Episode 1 Chapter 010 Funeral Home
It was probably in the evening when someone came to our house. We didn’t know this person. It was my mother who opened the door. I was sitting on the sofa and heard him say my name. She asked if this was my home. My mother thought it was someone I knew, so she called me and welcomed the person in. But when I saw this person, I was stunned because I didn’t know him at all.
When he saw me, he said he was from the funeral home and came to see me for something, and he spoke very politely, so I asked him to sit down. My dad and mom didn't know what was going on for a moment. Why would someone from the funeral home come to our house for no reason? As for me, when he said he was from the funeral home, I immediately thought of Old Man Liu, so I couldn't help feeling a little uneasy, but I didn't show it on my face.
After he sat down, I poured him some water. He then said that he was really sorry to bother me so late on the weekend, but he had to come to see me for something, and asked me not to be offended. I smiled and asked him why, and asked him what it was that required him to come in person. But he didn't answer immediately, but asked me back that he heard I lived alone, and while he was talking, he looked at his father and mother.
I explained to him that these were my parents, and he greeted them again. Then I could see that he wanted to talk to me alone about this. Before I could figure out how to ask my parents to step aside, he spoke first and said that he was not alone, and that the director and several colleagues were still downstairs. I asked why they didn't come up, and he said that so many people would disturb us, and that he wanted me to go to the funeral home for something.
As he spoke, he showed an embarrassed look, because he also knew it was so late and it was the weekend, which was a bit inappropriate and abrupt, but since he knew it was inappropriate and still came, he should say it was important. I thought of this and said it was okay, I would go over with them, and told mom and dad to rest assured at home, I would be back soon. Mom and dad heard the word "funeral home" and were naturally worried and uneasy. Mom asked what it was. The man comforted mom and said it was nothing serious, just some things for me to go over to confirm, and told them not to worry.
This man avoided my mother's questioning with a very clever statement. I took a coat and went downstairs with him. It was not until we got in the elevator that he told me again that he was really sorry about this. I told him it was nothing. It was only then that I asked how come even the director came in person. He then told me to try not to ask about these things later. Not only the director, but also other people. When he was talking about other people, his tone suddenly became mysterious and full of hints. Although I didn't understand who he was talking about, I was sure that it was someone important.
Then I asked him if I should drive or go with them, he said I should go with them and they would take me back after they were done, I didn't say anything. When we went downstairs, we saw a black Audi parked downstairs, he said we should take this one, and after we got in, I realized there was a driver inside.
And I saw two cars parked in a row not far ahead, and after we got in, the two cars started, and our car followed. He told me that in order not to attract attention, we would not introduce each one here, and we would meet at the funeral home.
I thought about what he said about not attracting attention, and always felt that the atmosphere at that time was weird, but finally I didn't ask anything until the car arrived at the funeral home. To be honest, this was my first time in this place. When we got here, it was not completely dark yet. There were many trees planted near the funeral home, which made it look even more eerie, and there was a dark forest nearby.
This kind of atmosphere gave people a gloomy feeling before they even entered, let alone at night. I shivered unconsciously. The man next to me saw me and asked if this was your first time in a place like this. I nodded, but then felt that my behavior was a bit rude, so I apologized. He waved his hand and said that I didn't need to be so polite. Except for people like them who work here all day, basically no one is not afraid of such a place.
After that, he just smiled to himself. I didn't say anything more, but asked him why there were so many trees planted next to the funeral home. It wasn't on a mountain, so did the funeral home have to be made to feel like it was in a forest? He smiled and said that it was not the case. He said that I must not have experienced the death of a loved one, otherwise I would know. Then he told me that these were the popular tree burials now, and under each tree was a person's ashes.
It was the first time I heard about tree burial, so I became interested. He told me that tree burial and cemetery are actually not much different, the only difference is that cemetery has tombstones, while tree burial replaces tombstones with trees, which is more environmentally friendly and green.
I said it was a good idea, but it was absolutely impossible to implement it in our place, because the old generation had a wrong concept, they must be buried in peace, if they knew they would be cremated after death, they would definitely have a big fight with you. Of course I didn't say these words, I just thought about it in my heart.
We got out of the car with him at the parking lot in front of the funeral home. For the sake of convenience, I'll call him Director Gao. Director Gao and I got out of the car. The people in the other two cars had already been waiting for us. Director Gao led me over and introduced the director and a few people around him. He then introduced two other people. I don't think these two people looked like they were from the funeral home. They were probably the people Director Gao had told me not to talk or ask questions about. Their attitude was a little cold. After we said hello, Director Gao took us in.
