Chapter 9: Striving to Find a Gap of Hope 03
After saying goodbye to his boss, he took out his cell phone from his pocket to check the time, but found several missed calls from Ju Chenxi on the screen.
I was just about to call Ju Chenxi back, but my phone suddenly stopped working and turned itself off.
I had no choice but to go to the place we had agreed to meet. There was a boutique on the corner of the alley opposite. Sometimes I would go there for a stroll after get off work. I didn’t buy anything, but I would feel happy just by seeing those beautiful and lovely things.
When I rushed over, the owner was closing the shop. There were only the owner and I, our infinitely elongated figures, at the door of the shop.
So I asked the shop owner: "Did you see a boy here just now?"
The shop owner thought for a moment and replied, "I did see a boy standing at the door just now. He looked like he was waiting for someone. He was still there when I looked just now. I don't know where he has gone now."
I felt filled with guilt, and I didn't know how long Ju Chenxi had been waiting here.
I hurriedly said thank you and started looking for Ju Chenxi everywhere, but after I searched the entire alley, I still couldn't find him.
When I returned to the store again, the owner had already gone back.
I waited at the door for a while, but Ju Chenxi still didn't show up. I thought he might have gone home, so I decided to go back too.
The lights were bright all the way. When I reached the corner of the alley near my home, I saw a few gangsters leaning against the railings smoking. But if I wanted to go home, I had to pass this road, so I gritted my teeth and walked over.
Originally there was a wide road next to them, but when I walked over, those gangsters suddenly stood in the middle of the road, blocking all the way.
One of them, who seemed to be the leader of the gang, threw the cigarette butt in his hand to the ground and stepped on it.
In fact, they don't look much older than me.
"Please move aside, I want to pass." I said a little timidly.
"No problem, but since we let you through, you have to give us something in return."
"You didn't build this road, why should I reward you?"
"We are here to protect your safety late at night, you have to give us some protection money. At the very least, give us some money for cigarettes."
Then I realized that they wanted money. I knew I couldn't beat them, so I had to give them the money.
I searched my pockets and found that I only had a small amount of change. I sorted the change and found that there was only a little over ten yuan in total.
I handed the money to the gang leader and said to him, " This is all I have. I'll give it all to you. Now you can let me go."
He looked at my money with disdain but didn't even take it.
Several people nearby cursed: "We waited so long, and here comes a poor fellow."
Another person sarcastically joked: "Sister, you gave us this little money so that we can buy cigarette butts, right?"
I shrugged. “That’s all I have.”
Someone said to the gang leader, "Li Kai, what should we do?"
Li Kai looked at me and said expressionlessly: "I don't believe you only have this little money when you go out. You must have other valuables on you."
I unconsciously held my phone tightly, which was probably the most valuable thing I had.
He noticed my movements, and then noticed my phone, and said frivolously, "Hand over your phone."
I quickly thought of a way out and shouted into the air, "Dad, why are you here?"
When they all turned around to look, I ran away. I originally thought that if I ran, they would definitely give up. Unexpectedly, after they found out that I had tricked them, they all chased after me. I ran with all my strength, but they all ran faster than me.
Their shadows were getting closer and closer to me.
I just ran forward as fast as I could. I accidentally bumped into someone's arms. I thought he was one of those thugs, and I thought to myself, it's over, I'm definitely dead now.
I looked up and found that the person standing in front of me was the one I had been thinking about day and night, Ju Chenxi. I was so excited that I almost cried.
At this time, the hooligans had already caught up with me. Ju Chenxi quickly protected me behind him and said to them with disdain: "A few grown boys chasing after a little girl, how shameless!"
I looked at Ju Chenxi infatuatedly and remembered that he was also so mean when we first met.
The thugs looked at each other, totally confused as to where Ju Chenxi came from.
Li Kai walked to the front, glanced at Ju Chenxi, and actually laughed out loud, then said mockingly: "You are such an ignorant fellow, you want to be a hero and save the damsel in distress, but you don't even know how capable you are."
The hooligans nearby echoed: "This is a hero saving a beautiful girl, but this is just a bear saving an ugly girl."
This sentence immediately irritated Ju Chenxi, and he angrily shouted at the hooligans who spoke: "Who are you calling ugly? Why don't you take a piss and look at yourself? You are so ugly that you pollute the environment, and you are still criticizing others."
I was shocked when I heard him say this. He didn't care at all if people said he was a bear, but he cared a lot if people said I was ugly.
The moment I didn't notice, Ju Chenxi suddenly stretched out his fist and punched the gangster.
"Remember to keep your mouth clean next time."
At this time, the rest of the people all rushed up and started to beat Ju Chenxi. Ju Chenxi seemed to have learned a little karate. Although they attacked together, they did not gain any advantage. Instead, they were hit in the vital parts by Ju Chenxi.
Li Kai wiped the non-existent blood from the corner of his mouth and cursed, "Damn it."
Then he started looking around. At first I didn't know what he was doing, but later I realized he was looking for a weapon.
Finally, he found an iron rod next to the trash can.
I was afraid that he would use the iron rod to attack Ju Chenxi, so I quickly ran over and stretched out my hand to block him.
He looked at me angrily and said fiercely, "Get out of the way."
I didn't say anything, just stretched out my arms to block it.
A terrifying sneer suddenly appeared on his face: "You don't think I'm the kind of gentleman who doesn't hit women."
I made a "Puh" sound in my heart and cursed quietly, I don't think you are a gentleman.
I also knew that he might hit me, but I didn’t want Ju Chenxi to get hurt, so I rushed over involuntarily.
Seeing that I didn't move away, Li Kai raised the iron rod to scare me. I could see that he was just pretending to hit me. At this time, Ju Chenxi, who was far away, saw this scene and thought that Li Kai was really going to hit me.
He rushed over to protect me and mocked Li Kai, "Coward, come at me if you have the guts."
This sentence easily angered Li Kai, and he hit me with the iron rod with great force. Just when the iron rod was about to hit me, Ju Chenxi turned around and completely protected me in his arms.
The moment he turned around, the iron rod hit him on the head.
But he actually looked at me and smiled, saying caringly: "I'm glad you're okay."
All of a sudden, he fell down with all his weight on me, and I supported him and let him lie on my legs.
I didn't know what was going on, I was just very worried, and my tears kept flowing down like beads from a broken string.
Blood was constantly oozing out of Ju Chenxi's head. I saw him looking at me in a daze. I cried and said, "Ju Chenxi, what should I do? Your head is bleeding."
He replied weakly: "Silly girl, it's okay, as long as you are okay."
When the gangsters saw what was happening, they were at a loss as to what to do. They quickly asked Li Kai, "Li Kai, what should we do?"
It seemed like this was the first time that Li Kai encountered such a situation, and he was completely shocked.
Finally, he angrily cursed, "Damn it, it's so unlucky, why don't you run away and wait to be caught by the police."
After Li Kai said this, those people all ran away.
My cell phone was out of battery, and Ju Chenxi's cell phone was smashed to pieces during the fight. He was in this state now, so I didn't dare to just leave him on the ground. I didn't know what else I could do except cry.
This road is a little remote, and there are usually very few people passing by. I can only pray in my heart, hoping that someone can pass by here and save Ju Chenxi. If he can't get better, I don't know how I will get through the rest of my life.
