Part 7

I remained in the same position—my butt lifted from the chair, my body hunched, my arm extended, my nails within a millimeter of the button. I saw the hairs on my arm stand on end, and tiny bumps formed on my skin. My back felt like an icy chill, like being stabbed by a sharp knife.

I dared not move, yet I couldn't stop my body from shaking slightly. I thought I should turn around to see what was happening behind me, but I didn't. I was afraid I'd see something I feared. It would be disastrous if I found myself trapped in the room by a terrifying entity. Yet, I was still clearly aware of something behind me, and I could tell where it was from close enough.

The TV on the desk in front of me was old, the color was unstable, and when it was turned off, the screen was black. Then I saw the switch slowly being pulled out, as if by an invisible, unseen hand. A chill ran down my back, and my legs gave way again.

The switch made a sharp snap as it touched my outstretched finger, and the screen flickered and lit up. I wanted to scream, but the sound was blocked in my throat, and my whole body was shaking uncontrollably. A female announcer appeared on the screen. It was Li Zimeng. I just listened to her fluently broadcasting the "International News" program. But unlike usual, each piece of news followed immediately by the next, without pause or visuals. Even while reading the news, she didn't pause, not even for a breath. Her speed grew faster and faster, almost inaudible.

My muscles ached, and I could only hold on by force. I dared not move, fearing that any movement would upset my balance. I was now trapped between that terrifying thing behind me and this damned TV. It would be best if I could hide so that no one could notice me. Even I knew how ridiculous this idea was.

A strange expression crossed Li Zimeng's face. It was a mocking smile, something you would never see on a CCTV announcer, but it seemed to be changing. By the time I noticed it, the face had already changed drastically, becoming that of a foreigner. I recognized it instantly: it was Saddam!

Although his face had changed, the expression remained the same. The news had been switched to domestic news, interspersed with phrases like "Study the Three Represents." I knew that no matter how much the face on TV resembled Saddam, it had nothing to do with the Iraqi president; they had simply borrowed his face. But this thought actually frightened me even more.

The announcer's speech had slowed down at some point, and the irony in his smile grew more pronounced. The background behind him had faded to a pale, hazy blue. I noticed that the sunlight streaming into the office had faded, and the surroundings were clearly darkening . But my neck was frozen, and I couldn't move it, so I couldn't see what was happening in the room.

Suddenly, I realized the person on the screen was speaking to me. His expression was fierce, his tone was stern, and every word he said was amplified and slurred. He suddenly leaned forward with such force that his body burst through the TV screen, transforming into a thick, bloody fumes. I screamed and dodged with all my might.

The TV went out, the desk vanished, and the entire office became dim and shadowy. I felt something behind me approaching. Trembling, I slowly turned around, but there was nothing. Not only was there no one behind me, but even the wall seemed to have vanished into the darkness. A breeze, thick with the scent of blood, swept past me. I still felt the presence of that thing very close. My eyes involuntarily glanced at the wall, and I froze. The woman in the portrait on the wall glared at me fiercely!

I could feel the blood draining from my face, turning pale. My body went limp, barely able to stand. The dividing wall was gone (which meant I couldn't see it). The portrait remained where it was, but it was suspended in mid-air. The woman's head had transformed from a flat surface into a three-dimensional space, and the background had become a dark, deep hole. From the hole, a chilling wind blew, causing her hair to dance. The quartz clock next to me had turned a pale green, its hands pointing to six-forty (so, the click just now meant it had struck six).

A sinister grin played on the woman's lips, and two tiny fangs peeked out from beneath her lip, sharp and gleaming, making her look a bit like a vampire from a Hollywood horror film. Her eyelids were still drooping, but she stared at me through her lashes. Her face was evil, fierce, and filled with hostility. A faint green light shone from nowhere, casting a strange hue on her skin.
