FOE Family First Chapter 12 Don’t Waste Your Time
"This Miss Farrell, who is from a wealthy family and whose name is known from her high school, actually came to a rural place like this to be a guidance teacher?" After the two parties were introduced and Otilia left, Tommy Hawke asked Ronnie Williams in surprise, "Unless she went to a crappy college and had nowhere else to go, so she came to a school like this to find a leisurely job and then wait to inherit the family estate."
Mr. Ronnie Williams is a nice guy in the school. In addition to providing guidance and help in university screening, he is also responsible for guiding some student clubs. After Tommy Hawke traveled through time, he was the only top student in the school who occasionally consulted him about university admissions based on his own grades, so the two of them have a pretty close relationship.
Ronnie Williams glanced at Tommy Hawke and said, "Hey, Tommy, it's not your job to criticize a teacher in your heart, and in front of another teacher. Miss Farrell came here to gain work experience in a public institution and prepare for the bar exam. Of course, in her words, she did go to a crappy university. She graduated from Cornell University, and she actually liked Princeton University better, but Princeton University didn't admit her, so she had no choice but to choose Cornell University as a backup school."
"Oh, society is so cruel. As my teacher, Mr. Williams, you could have refused to tell me the truth." Tommy Hawke said with a smirk, exhaling depressedly.
The so-called dream school, matching school, and backup school are three terms that are often mentioned by American high school college application counselors and graduating high school students.
Dream schools refer to those prestigious schools that have been selected by teachers and students and that the students are very satisfied with, but there is a gap between their grades and resumes. If they apply, the possibility of being admitted is very low.
The matching schools are regular universities selected by teachers that match the students’ academic performance and are in line with their future life plans.
A backup school is just like its name. If you perform poorly and are not accepted by the matching schools that you should have been sure of winning, then the few backup schools you choose can ensure that you will not drop out of school and ruin your college dream.
Even though Tommy Hawke scored a perfect five in all six AP courses in his simulations, he did not dare to hope to set Cornell University, a top university ranked 13th in the United States this year, as his dream school.
But this university that was out of his reach was just the backup school mentioned by Miss Farrell, her last choice .
Come to think of it, Princeton University is ranked second among comprehensive universities in the United States this year, second only to Columbia University. It has previously topped the U.S. university rankings for many years. If it is confident that it can become the second most prestigious university in the United States, then it is normal to list Cornell University as a backup school.
"My only hope is that Miss Farrell will not help me select colleges based on her personal experience. I'm worried that she doesn't know anything about this crappy high school and would suggest that I go to Princeton University, her dream university." Tommy Hawke said depressedly, "Goodbye, Mr. Williams. By the way, congratulations to you one last time."
After leaving the office, he attended two required courses according to the schedule, namely American History and Natural Science. After class, he had a cordial conversation with his tutors. Only after both tutors patted him on the shoulders encouragingly and ensured that he had won their favor did Tommy Hawke turn around and say goodbye. He looked tired and walked hurriedly to the classroom where the third elective course was held, ready to study the journalism course.
There is no way. Maintaining a good relationship with teachers in American high schools is also a very important course. After all, if you want to apply to college, in addition to grades, you also need recommendation letters from high school teachers and principals. If the teachers and principals have no impression of you at all, then expect your recommendation letter to be dry and meaningless and be rejected by the university.
As for the psychology distance education course that Dennis and Pam mentioned, it is in the conference room next to the journalism department. However, Tommy Hawke is not interested in it. The distance course is just television teaching. A group of people sit in the conference room and watch the teacher on TV talking to the air. Of course, many students will treat this class as a sleeping class.
This kind of distance education course does not allow for questions to be asked and does not allow for emotional communication between teachers and students, so there is no need for Tommy Hawke to waste precious time today.
He was the first student to arrive in the classroom. Soon after he sat down, other students began to rush in from other classrooms. Some familiar students whispered to each other about the interesting things they had encountered, waiting for the teacher to come and start the class.
Just as the class reminder bell rang and the gray-haired teacher walked into the classroom, ready to start the class, Dennis's voice suddenly rang out from the conference room next door.
Just by listening to the volume, you can tell that guy has turned up the microphone and speaker to the maximum!
"Everyone, you don't know how lucky you are to witness such a significant historical moment since the founding of our school! Pam Marvell and I did all this in five hours! Everyone, our distance education classes will never be boring again!"
His excited words could be heard on almost every floor, making the teachers and students in the classroom look at each other in bewilderment.
