Chapter 98: Begins to Beat Yao Mei
Wei Wuxian took Wen Ning and headed straight for the Guanyin Temple in the city. He and Lan Wangji explored a road during the day, and planned to come back at night to investigate carefully and crack the formation in the temple to see what was suppressed and whether it could help in dealing with Jin Guangyao. However, he slept until the evening hour, and when he woke up, something happened, so the plan was ruined. At this time, Wei Wuxian was unhappy all over, and he happened to find Jin Guangyao, a dark spot, to take advantage of him.
It was late at night, and the lights in every house were off. The gates of the Guanyin Temple were also closed. From outside the high wall, the courtyard was also dark. But Wei Wuxian took two steps to climb the wall, and before he reached the eaves, he suddenly stopped and thought to himself, "No."
Wen Ning also froze and whispered, "Set a boundary."
Wei WuXian made a gesture, and the two of them landed silently, left the gate, and went to a corner at the back of the Guanyin Temple. They climbed up the wall carefully, hid behind a statue, and then looked into the courtyard.
Upon seeing this, both of them were stunned.
The Guanyin Temple was brightly lit and filled with people. Half were monks, and the other half were monks wearing gold star snow wave robes. The two groups of people stood mixed together, all holding bows and arrows, and swords in their hands, as if they were guarding something, ready to fight, and occasionally talking in low voices. However, because the Guanyin Temple was surrounded by special barriers to hide people's ears, from the streets outside the high walls, the Guanyin Temple seemed to be pitch black and silent, and the lights, fires, and voices inside could not be heard.
But what shocked Wei Wuxian was not the barrier, nor the cultivators and fake monks, but the man in white standing in the center of the courtyard.
Lan Xichen.
Lan Xichen was not tied up or restrained in any way, even his sword and flute Liebing were worn at his waist. He stood peacefully among the crowd, and these monks and cultivators were respectful to him, and even nodded in agreement.
Wei WuXian observed for a while, then whispered to Wen Ning, “Go back to the inn and bring HanGuang-Jun here right away!”
Wen Ning nodded and disappeared immediately. Wei Wuxian didn't see Jin Guangyao, and didn't know if he had come, or if the Yin Tiger Talisman was in his hand. After a moment's thought, he bit his finger and put the bleeding fingertip to the opening of the Soul Locking Bag on his waist. He wanted to lure a few little ghosts to help him summon some evil things quietly. Who knew that at this moment, a dog barking sound came from the end of the long street outside the Guanyin Temple.
Wei Wuxian was so frightened that his soul flew away.
He almost resisted the urge to soar into the sky with all his might, trembling as he hugged the eaves beast on the wall. Hearing the barking of the dog getting closer and closer, he was filled with fear and couldn't help but say in his heart: "Help, Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan, help!"
After reading it, he seemed to have gained some courage from the name, and shivered to force himself to calm down. Wei Wuxian hoped that the dog was a stray dog and would get out of here quickly, but the weather was not good. A clear young man's voice sounded among the barking dogs, scolding: "Fairy, shut up! Do you want to wake up everyone on the street in the middle of the night?!"
Jin Ling!
Lan Xichen's expression froze. Most of the Lanling Jin Clan's cultivators could recognize the voice of the young master, Jin Ling. They exchanged glances and drew their bows. Jin Ling's voice came very quickly. Soon he was outside the gate of the Guanyin Temple and said, "Hush! Hush! If you ask me to stew you again!... Where are you taking me?"
Wei WuXian's heart was in suspense: "Jin Ling, you unlucky child, hurry up and leave!!!"
But Jin Ling stopped outside the Guanyin Temple. The fairy kept crying and seemed to be running around, digging at the soil and walls. Jin Ling asked curiously, "Is it here?"
After a moment of silence, he actually knocked on the door and said, "Is anyone there?"
In the courtyard, all the cultivators held their breath, their arrows on the string, aiming at the gate but not shooting, as if waiting for instructions. Lan Xichen whispered, "Don't hurt him!"
His voice could not be heard through the barrier of the Guanyin Temple, and the others did not relax their vigilance or put down their bows and arrows. Jin Ling seemed to have sensed something was wrong. Even if there was no night watchman in the temple, he had knocked on the door so loudly that it would have woken up those who were sleeping. There shouldn't be no sound at all. So, he stopped talking outside the door. Before Wei Wuxian could breathe a sigh of relief, suddenly, there was another round of barking outside the wall. Jin Ling shouted angrily, "Hey, why are you running back again?!"
Wei Wuxian was overjoyed: "What a fairy!!!"
Jin Ling said: "Fairy! Come back! Damn it!"
Wei WuXian thought to himself: “Little Ancestor, please hurry up and leave with it!!! Please!!!”
Unexpectedly, a moment later, there was a barely perceptible rustling sound of gray stones falling. Wei Wuxian hadn't figured out what the noise was, but in a moment, he suddenly broke out in a cold sweat: "Oh no, this kid is climbing the wall!"
Over there, Jin Ling saw a yard full of bows and arrows pointed at him, and his pupils shrank suddenly. A monk, who had probably never seen Jin Ling before, or was determined to silence all intruders, let go and shot an arrow, which whistled towards Jin Ling!
Hearing the sharp sound of breaking wind, Wei Wuxian knew that the archer was an expert. If Jin Ling was hit by this arrow, his chest would be pierced through. He only had one thing at hand that could immediately block it. In a hurry, Wei Wuxian jumped onto the top of the wall, threw it with his hands, and shouted at the same time: "Jin Ling, run!"
What he threw out was the bamboo flute that he had been carrying with him since his rebirth. The arrow was blocked by it and deviated from its direction, breaking into pieces. Jin Ling's figure disappeared over the wall, he must have escaped. But now Wei Wuxian's hiding place was exposed, hundreds of arrows rained down like a torrential rain, crackling and shooting the eaves beast that Wei Wuxian used to hide himself into a hedgehog. Wei Wuxian thought it was a close call, none of these people had bad archery skills, their cultivation must be good too, it was still a question whether Jin Ling could escape successfully. He jumped down from the wall, pinched his fingers into a circle and was about to blow the whistle, when a voice suddenly sounded behind him, laughing: "I advise Master Wei not to do it. It's okay if the flute is cracked, but it would be sad if your fingers or tongue were gone."
Wei WuXian immediately stopped and agreed, “What you said makes sense.”
The man said, "Please?"
Wei WuXian nodded and said, “Master Jin, you are too polite.”
Jin Guangyao smiled and said, "It should be."
They made a long detour as if nothing had happened and walked to the Guanyin Temple. Wei Wuxian was speechless for a while.
The gate of the Guanyin Temple had been opened. As expected, Jin Ling did not escape. He was pointed at by several monks with swords. He looked at them and hesitated for a moment before calling out, "Uncle."
Jin Guangyao said: "Hello, A-Ling."
