Episode 2 Chapter 018 Can't Sleep
In fact, I didn't really pay attention to the situations that Master Nan mentioned later. When he said them one by one, I just felt a fuzzy, cold feeling seeping out from the soles of my feet and my back little by little, and then spread all over my body with goose bumps.
After saying that, Master Nan just looked at me, motionless. I felt a little uncomfortable being stared at by him, but soon I found that Master Nan's eyes were a little distracted, as if he was not looking at me, but at something else.
I was about to ask something, but Master Nan turned his gaze back to the table and asked me, "Don't I feel that the placement of these cups on the table is a little familiar?" After saying that, Master Nan looked at my mother again. I didn't know what Master Nan was looking at, but when he mentioned it, an image suddenly flashed through my mind, that morning when I woke up and saw the extra cups on the coffee table for no reason.
I was speechless immediately: "This..."
Master Nan then said, “So that’s how it is.”
Master Nan looked like he knew everything, but I saw that he didn't want to say anything. I didn't know what was going on. After sitting for a while, Master Nan said that it was not appropriate to talk about these things today, so he would leave at that. I was caught off guard. I had just arrived and just made a start, so why was he leaving? My mother and father started to get anxious, and Shi Hu winked at me at this time, as if to let me speak to appease my mother and father.
Although I didn't know what was going on, I could sense something fishy. It seemed that there were some things Master Nan couldn't say directly to their faces, so I followed Shi Hu's instructions and comforted my father and mother. Then Master Nan and Shi Hu got up and left, so I saw them off.
There was nothing wrong when we got out of the door. Master Nan and Shi Hu didn't say anything, and then we went all the way to the elevator door. Actually, I was a little hesitant when I got there, but I couldn't ask them to take the stairs with me due to face. So I got in the elevator with gritted teeth. I thought that with Master Nan and the others around, that thing wouldn't happen. But when we reached the seventh floor, the door opened again, and it was the same outside, there was nothing.
Shi Hu and Master Nan looked at me, and Master Nan reached out to close the elevator, and the elevator started to move down again. Master Nan asked me when this started. I knew Master Nan had already seen it, so I replied that it was only a few days ago. After he heard it, I saw him look behind him, and his movements were a bit strange.
It was not until we got out of the elevator and came outside that Master Nan told me that he would not sleep tonight. If he did, something terrifying might happen. I asked why, and Master Nan said to me very seriously, "I told you not to be upset. There is something wrong with your father and mother."
I was shocked and asked what was wrong. Master Nan said that when my mother brought us water, it was not for us. He saw that my mother and father's eyes were a little blurry and unclear, with a layer of film under their eyes, and they were blinded.
I just listened without daring to make a sound. Master Nan said that our family's affairs were too complicated and needed to be done one by one, so he asked me to tell him what happened after my dad and mom came. When I mentioned that my mom was burned by incense, I saw Master Nan's face changed a little, but he didn't say anything, as if he had some concerns. I asked him what was wrong, and to be honest, I was also a little anxious.
At this time Shi Hu told me not to be anxious. The reason why Master Nan didn't say anything was because the current situation was unspeakable. Then he explained to me that Master Nan was afraid of shocking the things in our house. Now this matter cannot be solved for the time being. It would be even worse for us if those things were shocked. This is why Master Nan left immediately without saying anything.
Master Nan looked at me and shook his head slightly, as if to tell me not to ask any more questions. Then I realized, is there something around me that Master Nan is superstitious about, and I can't even talk about it?
After that they arrived at the parking lot. Shi Hu told me that I should not go to work for the next day, and that he would help me deal with it at the company. Master Nan told me not to sleep tonight, and to get a dummy to sleep on the bed. I'd better squat in a corner of the living room and not make any sound. I will know something, and this is the only way for me to know what is happening to me.
Shi Hu and Master Nan did not say when they would come again. Before leaving, Master Nan specifically told me not to take the elevator when I go back, but to go up through the corridor, just in case.
To be honest, the back and forth between Shi Hu and Master Nan made me panic. Moreover, Master Nan repeatedly told me not to sleep tonight, which means that he had anticipated that something might happen tonight. I shuddered just thinking about it.
I walked back along the corridor and nothing special happened. After I got home, my parents asked me what Master Nan said. I answered them that I didn't say anything. My parents were a little disappointed, so I didn't say anything either. Maybe it was because of what Master Nan said, I felt a little uneasy when I looked at my parents. I looked at the coffee table again and saw that the cups had been taken away and washed by my mother.
At night, I did as Master Nan said and did not fall asleep. After my father and mother fell asleep, I stuffed some clothes into the quilt so that it looked like someone was sleeping inside. I put on some thicker clothes myself, then turned off the lights and tiptoed to the living room. I pretended to close the door from the inside and then pulled the door from the outside. Finally, I sat down in the corner next to the sofa which was not very conspicuous.
This kind of lonely silence is the most unbearable. Every minute and every second seems to be infinitely stretched, and the night is meant for sleep. I sit there paying attention to every move in the room, even feeling a little paranoid. Time passes by minute by minute, and I keep looking at my watch. I feel my legs are numb from sitting, but only more than an hour has passed.
Then, I heard the sound of the door opening, and my nerves were tense. I didn't dare to breathe loudly anymore, for fear that I would be discovered because of the loud noise. Then I heard footsteps coming out of my parents' room, and then I saw someone walking out, and it looked like my mother.
I stared at her motionlessly, and saw that after she walked out of the room, she went to the cabinet to get a cup. I heard her getting water from the water dispenser. I breathed a sigh of relief at this time, thinking that she was thirsty and drank water, but when I heard her getting the second glass of water, I felt something was wrong.
After my mother took two glasses of water, she placed them on the coffee table as Shi Hu and Master Nan had done in the evening. Then I saw her sit down again where she had sat in the evening, and just sat there quietly, doing nothing. After about ten minutes, she stood up again, collected the cups of water, and put them back in the cabinet.
I thought that after doing all this, she would go back to sleep, but she didn't. After putting away the cup, my mother walked straight to my room and stood at the door. She stood there for several minutes, and I didn't know what she was doing. Then I heard the sound of the door handle being turned, and she opened the door and went in.
After Lao Ma went in, there was no sound and I couldn't see what was going on in the room. I sat in the corner and wondered what my mother was doing in the room. Then I remembered that several times when things in the room were moved, it was my mother who woke me up. I couldn't help but wonder if it was my mother who did it.
After about ten minutes, my mother came out, and I heard a "click" and she turned on the light. Suddenly the whole living room became brighter. I saw my mother's shadow, and then she came out and closed the door.
After the door was closed, the living room became darker and I could only see a crack at the bottom of the door. I didn't know why my mother turned on the light, and then she went back to her room.
The entire living room became deathly silent again. I sat in the corner and began to feel scared. My eyes were fixed on the bright crack in the room, which was the most eye-catching place in the whole room.
Then, I saw a horizontal bright crack suddenly being covered up, as if something was standing inside the door. My scalp went numb, and my hands and feet felt a little weak. My eyes stared at there motionlessly, not daring to blink.
