Chapter 87: A Mistake

Manbao and three other men surrounded Bai Erlang and stared at him.
Bai Erlang finally couldn't stand it anymore under the stares of four pairs of eyes. He yelled back with a red face, "Why are you looking at me? I always took the bus to get there before. I've never walked on this road before, so how would I know how to get there?"
Zhou Wulang couldn't help but grit his teeth, thinking that this kid was really wasting time.
But Manbao actually thought what he said made sense, but she was still very angry that he concealed the truth, "If you had told us earlier, we wouldn't have gone through so much trouble."
"That's right." Bai Shanbao was also very angry and pushed him, "You evil bastard!"
Bai Erlang was so angry that his face turned red. He stretched out his hand to push him back and shouted angrily: "You have people carrying you, so you are not tired at all. I am the one who has been walking all the time. I am so young, but you all bully me! Humph, I didn't hurt you, I hurt myself."
Manbao was stunned and looked at him with sympathy, "How can you be so stupid that you even hurt yourself."
Bai Shanbao: "No wonder your uncle said you were mentally ill and asked me to take care of you in the future. It turns out you really are mentally ill."
Bai Erlang was stunned for a moment, then he burst into tears, sat down on the ground and refused to move anymore.
Zhou Wulang and Zhou Liulang, who were originally angry, felt very sympathetic towards him and thought that Manbao and Young Master Bai had dealt him too great a blow.
Considering that the other person was younger than their nephew, the two of them coaxed him reluctantly, "Okay, stop crying. Although you took the wrong road, we didn't say we would beat you. You should find a way to go back."
Bai Erlang sobbed and cried, "I, I won't, I can't walk anymore, I won't walk anymore..."
Zhou Wulang looked around, dragged him to the shade of a tree, and asked everyone to sit down, "Sit down and take a rest, you are really tired."
Bai Erlang gradually stopped crying, rubbed his calves, and said, "I want to go home. I want to take a car."
Zhou Wulang and Zhou Liulang looked at each other, both of them had a headache, so they persuaded Manbao again, "If you don't know the way, you won't be able to find your third brother today. Let's go home first and come back tomorrow."
Manbao responded with his head hung.
But everyone didn't move for a while, and planned to sit down and rest for a while.
Manbao and Bai Shanbao, who had been carried on the back for the second half of the journey, were in particularly good spirits. They could not sit still and began to look around. When they saw a butterfly resting on a wild flower nearby, their little eyes lit up and they began to tiptoe to catch the butterfly.
Zhou Wulang didn't stop him since the person was right under his nose.
Manbao tried to pounce but missed. The butterfly flapped its wings and flew to the side. Bai Shanbao, who was ready to pounce, quickly stretched out his hand and grabbed it in an instant.
The two children cheered and started pinching the butterfly's wings to see how beautiful they were.
Manbao was very excited to catch more, so he slowly walked away with Bai Shanbao. As they walked, they saw someone carrying a hoe and walking towards them.
The two of them's eyes lit up, and they ran up to him without fear of strangers. Manbao was the first to say, "Hello, big brother."
Bai Shanbao was a step slower, "Hello, uncle."
The two people addressed each other in completely different ways, and then without waiting for the person in front of them to speak, the two children glared at each other.
Manbao said, "You call me old."
Bai Shanbao said: "You are rude, he is obviously your uncle."
The farmer was startled by the two children who suddenly appeared . "Whose children are you and why are you here? Aren't you afraid of being caught by a wolf?"
When Zhou Wulang and Zhou Liulang heard the noise, they quickly crawled out from under the shade of the tree and ran over.
Seeing that there were still two young boys, the farmer was relieved and scolded them: "Why did you bring your brother and sister to play here? You don't look down on them. There are wolves and big tigers in this mountain. Be careful not to be taken away by wolves."
Zhou Wulang was also a little scared. He grabbed Manbao by the back of his collar and said, "You're running around again."
Manbao twisted his body and said, "I'm here to ask for directions, brother, do you know how to get to Baimaguan Town?"
"Call me uncle," the farmer was speechless when a child who was almost as old as his daughter called him brother. He said, "You want to go to Baimaquan Town. Turn right in front of you. That's the official road. Go straight and you'll arrive in more than three quarters of an hour."
Manbao exclaimed, "It turns out we didn't take the wrong road."
She apologized to Bai Jilang, "We wronged you."
Bai Erlang, whose eyes were red from crying, became proud and said, "I said I didn't make a mistake. It takes a long time to get from our village to the town by car, and it takes even longer to walk."
Zhou Wulang was very skeptical. Although he had not been to Baimaquan Town very often, he had often heard his brothers mention that it was faster to get to Baimaquan Town from the village than to the county town.
If I had taken the right road, how come I haven’t arrived yet?
So he asked the farmer, "Brother, is this the same road we take to get from Qili Village to Baimaquan Town?"
The farmer was about to leave, but he stopped when he heard this and looked at them as if they were idiots. "You came from Qili Village, so how did you get here? If you turn right at the first fork in the road from your village, you will reach Baimaquan Town. If you go this way, you will end up on the other side of the town entrance, which means you have to travel half the distance for nothing."
Everyone turned to look at Bai Jilang again.
Bai Erlang lowered his head and said nothing.
The farmer guessed that the children didn't know the way and were wandering around making a fuss, so he asked with a smile, "Where are you going?"
Manbao immediately told them that they were going to look for his third brother who was serving in the army.
The farmer exclaimed, "They are serving in the army. I remember there are some serving soldiers on the official road ahead. They seem to be from Qili Village and Dali Village."
Everyone's eyes lit up. They didn't expect their luck to be so good. This was a ray of hope.
So the five of them said goodbye to the farmer and ran forward screaming.
Manbao didn't need anyone to carry her. She just ran forward with her own short legs. She was very energetic and ran very fast. Zhou Wulang almost couldn't catch up with her.
Bai Erlang also became happy and no longer felt tired, and he continued running forward.
After running through this section of road, there are farmlands on the right and woods on the left. When we run to the end, we see a wide dirt road.
Manbao rushed onto the big dirt road, looked left and right, and then ran to the left.
The big brother just said that they are on the official road on the left.
Zhou Wulang chased after her, grabbed her, and carried her on his back, "Be quiet, or my parents will beat me when I get home if you fall."
Zhou Wulang carried Manbao on his back and led everyone along the official road.
There was no one on the official road, let alone any cars, and the road was full of potholes, not much better than the small dirt road just now.
After they walked forward for a while, they heard some laughing sounds. They ran forward and saw many people wielding hoes and tilling the ground on both sides of the official road. All of them were covered in dust and dirt, and they were all wearing similar grey cloth clothes. They looked the same and it was impossible to tell who was who at first glance.
But Manbao didn't care. He closed his eyes and shouted, "Third Brother..."
In the crowd, Zhou Sanlang, who was busy shoveling mud, thought he was hallucinating and seemed to hear Manbao's cry.
