Chapter 91: Tidal Seepage
This series of strange events that could not be explained by common sense began with the giant eye stone pillar that Ke Lan saw underwater. Unexpectedly, he would encounter this thing again in the dead end of this underground maze.
But at least it can explain why there is a picture of this thing in Collins' notes... He should have seen this stone pillar in the cave, not in the underwater city.
But why did this stone pillar appear here? Could it be that there is a city right below this deserted island?
Or... is that abyss hatchery right under this deserted island?
So where the hell is this deserted island?
Ke Lan was basically certain that he had "traveled" at least once, and there were only two points at which the "travel" was most likely to occur - one was when he first saw the giant eye stone pillar, and the other was after he fell to the bottom of the sea and passed out...
No matter which node it is, in short, he should be quite far away from the anchor point of the Pioneer icebreaker.
"I hope it's a time travel on the spatial level... this way at least there's a chance to go back..." Ke Lan muttered to himself. If even time has changed, then things will be serious.
Ke Lan glanced at the stone pillar again - to be honest, in the dark tunnel, there was always an eye emitting a faint green light staring at him, which made him feel a little creepy all over - although Ke Lan knew that this thing was just a statue, the uncomfortable feeling never went away.
He simply drew out his dagger, walked up to the statue, and pried off the glowing mineral.
This piece of ore is about the size of a rugby ball, oval in shape, and has a somewhat rough surface. Judging from its weight, its density should be similar to that of common grade 30 iron ore.
Ke Lan held the ore in both hands. Even through the thick gloves, he could still feel a slight tingling and numbness in his palms, which meant that the ore had a high radiation dose - stones that can glow on their own are mostly radioactive minerals. Before taking action, Ke Lan had already taken a double dose of anti-radiation drugs and also put on a protective suit found in the camp of the 776 Special Forces Team.
“Gurgle, rumble…”
"Hmm? What's that sound?" Ke Lan immediately pressed his body against the wall of the cave, holding his breath and standing still, not moving at all.
“Gurgle, rumble…”
When this strange sound came again, Ke Lan instantly locked the direction of the sound source - it was the giant eye stone pillar!
I saw that the giant eye that I had dug out the "pupil" of was left with only a dark pupil, and the voice came from this "pupil".
"Did some mechanism get triggered?" Ke Lan looked around but didn't find anything unusual.
“Gurgle, rumble…”
"Huh? Could it be..." He suddenly felt that the sound was very much like the sound of rushing water flowing through a water pipe, causing the pipe to vibrate... But how could there be a water pipe in this place?
His eyes involuntarily moved to the stone pillar: "Could it be... that this stone pillar is a water pipe...?"
“Gurgle, rumble…”
The sound came from underground, from far away to near... In less than ten seconds, black sea water flowed out from the "pupil" of the stone pillar.
The water flow was not large, but the seawater was not only pouring out from this hole - at this moment, the entire cave's ground and walls, wherever there were cracks, were leaking water... Just like a tide coming, the water level had already submerged Ke Lan's feet.
"…Is this cave leaking due to disrepair?!" Ke Lan ran back quickly. He didn't have any breathing apparatus on him. If the entire cave was filled with sea water, he would be drowned!
[PS I am not feeling well today, so I can only write half a chapter. I am very sorry and hope you can understand.]
