Chapter 76: Grilled Skewers
Brother Xiaosheng sat dejectedly on the stairs in the stairwell.
He felt like he was dreaming, a never-ending nightmare from which he had no idea when he would wake up.
The puppy in the pet bag made a slight sound. Xiaosheng picked up the bag, and the dog behind the vent looked at him with its sparkling black eyes. It leaned over the gap and tried to touch Xiaosheng's hand with its nose.
It still looked uneasy, but it finally stopped barking threateningly. Does that mean it's safe now?
"Be good, we can always get out." Brother Xiaosheng touched it through the bag.
After sitting down, steadying his breathing, and recovering some strength, Brother Xiaosheng stood up and walked around while thinking about his current situation.
At first he wanted to figure out what floor he was on. He had been walking down for nearly 50 minutes, so he should have reached the ground floor by now, but every time he opened the security door, the view was exactly the same, with all the doors closed and the corridor empty.
All information indicated that he was still on one of the upper floors of the building.
This is an absurd reality that goes against common sense.
Whether he was going up or down, all he saw before him was an endless stream of unchanging stairs.
It's like being trapped in a maze.
Maybe I shouldn't take the stairs.
Brother Xiaosheng thought of the shadow that had chased him. His legs and feet suddenly felt weak. But in his current state, he might never get out of the house if he kept walking up the stairs.
"Maybe this is just a dream," he said to himself, and then raised his voice, "Yes, it is a dream. There is nothing to be afraid of if you die in a dream."
He picked up the pet bag and said to the puppy in the bag: "Please keep an eye on it for me. If there is any danger, please bark." The puppy came close to the air hole and whimpered twice, as if agreeing with him.
Brother Xiaosheng turned around, pushed open the security door, and walked back to the corridor.
The scene in front of him was still exactly the same. Xiaosheng walked along the corridor to the window on the side of the floor. The sunlight shone through the blinds and scattered golden light on the ground. This showed that the floor he was on was not underground.
Does this mean I walked down for 50 minutes and was still above the 1st floor?
This is ridiculous. I must be dreaming.
Brother Xiaosheng moved closer to the blinds to see the view outside the window, but the gap in the blinds was too small and he could only see the white light outside the window.
It seems that taking the stairs is not an option.
He came to the elevator again, but no matter how many times he pressed the button, the elevator still did not display any information. Xiaosheng kicked the elevator door in anger.
The elevator didn't work either.
Xiaosheng slapped his face and twisted his arm hard. He felt very painful, but he showed no signs of escaping from the dream. He sighed. It seemed that his brain would not let him wake up from this nightmare so easily, so he had to continue to find a way out.
If it was my own dream, then the dream should be constructed according to my subconscious mind. Xiaosheng thought, maybe my subconscious mind wanted me to play a maze puzzle game in my dream. Since it is a game, there must be hints and ways to crack it.
He began to carefully recall every detail of how he entered the building. Ah, he suddenly remembered the key that the strange bandaged man dropped!
Brother Xiaosheng took out the key from his pocket.
Maybe! This is the key to getting myself out of this damn building!
Brain, oh brain, you really know how to play with me.
But where should this key be used?
Brother Xiaosheng stared at the key in his hand for a while. He walked forward and looked at the identical doors in the corridor.
It shouldn't be that easy to open the door. Thinking of this, he inserted a key into the lock of a door.
Click.
Shit, it’s really open.
Brain, oh brain, your game settings are so stupid.
The door opened, and a dark passage appeared before us.
He picked up the pet bag and whispered to the puppy, "Is it dangerous?"
The puppy sniffed in the direction of the door and wagged its tail.
"Then there is no danger. I trust you, dog, please don't let me down." Brother Xiaosheng said to himself and put the responsibility on the dog. The dog barked in confusion.
Xiaosheng walked into the passage. There were small lights on both sides of the passage, which were just enough to illuminate the road under his feet. He walked forward for about 1 minute and smelled a fragrance.
It was the aroma of barbecue. Xiaosheng took a long breath. It was the aroma of charcoal-grilled meat and the fragrant aroma of grease and burnt fat. His mouth began to fill with saliva. After consuming so much energy, he was really hungry.
Is there a barbecue restaurant here?
Brother Xiaosheng walked quickly forward and after pushing open a door at the end of the passage, a bright barbecue restaurant appeared before his eyes.
There were no other customers in the store, only the boss busy at the grill.
Xiaosheng pushed open the door and saw posters with strange words on the walls. He walked up to the boss and, tempted by the aroma, his first question changed from "How can I get out of this damn building?" to "Boss, how much is this skewer?"
The boss didn't look up. He said, "Legion or Parliament?"
"ah?"
"Legion or Parliament?"
Is this another game my brain is playing with me in my dream? Xiaosheng blinked. The adopter's online name seemed to be related to the Legion. He remembered that he was chased by a strange black shadow when he shouted this online name in the building, so Xiaosheng subconsciously answered: "Parliament."
