Chapter 98: What I Saw (I)
Taunggyi city area.
Hundreds of laborers worked hard to build a road under the scorching sun.
Fang Xinwu, who drove an off-road vehicle from a small road, and two local guys looked curiously at the construction site not far away.
Along the way, they saw so many roads under construction that the entire Shan State seemed to have turned into a large construction site.
Fang Xinwu had a feeling of time and space confusion, as if he had returned to the hometown he had been missing for a long time.
After the Mekong River incident, he did not return to China but continued to stay in the Golden Triangle.
Although Naukan and the bastard who killed his girlfriend were both tried, Fang Xinwu did not feel relieved. Instead, he felt empty and confused, so he chose to continue his mission in the Golden Triangle.
This time, he set his sights on the Wolf Spider Gang that replaced the Leech Gang.
What puzzled him was that although the Wolf Spider Gang was involved in smuggling, they had touched the flour business. Now they had even started a labor introduction company, organizing local farmers to come out to work.
However, Fang Xinwu did not trust this kind of gang. He did not think that they had retired from the underworld and were hiding their flour business in a more covert place.
Fang Xinwu, who failed to find out anything in the Golden Triangle, shifted his target to the Taunggyi Basin.
As the largest city in the Shan Plateau, it is actually worse than a small county town in China. This was Fang Xinwu's first impression after entering the city.
But soon he encountered a situation.
A group of soldiers wearing bulletproof vests and helmets stopped his car. He took a look at their uniforms and found them unfamiliar. They did not look like the Burmese soldiers he had met before.
A soldier who looked like a squad leader saluted , "Hello, we are from the Taunggyi Internal Security. Please show your ID and cooperate with the inspection."
"OK..." Fang Xinwu raised his hands to show that he was not doing anything tricky. After all, the opponent's assault rifle was aimed at the inside of the car. If he moved around and was mistaken for resistance, he would be in real trouble.
The team leader opened the car door and waved his hand to Fang Xinwu and the other two, and they quickly got out of the car.
"Search it and see if there's any contraband."
"Okay, Captain." Several internal security soldiers replied weakly.
The team leader angrily scolded his men: "Didn't you eat? Don't embarrass the general."
The reason why these soldiers are listless is mainly because everything is now regularized.
These people who were eliminated from the regular army thought they could be free after they were transferred to local internal security. However, they were disappointed because the people in charge of managing them were a group of stubborn guys.
In fact, they didn't know that a large part of these stubborn guys were soldiers. Of course, in order to prevent some soldiers from being recognized by acquaintances, the Internal Affairs Department uniformly made minor adjustments to the appearance of these soldiers.
Faced with such a superior, these old hands naturally feel unmotivated because there is no benefit to be gained.
Fang Xinwu took out his ID card and passport from his pocket, as well as 50,000 Myanmar Kyats and handed them to the team leader. The team leader just took a look at his ID card and passport , and instantly confirmed the other party's identity through the database in the biochip.
The team leader took out 1,500 Myanmar Kyats, three temporary passes and a letter of guarantee: "Sign and fingerprint."
Fang Xinwu quickly signed and put his fingerprints on it.
After putting away the guarantee letter, the team leader stuffed the remaining money and documents to Fang Xinwu and said, "Now that you are here, behave yourself and don't cause any trouble. Keep your pistol safe. If you encounter any trouble, go to the nearby internal security station for help. Come on!"
"Uh..." Fang Xinwu was a little confused as it was the first time he encountered a soldier returning money.
But he soon came to his senses, drove an off-road vehicle, and took his two younger brothers into the city.
If the first impression of this place is, it is old, dilapidated and small.
The second impression Fang Xinwu had was order.
From time to time, you can encounter fully armed security soldiers patrolling the streets, and all the shops on both sides of the street are doing business indoors, without the chaotic scene of businesses occupying the road like in other cities.
After driving for more than ten minutes, we finally saw a relatively decent hotel. The sign read "Jade Hotel" in Chinese and Burmese. It was obviously a hotel run by a Chinese.
As soon as the car stopped, a waiter ran over and knocked on the window: "Sir, do you want to stay at the hotel?"
"Yes." Fang Xinwu nodded.
The waiter quickly explained: "Then please park your car in the hotel's parking lot. Long-term roadside parking is not allowed here. If you park for more than half an hour, you will be fined."
Fang Xinwu has been in Hongsavadi for so many years, but this is the first time he has encountered such a thing. He exclaimed in his heart that strange things happen every year, but there are especially many this year.
He could only follow the waiter and drive the SUV to the parking lot behind the hotel. In fact, having a parking lot made Fang Xinwu feel more at ease. After all, the theft here is very serious.
Stop the car.
As Fang Xinwu walked, he jokingly asked the waiter, "Dongzhi has changed a lot! I can hardly recognize him."
The waiter smiled and said, "Haha, it's all because of General Maunggu who takes care of us. I heard that the general went to Pyinmana to be the minister and he wants to modernize it."
Modernization? What a familiar yet strange word! Fang Xinwu thought with mixed feelings.
"Brother Fang, what is modernization?" asked the younger brother Mao Heshui.
"That is..." Fang Xinwu thought for a moment and gave an example of a city that he was more familiar with: "It will become a city like Bangkok."
"Like in Bangkok? Is that possible?" Mao Heshui looked unconvinced.
The waiter was full of hope: "Our manager said that as long as we persevere, we may succeed."
Mao Heshui shrugged without comment.
But Fang Xinwu saw something different.
That is not a material change, but a spiritual one.
It seemed as if there was a ray of hope flickering in the waiter's eyes.
He did not laugh at the other person. At least the other person was a person with dreams, not a zombie-like body.
After checking in, he brought his two younger brothers to the restaurant on the second floor of the hotel and chose a seat by the window where they could see the busy street.
Soon the waiter came over with the food.
A big bowl of Yangzhou fried rice, Kung Pao chicken and three complimentary bottles of Aoba Cola.
Although the chef learned from the chef at Bilibili, the taste is still good, at least better than General Tso’s Chicken or Li Hongzhang’s Offal.
Anyway, Fang Xinwu has never eaten authentic Yangzhou fried rice and Kung Pao chicken.
Just took a sip of Green Leaf Cola.
Meanwhile, Mao Heshui, who was standing by, drank a bottle of Coke in two or three gulps: "Burp... Waiter, another one..." He then looked at Fang Xinwu and the other man and said, "Three more bottles of Coke."
"Okay, please wait." The waiter came over and wrote three more bottles of Coke on the receipt.
At first, Fang Xinwu thought that not many people came to the hotel to eat, but as lunch time approached, many people in construction workers' uniforms appeared in the restaurant in groups of three or five.
This surprised him greatly.
Although the restaurant prices in this hotel are not high, the income of local construction workers is also quite low.
He soon discovered the trick because many construction workers had coupons in their hands.
In addition to the construction workers, there were many other people who came to eat with coupons.
Fang Xinwu slowed down his eating speed and listened carefully to the workers' conversation.
