle-aged wizard was, he would not dare to openly say the name "half-blood bastard".
Jon heard the middle-aged wizard address the boy next to him who was about his age, and based on their appearance, he of course guessed who the two men were.
Lucius Malfoy and Draco Malfoy were of pure-blooded descent and were strong supporters of Voldemort who stood on his side from the very beginning of his uprising.
He is now the Chief of Staff of the Auror Command in the Ministry of Magic, and seems to be highly valued by Voldemort.
But Jon, who has read the original novel, knows that the Malfoy family's loyalty to Voldemort is not absolute. They may support one side, but their main purpose is to seek benefits for their own family.
Watching them walk into the potion shop, Jon continued to wipe the glass of the outside window in silence.
His tattered linen robe was out of place with the adults and children on the street who were wearing clean and tidy robes, as if they were from two different worlds. However, he did not care about it. Instead, he observed the movements of Malfoy and his son after they entered the store out of the corner of his eye.
Ikemo's attitude towards them was very warm. Even though the mixed-bloods were citizens, their status was far from that of the privileged "aristocrats".
At a young age, Draco also learned the arrogant attitude from his father. When he glanced at the potions on the shelves, his eyes revealed obvious disgust.
They didn't stay in the store for long. Instead, they told Aikemo what they needed and bought two bottles of potions that looked like enhancers. They walked out again within two minutes.
This time John was not as lucky as before. When Draco came out of the shop, he turned around and noticed John who was washing the rag. An expression of disgust immediately appeared on his already arrogant face.
"I actually ran into a mudblood."
Lucius heard his words and looked at Jon, his brows visibly frowned.
"Is he the same year as you when he entered the castle?"
" Yes, I have some impression of this little bug. I have seen him several times in the castle. When Professor Crouch was dealing with those daring mudbloods, he was frightened and cried on the spot."
There was no change on Jon's face despite the unpleasant names they called him. He continued to wipe the window in silence and listened very carefully to what Draco said.
"The headmaster is still too kind to these mudbloods. Last semester, we found these bugs holding rallies and organizations in the castle."
