Postscript (I)
Fang Cheng braved the heavy snow, walked through the bare woods and entered the parking lot. He skillfully opened the automatic door on the front left and lay down on the seat.
The heater in the car was roaring. He covered his red, frozen ears with his hands and stomped his feet outside the car door to shake off the snow.
" Why are you so late today? Your team meeting must have ended long ago, and you didn't even call me."
"I just ran into Director Huang in the corridor. He told me that the National Natural Science Foundation's work has been done... the one with 70 a year. He made a lot of efforts this time. I must thank him when I get a chance."
"Oh, good news! It's finally done. Your roommate is quite reliable. He has been so helpful since he became a leader."
"What kind of leader is this... He said he was my roommate , but we didn't see each other very often after that, but we still had a basic friendship."
"Then why don't you become a director and let me see it. By the way, your son is staying over at his classmate's house today. We can go out for a meal to celebrate."
Fang Cheng started the car and finally felt relieved. According to previous experience, there was a high possibility that the electric car would not start at this temperature.
"It's definitely too congested to get around on the Fourth Ring Road at this point... You just said your son went to a classmate's house to spend the night? A male or female classmate?"
"Of course it's a male classmate. Do you think everyone is like us when we were kids? If you don't want to go, then go home. I think it's getting dark now, so it's okay to go home early..."
"I have to correct my homework tonight, and I've been very tired recently, so I might not be able to do it..."
"That's not what I meant. You can just ask the students to correct the homework. It's snowing so heavily today, let's use up the leftover hot pot base. We can buy some wine on the way back."
"You want to drink?"
"I don't drink, don't you want to drink?"
"good."
The car slowly drove out of the campus, and the city under the neon lights looked particularly bright under the cover of snow.
"It's quite ironic that you, a hero who saved humanity, have to worry about applying for funding. If you just publish a few pages of those deciphered alien documents, you should be able to win hundreds of Nobel Prizes."
"Auntie, can we bear the risk of making it public? And you know we have rules..."
Fang Cheng put his index finger to his lips.
"It's amazing! If I didn't have the memories of another reincarnation, I wouldn't believe that those were the facts."
"Indeed, I didn't expect that your memory could be sensed from a cat. I don't understand the principle behind this..."
"I'll sweep its grave when I go back home."
The woman next to him pulled the blanket from the back seat of the car over her body and closed her eyes to rest.
"Are you still thinking about that person now?"
"who?"
"What do you think?"
"It's so confusing, who knows what you're talking about..."
"You must know, stop pretending."
“…”
"I always say I don't want to think about it anymore, but you don't believe me. Let the past be the past. Life is so short. If you keep dwelling on it, won't you be giving up on many things in front of you?"
"The main thing is that there is no news about this person... It makes me feel a little uncomfortable. Do you really have no information to tell me?"
"Even if I wanted to hide it, you can see it, and it's obvious. There's no point in dwelling on it. I don't think it's necessary to talk about it anymore... Don't bring your work emotions home. It's almost New Year's Day, so you should be happy..."
"Then I will go back to my home for the New Year this year."
"What's the difference? They're both on the same floor."
Fang Cheng drove the car into the underground garage, opened the door and walked out. He smoothed the wrinkles on the corners of his coat and took a few deep breaths of the cold air.
"Hey, hold the bag for me."
Two people walked into the elevator and looked at the numbers that increased as the metal box slowly rose . The air was quiet and a little dull.
As the elevator door opened, a ray of green light suddenly shot into the iron box, dazzling Fang Cheng's eyes so that he could hardly open them.
"Why are you so startled?"
"Ah? You didn't see it?"
"What the hell, are you fainted from exhaustion?"
"No, nothing, let's go inside..."