The Bishop Journalism teacher walked out of the classroom and headed towards the conference room next door. The students, including Tommy Hawke, also stood up and followed the teacher out.
When the teacher walked into the spacious conference room and saw the images being played on the three televisions, he was shocked and said:
"Oh My God..."
The educational television station's distance learning course that was supposed to appear did not appear on the screen. What was visible was the blue sea, the clean beach, and romantic and soft background music. A hot blonde girl in a bikini was walking out of the sea with her back to the camera, and was walking slowly towards a handsome man with well-defined abdominal muscles, untying her bikini gracefully as she walked.
Dozens of high school students who originally used this remote class as a rest time to catch up on sleep, their eyes lit up, their faces excited, slapping their desks and cheering loudly:
“What the hell!”
"This is a fucking adult show on a pay-per-view channel? Oh, Jesus! She turned around! Look at those...Jesus, Dennis, you are the God of Lincoln High School now!"
"Pam and I did all this in five hours! Everyone, enjoy the real high school course!" Dennis was like a preaching pastor, enjoying the shock and ecstasy of the audience, and said proudly:
"This is a highlight moment for Pam Marvell and me!! It is also our gift back to this school!"
Although Tommy, who traveled through time and was used to seeing all kinds of small movies, thought that this paid program was actually quite boring and uninteresting, as it often played soft-core dramas that only showed the upper body and focused on aesthetics and plot, emphasizing romance but not vulgarity, it was obvious that this level was enough to excite these students.
After all, the Internet had not yet appeared and home computers were not yet popular. It was very difficult for most high school students from ordinary families to watch exciting programs. If they were not careful, their parents would easily find out from the TV bill that they had secretly opened a pay channel to watch porn movies, and then they would be beaten up.
Now they can sit in the classroom and watch it openly, how can they not be excited? The most important thing is that there is a free method! In other words, if they master the method, they can watch movies on the school TV in the future. Is there anything more exciting for students than this?
More and more students came over after hearing the noise. Other teachers and campus security guards also showed up immediately. Security guard Murphy turned off the TV with the remote control and said to the complacent Dennis with a cold face:
"Come with me to the principal's office, Dennis Herbers, you're in big trouble."
Dennis held the microphone and finally shouted loudly: "Praise my name! Guys! This year's Lincoln High School Person of the Year, cast your sacred vote for me! I have brought you a brand new physiology course! Don't worry, no one can stop us from embarking on the road of seeking knowledge! I will publish this method for free!"
Then, with a dignified look, like a brave man about to be executed, he held his head high and saluted to the audience, followed Mr. Murphy out of the classroom, and before leaving, he did not forget to wink in the direction of Tommy and Pam.
The students who stayed in the classroom cheered and applauded loudly to send Dennis off and celebrate Dennis Herbers becoming a strong candidate for Lincoln High School Person of the Year.
"Wow, it looks like you two are the best candidates for this year's Person of the Year. After all, I can't think of anyone else other than you two who would do such a stupid thing as playing porn in the classroom for your classmates, risking psychological counseling, disciplinary talks, or even expulsion." Tommy walked to Pam's side, recovered from his shock, and asked, "How did you do it, Pam?"
Pam pushed her glasses down and said, "We took advantage of the opportunity to earn extra money by mowing Mr. Adams' lawn, dismantled his TV box, and secretly replaced the channel connection card inside."
"Well done. Last time I helped him mow the lawn, he didn't pay me. So, he can't watch porn movies anymore?"
"Until the maintenance guy fixes his TV box, poor Mr. Adams will have to watch New England High School Psychology if he wants to sleep tonight," Pam whispered to Tommy.
Tommy Hawke nodded. "Honestly, I didn't expect this to be a highlight. No wonder Dennis gave ."
"Tommy, before leaving this school, we must leave some legends of our own, in a way that poor students like us can think of." Pam pursed her lips, pondered for a moment, and whispered like a philosopher.
Tommy Hawke exhaled: "I understand that if I can't be remembered in history, I will be remembered in infamy for eternity."
"Yeah, I think, many years from now, I might become a potbellied, bald chef, but at least I can brag to my kids that their father was a high school celebrity of a certain year when he was a teenager. He was like Prometheus, bringing fire to the campus and never wasting his time." Pam, who was usually taciturn, smiled and said seriously to Tommy Hawke.
Tommy also laughed and patted Pam on the shoulder. "Reckless youth. Honestly, Dennis didn't impress me, but your words made me decide to do what a young and frivolous high school student should do. Maybe I should go to the Paradise Club after school and not waste my good time."
