Chapter 81: The Corpse Farm Outside Chang'an City
On the eastern outskirts of Chang'an, there is a large barren wilderness.
This place belongs to the suburbs of Chang'an City and is a piece of land waiting to be developed. In recent years, the country has vigorously developed real estate and adopted a policy of surrounding the countryside from the city, with demolition and construction extending from the urban area to the suburbs.
This area belongs to the eastern suburbs of Chang'an. It used to be a vast wilderness with no one living there. Logically speaking, it is not too far from Chang'an. Even if a factory cannot be built here, at least it can be used for farming. It would be a pity to let it be abandoned for no reason.
However, the older generation in Chang'an City all know that this place is not peaceful and clean. If the old man said so, there is only one possibility, that there may be dirt here.
It is said that around 1995, a Taiwanese businessman came to Chang'an to invest and took a fancy to the land of Dayedi in the eastern suburbs. After negotiating with the authorities, he quickly acquired the land. So in the early spring, he broke ground to build a factory. Not long after, the materials were delivered and the construction workers began to move in. But in the second week of construction, a strange thing happened.
At that time, they were supposed to dig the foundation. When the foundation was about three or four meters deep, they unexpectedly dug out a pile of scattered bones. The workers were shocked at the time and the construction company quickly called the police. After the police arrived, they cordoned off the scene and dug out all the bones. There were about five or six bones scattered around, and you could even clearly see knife and gunshot wounds on these bones. Later, after investigation and forensic examination, the police realized that this pile of bones might have a history of several decades and had been buried underground before the founding of the People's Republic of China. The initial judgment was that it might be the sin of the R countrymen back then. In that chaotic era, the dead were basically thrown away at random.
Since it was a historical issue and not a criminal case, this episode was quickly put behind them and the construction party continued to work. However, they did not expect that just one day later, when they were laying the foundation again, an accident occurred. A worker dug out a tattered straw mat from the ground, and there was a corpse wrapped in the mat. What was even more surprising was that the corpse in the straw mat had not decayed at all, and was wearing very worn and old clothes.
When the body was dug out, the workers were shocked. When the police arrived, they were also stunned. Digging out bones could be explained, but digging out a body was no small matter. Moreover, the body was preserved very intact, and even the face could be seen clearly.
An elderly person who lives near the eastern suburbs came to watch the fun and said that this place used to be a mass grave. At that time, you could still see a dozen graves scattered around. Later, for some unknown reason, all the graves disappeared. But no one nearby dared to pass by this area at night.
After that, there was nothing else.
The Taiwanese businessmen withdrew their capital and left quietly, the construction site was completely stopped, and this place became a vast wasteland again.
However, some people nearby once saw that on the third night after the bodies , a group of people suddenly came and blocked the area. Then, in the middle of the night, a fire appeared. The fire burned for a long time, accompanied by a burning smell. When it was dawn the next day, some brave people went over and found that the soil in an area was burnt black, and the surrounding weeds were also burned clean.
That's where the body wrapped in a straw mat was dug out.
Twenty years later, this place has been abandoned. Even though the area near Chang'an has been developed, for some unknown reason, no one has paid attention to this place.
That evening, at around nine o'clock, a car drove up to the fields outside the eastern suburbs. The door was opened and three people got out. They all had headscarves on their heads and wore double-breasted men's suits. Except for one who looked quite old, the other two were probably around 40 years old, with dark skin and not very tall stature.
After getting out of the car, two of them opened the trunk and started taking out tools from it. The older man walked straight to the middle of the field, then squatted down and casually picked up the dust on the ground with his hands. After a while, a piece of charred soil was revealed, as if it had been burned by fire.
The man sighed and said without raising his head, "It's a pity that one of the bodies is missing. It was burned after it was dug out. We didn't have time to take it away. It was wasted in vain."
"Uncle Donggan, is everything else okay?" the two men came over with shovels and asked.
Uncle Donggan shook his head and said, "It's okay. No one has come to this place since then. It's buried quite deep, so no one will find it easily... I'll point to the place, you guys start, dig it out quickly, and we'll leave tonight."
"Okay, Uncle Donggan, let's invite the corpse!"
"Calling for a corpse" is a professional and obscure term. It is said that the ancient Wu people in western Hunan would keep the corpse in a place with strong yin energy, and after the corpse is conceived, they would dig it out and take it away.
This kind of corpse-raising is very different from the corpse-driving in Xiangxi. The corpse-driving in Xiangxi simply sends the bodies of people who died in a foreign land back to their hometown for burial. Together with the poisonous insects and the fallen flower cave girl, it is called the three evil spirits of Xiangxi.
Corpse raising is different. It is a witchcraft passed down from the ancient Miao people in western Hunan. The corpse raisers will specifically look for some corpses and then keep them underground. When the corpses are formed, they will be dug out again. When the corpses are dug out, they still retain almost their original appearance. The flesh is not rotten at all, and even the hair, teeth and pores on the body can be clearly seen. The skin is still loose as if the person had just died.
There used to be two famous corpse-keeping sites in China. One was the Yong'an corpse-keeping site in southern Fujian, and the other was the Fuxian Lake in Yuxi. It was said that there were many corpses standing underwater. Whenever the water flowed, these underwater corpses would sway with the water, as if the people were not dead yet and were walking underwater.
However, as these two places became known to the public, the two corpse-raising sites were gradually abandoned, and now they basically no longer exist.
As for why they need to raise corpses, outsiders do not know. Only the great witches in the ancient Miao tribes in western Hunan know the truth. This is a secret passed down from generation to generation, and outsiders never know it.
Under the dark night sky, shovels turned over the soil and rocks on the ground. Before long, the two men dug a pit about four or five meters deep under their feet, and then dug out a rotten and dilapidated coffin.
