Chapter 64: Weird Old He
When I woke up, I was lying on a soft bed.
The clean white walls around me and the familiar formalin disinfectant in the air gave me a sense of familiarity.
"here it is?"
I struggled to get out of bed. My body felt like it was falling apart and I was in so much pain.
I walked to the window. The sun was shining brightly outside, covering the earth. The clear blue sky was cloudless and as clear as jade.
But my heart grew colder.
I remembered!
Last night, Lao He and I were attacked by Cheng Xiaoyan’s grandmother… Lao He was bitten, and I was also restrained by the old woman… Then, Cheng Xiaoyan came!
Yes, she came, what happened next?
My heart trembled when I thought of the scene of Cheng Xiaoyan kneeling on the ground, crying heart-wrenchingly, and begging for mercy from me to that old monster. My heart was filled with turmoil and I couldn't calm down.
Clang——
The door of the ward suddenly opened, and it was Sister Sun.
She was holding a basket of fruit in her hand. When she saw me standing outside the window, she was slightly startled and then complained, "Why are you up? Lie down quickly!"
"Sister Sun, how are my friends?" I asked hurriedly, "Lao He and Cheng Xiaoyan, they--"
"Don't worry, they are fine." Sister Sun interrupted me and said softly.
“Really…really?”
I can hardly believe it.
"Why would I lie to you? Lao He and Cheng Xiaoyan are recuperating in Building D now. You will be able to see them when you go back." Sister Sun patted my shoulder and comforted me.
I breathed a sigh of relief when I heard this.
The huge stone in my heart was lifted at once.
But, I just can’t understand. I dug out one of Cheng Xiaoyan’s grandmother’s eyes last night. Would she be willing to let me go just like that?
Sister Sun sighed and said, "I never thought that there would be a vicious dog in our hospital so late at night... Fortunately, you are only slightly injured and you can get a rabies vaccine."
Vicious dog?
I was stunned for a moment and said, "Sister Sun, what vicious dog?"
"Aren't the injuries on you and Lao He caused by vicious dogs?" Sister Sun looked at me strangely and said, "You are relatively okay, with only some scratches, but Lao He was in a terrible condition , with the bite on his neck. Fortunately, the aorta was not injured... Oh, it's scary just to think about it."
When I heard this, I understood that Sister Sun treated Cheng Xiaoyan’s grandmother as a vicious dog.
I asked Sister Sun, where is Cheng Xiaoyan, is she okay?
"Don't worry, she is the only one among the three of you who is unharmed." Sister Sun said with a smile: "You should thank this little girl. Fortunately, she showed up in time and drove away the vicious dog, otherwise you and Lao He would be in danger."
I thought to myself that this wasn’t right. Even if Cheng Xiaoyan pleaded with me and asked the old monster to let us go, there was no reason for the old monster not to take her away?
"Sister Sun, can I be discharged from the hospital now?" I said.
"No, although your wounds are not serious, your mental state is very bad... Let's put it this way, you should have a good rest tonight and go to work tomorrow." Sister Sun said.
I smiled bitterly and said, "Really, no need. I'm in great shape now and can go back to Building D to keep watch."
Sister Sun looked at me and asked if I was sure it was okay. I patted my chest and said it was absolutely okay. She thought about it for a while before agreeing.
After leaving the ward, I walked towards Building D without stopping.
Although Sister Sun said they were fine, I was still worried. After all, the situation last night was too dangerous... How could this old monster let them go so easily for no reason?
When I walked into Building D, my right hand accidentally hit the door handle and I felt a stinging pain. I lowered my head and found a very thin pinhole on my arm. I didn’t think much about it and thought it was because I was unconscious. Sister Sun asked someone to give me a rabies vaccine.
I went to Room 105 first and saw Cheng Xiaoyan lying on the bed, hugging her legs and watching TV.
Feeling relieved, I knocked on the door. Cheng Xiaoyan looked over expressionlessly and said coldly, "What's the matter?"
I didn't expect her attitude to be so cold. I was a little embarrassed for a moment and didn't know what to say.
"Um...are you okay yesterday?" I said.
"It's okay." Cheng Xiaoyan said.
"What happened to your grandmother? She didn't do anything to you, did she?"
"No."
I scratched my head, not knowing whether to leave or not.
"Do you have anything else to say?" Cheng Xiaoyan looked at me expressionlessly and said.
"It's okay, I just came to see you," I said.
"Have you finished reading now? Let's go after you're done." Cheng Xiaoyan said.
Her attitude made me even more uneasy. My intuition told me that something must have happened after I fell unconscious last night.
I came to her side, forced a smile, and said, "Xiaoyan, you——"
"Are you annoying?" Cheng Xiaoyan suddenly shouted at me angrily, "I'm a patient. I'm very tired and need to rest. Can you leave?"
"I……"
"Are you going to leave or not? If you don't leave, I will!"
Cheng Xiaoyan jumped off the bed and was about to walk out the door.
I frowned, grabbed her, and regardless of her struggle, I said coldly: "Cheng Xiaoyan, if you are angry, you can scold me, you can throw things at me, but... don't take everything to heart - besides, I don't like your moody look, I prefer the girl who smiled all day and was heartless back then."
Cheng Xiaoyan turned her head, gave me a sarcastic look, and said with a smile: "I'm sorry, this is who I am now. The previous Cheng Xiaoyan is dead."
Without waiting for me to say anything, she pushed me hard and pushed me out the door.
The door slammed shut.
The moment she closed it, I clearly saw tears glistening in her eyes.
she cried?
I stood there at a loss, suddenly not knowing what to do.
I regretted saying such things to her.
She is a patient!
Any patient in this situation would become moody, so how could I blame her?
I turned around dejectedly and left.
When I arrived at 108, I didn't see Lao He. I asked a few patients and they said Lao He had just left and they didn't know where he went.
I walked out of Building D with confusion in my mind, and from a distance, I saw Lao He carrying two bags, one black and one white, walking towards me.
Lao He looked a little strange, with one hand covering his neck and the other holding something, he frowned and his face looked dull, especially his lips, which had become a little black, as if he had been poisoned.
I walked over to say hello to Lao He. He was stunned for a moment, then nodded at me and said, "I have something to do, let's talk later," and then left in a hurry.
I was curious and followed him. I saw him walk straight into the bathroom. He opened the black bag and pulled out a living snake. He then opened the white bag and found a pile of glutinous rice.
"Lao He, why did you buy a snake?"
I walked over and asked.
Lao He probably didn't expect me to be behind him. He was startled and accidentally let go of his hand that was covering his neck.
My eyes widened immediately. I saw a large rotten wound on the side of his neck. On the wound , there were two bloody tooth holes, deeply sunken...