"Temple or Reformed?"
"…" Brain, brain, where do you come up with these terms? But it was a choice between the two, so he said, "Reformists."
“Answer me, is Aquinas the great teacher who pointed out the right path for the council?”
"…" Brain, brain, can you have a decent dream? What a mess of settings. Forget it, the answer is only yes or no. He said: "Yes."
The boss raised his head and smiled, "Okay, this meal is free for you."
Looks like I got all the answers right by sheer luck.
Xiaosheng found a seat in the store and sat down. Before he could finish marveling at the wonders of the human brain, the boss brought a plate in front of him. The plate contained three skewers of meat, sizzling with oil.
The puppy was spinning around in the bag excitedly.
Xiaosheng unzipped his pants and put the puppy on the ground. He took a napkin, scraped off half a skewer of meat and placed it in front of the puppy. The puppy barked happily, leaned over to eat, and kept making cute swallowing sounds.
It looks really delicious.
Brother Xiaosheng picked up the skewer and took a bite.
This, this taste! The skewers were grilled to a crispy outside and tender inside. When the grilled meat was bitten into, the crispy skin and the juicy meat formed a perfect duet, leaving a lingering fragrance on his lips and teeth and a sweet aftertaste on his tongue.
Bite after bite, in the blink of an eye, he had finished all the skewers on the plate.
It was really delicious, better than any kebab he had eaten before, but he couldn't tell what kind of meat it was. He looked at the poster on the wall of the store that looked like a menu poster, but he didn't recognize any of the words on it.
"Boss, your cooking skills are amazing. What kind of meat is this?"
"A parasite in Alimachi."
"……What?"
"It's the parasite in Ali Machi's body."
"…" Brain, brain, what are you thinking about? Brother Xiaosheng resisted the urge to madly complain about his brain, and asked, "Excuse me, what is Ali Machi?"
"Haven't you seen it?" the boss whistled.
The puppy suddenly jumped up and quickly got back into the pet bag. Xiaosheng had a bad feeling in his heart. A giant fleshworm monster crawled out.
It was about two meters long and 80 centimeters wide, with slightly pulsating pink skin and densely covered brown hairs on its upper side. Every time it moved, its skin would wrinkle finely. It opened its mouth towards the boss, and Xiaosheng saw countless teeth in its mouth.
"Look, Alimachi is very well behaved." The boss picked up a small meatball from the table and threw it into the mouthparts of the meatworm monster.
The fleshworm swallowed the meatball. After a while, this Alimaqi began to cough violently, and began to retch on the ground. After a violent retching sound, it vomited two long and thin worms on the ground.
The boss bent down to pick up the worm on the ground, and held it up to show Xiaosheng with a smile: "Look, this is the parasite in Alimachi's body, it's delicious."
"..." Xiaosheng resisted the urge to vomit on the spot. He scolded his brain again. What kind of setting is this? Is he deliberately disgusting himself by having such a dream?
The door of the barbecue restaurant was pushed open. A customer came in.
When the guest came in, Xiaosheng felt that he no longer had the energy to complain about his brain. Because this guest did not look like a human, or it was just a walking fish. Yellow scales covered its entire body, and shiny mucus could be seen on it. It had no clothes, but wore a hat on its head.
After entering the door, it shouted: "Boss, give me five skewers, with chain worm egg sauce."
"Okay."
Then, Yu shifted his attention to Brother Xiaosheng.
Xiaosheng quietly hooked the pet bag to his side. Fish probably won't eat puppies, but fish that can walk are hard to say.
The fish said, "You, were you the one who just shouted for the Legion upstairs?"
“…”
Yu turned around and shouted to the boss: "This guy is from the Legion!!!"
The atmosphere in the store suddenly changed. The boss, the walking fish customer, and the fleshworm monster Alimachi all stared at Xiaosheng.
Brother Xiaosheng felt bad. He picked up the pet bag. The puppy didn't bark. But he felt that he would be torn into pieces by this man, fish and insect in the next second.
"Boss, parasite meat is delicious , hahahahahaha, I'm leaving first."
"Stop!" The boss picked up a shiny kitchen knife. "Are you from the Legion? You lied to me?" His tone was cold, with an unstoppable murderous aura. Aliqima on the side suddenly arched his upper body and neighed at Brother Xiaosheng.
Shit, I feel like I’m going to die in my dream.
"He is Boss Han's guest." A voice interrupted.
Brother Xiaosheng turned around and saw a young man standing at the door. The young man walked over and said a few words to the boss, who then put away the kitchen knife and smiled again.
The young man walked up to him and glanced at him with his dark eyes, "This building is not safe now, Xiaosheng, just follow me."
Brother Xiaosheng began to blame his brain, brain, oh brain, it was okay for me to have such a weird dream, it was okay for me to eat parasites in the dream, but why didn’t I even see a beautiful girl, but instead I got stuffed with Yan Zhen, who he hated the most?
