Part 1
The name Pipi wasn't given casually.
Only the most mischievous and mischievous frogs could be worthy of such a title.
In Black Dragon Pond, no frog had been called this name for five whole years. For frogs, five years felt like a century.
In Black Dragon Pond, frog names are different. They aren't based on surnames or family lines, nor are they given by parents. Instead, they're given by everyone based on personality. An honest frog is called Laoshibao, a talkative one is called Hualao, a clever one is called Clever Ghost, and a short-tempered one is called Baojiao.
So, if two frogs with similar temperaments are both called Laoshibao, how can they be distinguished?
The difference is the lingering sound at the end of their names.
The one with the longer lingering sound is the older one. Of course, even if they're the same age, they can have different tempers. The difference is also based on the pitch of the sound. Anyway, when you say "Clever Ghost," add a little trill, and every frog in Black Dragon Pond knows who you're talking about, ensuring no confusion.
But Pipi is different.
It doesn't have a trill, so there's no need to distinguish them. At any given time, there's only one frog called this name. If there weren't any particularly mischievous frogs during that period, just slightly mischievous ones, then even if the name was vacant, it wouldn't have been taken.
So, Pipi's name, Pipi, reflects just how mischievous he was.
At noon, while other frogs were either cooling off under lotus leaves or napping in the pond's water holes, Pipi was different. He insisted on climbing a large tree by the pond and diving in.
This disturbed everyone. Sure enough , it was Cranky who first expressed his displeasure.
"Everyone's taking a nap. Can you be quiet for a moment?" Cranky asked.
Pipi swam past him excitedly, not even turning his head.
He climbed the tree, spun around vertically, holding his head, and plunged into the water with a splash.
As Pipi passed Cranky, Cranky raised his objection again , this time a little louder .
Pipi had to respond.
"Why should I be quiet? I'm full of energy. I need to move around," Pipi said.
"But everyone's asleep," Cranky shouted.
"What's it to me if everyone else is sleeping? I don't want to sleep anyway," Pipi said.
Cranky's face flushed.
But he didn't dare take further action. Pipi, that reputation was just for show. Fighting him wouldn't get him anywhere. Cranky, though short-tempered, wasn't stupid.
Clever Ghost was also disturbed; he'd been hoping for a sweet dream that afternoon.
As Pipi jumped down again, Clever Ghost praised him.
"Good dive this time, little splash," Clever Ghost said.
Pipi laughed arrogantly.
"That's nothing. I can do better," he said.
"Of course, of course," Clever Ghost said quickly.
As Pipi was about to swim past Clever Ghost, Clever Ghost spoke again.
"Did you see that green light last night? The green light coming from the Dragon Palace?" Clever Ghost asked.
Near the cliffs of Black Dragon Pond, a mountain peak protruded. Under the waters of Black Dragon Pond, a cave led into the mountain's interior, where a large black snake lived.
The frogs called it the Dragon Palace.
It's unknown when the giant black snake first moved into the Dragon Palace. It must have been a long, long time ago, so long ago that it's impossible to measure. Everyone says the giant black snake is practicing some kind of magic, and only occasionally does it swim out of the Dragon Palace for a stroll. Few frogs have ever seen the giant black snake.
When hungry, the giant black snake calls out, and the frogs, hearing the call, drift off to the Dragon Palace. What happens next is unknown; no frog has ever been seen to leave.
However, the frogs living in the Black Dragon Pond are perfectly content. Aside from the giant black snake, they face no other threat. The giant black snake possesses magical powers, and other predators, like snakes, dare not venture into the Black Dragon Pond. Perhaps the giant black snake needs food, and therefore tolerates the frogs.
With only one giant black snake, there's nothing else to worry about; it's pure paradise. Especially since this giant black snake doesn't seem to have a big appetite, the frogs who answered the call were simply unlucky. That's nothing to worry about; someone always has to be unlucky.
There were always periods when the Big Black Snake wouldn't summon anything. At night, a shimmering green light would flicker in the waters near the Dragon Palace entrance.
Everyone said the Big Black Snake was in retreat, practicing, and the green light was the result of his practice.
No one really knew what was going on, but when the waters glowed green, not even the Big Black Snake would disturb them, allowing everyone to revel in the joy, carefree and carefree.
