Part 22
"He" stretched out one hand in front of me. I could see that hand clearly. It was white and clean, with all five fingers intact, but it didn't look like a worker's. With his other hand, "he" grabbed the skin of the first hand (I couldn't see the other hand clearly) and pulled hard, like pulling a glove, and pulled the skin off the hand, just like the famous scene in "Terminator". But when the skin was pulled off, what was exposed was not steel bones, but bones wrapped in bloody tendons. Large drops of blood dripped down in strings with a crackling sound, and the blood-red tendons twitched and squirmed as if they had life, which was sickening. I was so scared that I almost screamed, but the sound was stuck in my throat and didn't come out.
I instinctively tried to close my eyes, but my eyelids wouldn't work, and I couldn't move them. He moved his bloody, mangled hand, and I was afraid he'd bend it. I knew I couldn't bear the sight of the bloody tendons flexing in that stump; I'd go hysterical. Fortunately, the mutilated hand lifted itself up and reached into the shadow of his face.
"Look at this again," he said.
In an instant, I saw his face clearly, as if a bright light from the sky illuminated it. I saw the skinless hand grasping one cheek, the other grasping the skin on the other. His face was pale, as if it had been submerged in water for too long, losing its elasticity and luster. For some reason, although it bore the same appearance as Xiaoguo, it seemed remarkably artificial, unremarkable. He pulled both of his hands simultaneously. With a hiss, the skin ripped apart, blood splattering everywhere. I screamed, "Ah!" beneath the torn skin, writhing muscles and blood-soaked fascia. Even this blood-soaked face held a sinister expression. I suddenly recognized it as the woman's! She thrust her face towards me, laughing loudly.
"Where's your life? Give it to me!"
I woke up instantly, sweat pouring down my body, my heart pounding. I saw the pale moonlight again, and suddenly I noticed a figure standing over my bed. I screamed like a lunatic, "Get out! Get out! Stay away from me!"
The figure, in Xiaoguo's voice, said aggrievedly, "Hey, it's me. Are you half asleep?"
"Get out! Get out! Or I'll kill you!" I continued to scream.
"Okay, okay, calm down," Xiaoguo said, retreating to another bed, his path disturbing the moonlight. "Tell me what happened, okay?"
"Who are you?"
"I'm Xiaoguo. Can't you even recognize my voice?"
"How do I know if you're real?"
"Hey! What do you mean? Is someone else pretending to be me?"
"Sit on your bed and don't move. Let me think about this. Don't come near me now."
"Okay."
I was completely unprepared. The light flickered on, piercing my eyes. I screamed and quickly closed them. "I'm sorry," Xiaoguo's voice echoed.
"Don't come over here! Don't come over here!" I yelled.
"Okay, okay, I didn't go over there." Xiaoguo's voice came from a few steps away.
I tried to open my eyes. The light was still bright, and it took me a while to adjust. During this time, "Xiaoguo" didn't pounce on me with his fangs and claws bared. I looked at him carefully. Under the midnight light, the color of his skin seemed a little unnatural. Otherwise, his facial features and expression matched Xiaoguo's, but I still couldn't let my guard down and had to be careful.
"Can you tell me now? What happened?" Xiaoguo pleaded, his expression and his voice flawless.
"No, it's hard to explain," I said.
The atmosphere in the room changed almost instantly. The world suddenly became quiet. I watched as a strange expression appeared on his face again. "He" was like a monster that no longer wanted to disguise itself as a human, revealing its true form.
"It's not Wong Kar-wai's 0.01 centimeters, but a few centimeters higher. What does that mean?"
His words broke the stillness, and I suddenly relaxed. I was finally sure I was in a dream, but I still had to protect myself. I grabbed something and threw it, "Get out! Get out now! Get out of my dream right now! You bitch! You bastard!"
I saw that I threw a pillow, which had no lethality, but "Xiaoguo" looked at me in surprise (pretending!) with wide eyes, backing out, and out the door. A wry smile appeared on his face. "Where do you want me to go in the middle of the night?"
"I don't care! Get out of my dream right now!"
He suddenly became serious and said to me sincerely! "This is not a dream, this is reality. I am Xiaoguo, not someone else. I am helping you, not harming you, understand?"
"Don't lie to me."
He smiled bitterly again. "Why would I lie to you? Don't I know I am Xiaoguo?"
"Then how do you know what I dreamed about?"