The inside of the funeral home was indeed as eerie as my colleague had described, and as soon as I entered I felt a gust of cold air hitting me in the face. I don't know if it was a psychological effect, but my whole body trembled violently at that moment. Then a thought came to my mind that so many people came to pick me up, so I was quite proud of myself. But when I thought about it again, I felt that something was wrong. I felt like a serious criminal, and was afraid that I would not be caught because of too few people.
In short, before I knew the truth, I had all kinds of wild thoughts. To put it bluntly, I started to feel very nervous. Finally, Director Gao led us to a meeting room and asked us to sit down in a circle. I didn't know what this was going to do. I looked at the others, and they all had tense faces and looked very serious.
Then Director Gao whispered in my ear that he wanted me to come just to confirm with me, and that we would watch a surveillance video later, and asked me to take a closer look, and that he would ask me some questions later, and asked me not to be too nervous, and just to understand the situation. After Director Gao said this, I became even more nervous, because it was not right to be so mysterious, not to mention that he wanted to understand the situation with me.
Except for Director Gao, the others had no expression and spoke very little. I always felt that there was something strange in the way a few people looked at me. I couldn't explain the strangeness, but it made me feel very uncomfortable. I guess this is what others call strange eyes. And later I knew why they called me at this time. It turned out that even on weekends, this group of people didn't have any rest time. They used their time as much as they could. When they called me, it was naturally at this point.
Then someone turned on the projector, and then I saw him open a video file on the computer. There was nothing written on the video file, just a number, and I couldn't see it clearly. Then he opened the video, and as soon as the video opened, a eerie scene popped up. People say that funeral homes are eerie, and this is really not an exaggeration. From the video, it was like watching a horror movie, and there were just a corridor with several doors, and it was at night. Because of the camera imaging, it seemed even more terrifying.
After watching for a while, I felt a little uncomfortable, because this scene was clearly the same as watching a horror movie. To be honest, even some horror movies can't be so eerie and weird. In addition, I have also taken videos myself, and it seems that the images taken by a camera and this kind of camera are really different. If the video taken by the camera at home has such an effect, I probably won't dare to take it again after taking it once.
The video had obviously been edited by cutting out some useless scenes, so the opening was only a few dozen seconds long. I saw one of the doors being opened, and then I saw a pair of hands sticking out of the door, as if they were having difficulty walking or something, and needed to hold on to the door frame to get out.
I was naturally shocked when I saw this scene, because I could roughly see what was written on the door. That was clearly the corpse cold storage room. How could someone come out of it in the middle of the night? So when I saw this, I roughly understood that this should be the surveillance video of Old Man Liu resurrecting from the dead that my colleague told me about, which was taken in the middle of the night.
Thinking of this, I dared not even breathe, and stared at the screen motionlessly, afraid of missing anything. But the next moment another thought flashed through my mind. This is not right. When Old Man Liu was transported here, his whole body was already rotten beyond recognition. He was even wrapped in bags and refrigerated. Now a pair of hands suddenly stretched out. How could this be Old Man Liu's, unless Old Man Liu grew flesh and skin again, but how is this possible.
Thinking of this, I suddenly felt that something was wrong. I secretly glanced at the expressions of other people. They seemed to have seen it many times and looked very calm. When I looked over, my gaze met that of another person, which made me feel embarrassed. So I looked away and looked at the screen again. I felt that it was becoming difficult to breathe.
What happened next was that I really saw a man walking out of the cold storage room, but his steps were unsteady, as if he could hardly stand steadily. At first I just watched him motionlessly, but soon I heard Director Gao whisper in my ear, asking me to take a good look at this man to see if I recognized who he was.
If Director Gao hadn't said anything, I really wouldn't have paid attention. As this person kept approaching the camera, the video was suddenly paused, and then there was a zoomed-in picture. Although the picture became more and more blurry as it was zoomed in, I was really scared after seeing this zoomed-in picture. I looked at the person on the screen, and an ominous feeling gradually filled my mind, and the collision became more and more intense, because why did the person in the picture look so much like me!
At this point, I was a little restless, and the video didn't continue here. I saw everyone's eyes were on me, as if they were waiting for my answer. I swallowed, and my mind went blank. I had no idea what was going on or how I was going to say it. Then I heard a loud voice asking me, do I remember when I was here?
