Chapter 62 Taibai Immortal Residence
Mid-Autumn Festival 1938.
Six o'clock in the afternoon, dusk.
The Taibai Xianju Restaurant in Fengqiao Ancient Town looks solemn and dignified as the afterglow of the setting sun shines on the plaque.
At the window on the second floor, there was a table of guests dining. There was only a dish of braised fish and two stir-fried dishes on the table. There were four people at the table, and no one seemed to have much interest in the food and wine. Everyone's eyes were always looking out the window.
Through the open window , across the street was the location where the Japanese troops were stationed in Fengqiao Ancient Town. It was a spacious courtyard with low tiled houses on the southeast and east sides, and a three-story building on the west side with eight rooms on each floor.
There was a Japanese soldier on the corridor on the third floor, lying on the railing in boredom , drowsy and looking down listlessly, his gun leaning crookedly against the wall.
It seems that this is a Japanese soldier who is responsible for keeping watch. The long period of peace has made him give up the necessary vigilance.
Since the Battle of Shanghai last year, the Japanese army has been unstoppable and has occupied a large amount of Chinese territory, causing the Japanese army to become arrogant and domineering, and full of contempt for the Chinese people.
The soldiers in the Japanese-occupied areas were even more arrogant and extravagant, committing all kinds of evil and looking down on everyone. The reason they were like this was that they had not been taught a lesson or punished.
In the house at the east end of the yard, a cook was busy preparing Mid-Autumn Festival dinner for the Japanese soldiers.
At the gate of the yard, there were two puppet soldiers guarding.
At this moment, two three-wheeled motorcycles suddenly drove over, carrying four puppet soldiers and two young women. The three-wheeled motorcycles drove straight into the yard.
One of the puppet soldiers with pockmarks on his face shouted twice at the house on the west side. Suddenly, many doors of the house on the west side opened, and more than a dozen Japanese soldiers came out.
With obscene expressions on their faces, they ran into the yard shouting and screaming, surrounded the two women, and reached out to touch them with a grin on their faces. The two women screamed in shock, and the Japanese soldiers immediately laughed happily.
After a long while, the two women were forcibly dragged into a house on the west side of the building. During the dragging process, the two women cried loudly, and their shrill screams echoed in the yard, which was heartbreaking.
However, the group not only did not stop, but shouted loudly and became more and more violent. They pushed the woman into the room roughly, and then the pockmarked puppet soldier locked the door from the outside.
The group of Japanese soldiers then rushed over to the cook who was preparing dinner, shouting and yelling, apparently urging him to cook faster.
Looking at this group of complacent and unscrupulous Japanese soldiers, Chen Wei's face turned pale, she clenched her fists tightly, and her eyes seemed to be spitting fire.
"When do we start? I can't wait even a minute."
Liu Zhengfeng looked at Chen Wei gritting her teeth and sighed softly.
"Don't worry, wait a little longer."
Chen Wei's face was filled with anger, her eyebrows raised: "These damned Japanese devils are really lawless. The earlier we acted, the more innocent Chinese people we could have saved."
Li Fei suddenly waved to a restaurant waiter, and the waiter hurried over. Li Fei glanced out the window.
"Dude, did you see what happened just now across the street?"
The guy sighed and said, "I see. I'm used to it. Every ten days or half a month, new girls will be sent here."
Chen Wei said angrily: "You watched the Japanese devils abuse the girls here every day, and you just stood there doing nothing. Have you ever thought about rescuing them?"
The waiter said with a bitter face: "Miss, you think too highly of me. I am just an ordinary citizen. Am I so bold as to ruin the good deeds of the lady?"
Chen Wei said angrily: "We are all Chinese, how can you just ignore it? Has your conscience been eaten by a dog?"
The guy chuckled and said, "Girl, stop joking with me. I don't want to die yet."
Tang Yunfu waved at the guy and motioned him to go. He thought that as a member of the famous Military Intelligence Bureau, he couldn't deal with these Japanese soldiers, so why should he make things difficult for an unarmed civilian?
At this moment, there was suddenly a burst of crackling sound of firecrackers. Yes, it was the sound of firecrackers, not gunshots.
This is someone offering sacrifices to their ancestors. Liu Zhengfeng knows that Guangdong people have the habit of offering sacrifices to their ancestors during festivals. He is not sure whether this custom exists in Suzhou.
He didn't care who set off the firecrackers. Anyway, it would be beneficial to the action he was going to take later.
Liu Zhengfeng looked at Tang Yunfu and Li Fei, nodded, and signaled that they could begin.
Chen Wei stood up suddenly and said in a deep voice: "Captain Li, I will lead the team myself."
Li Fei nodded gently: "Well, be careful, go ahead."
Liu Zhengfeng suddenly said, "Captain Chen, remember, leave someone alive, preferably their top commander. I can be of great use to him."
Chen Wei hesitated for a while, nodded, and then left quickly.
Today is Mid-Autumn Festival. People are used to eating at home. There are only three tables of guests in Taibai Xianju Restaurant in Noda.
Liu Zhengfeng asked his waiter to invite the boss over. The boss was an old man in his sixties, who came to Liu Zhengfeng in a friendly manner.
Liu Zhengfeng smiled at the boss, then suddenly clapped his hands and said loudly, "Everyone, we are from the Nationalist Government. We will take down the Japanese troops on the opposite side in a while. Please don't panic. I promise that everyone will be fine."
Liu Zhengfeng's words were like thunder from a clear sky, causing an uproar in the restaurant. There were more than a dozen guests at the two tables, and they all stood up in panic and wanted to run away.
The action has not started yet. If we let them run away, it will inevitably alert the Japanese on the opposite side.
Li Fei suddenly pulled out his pistol and slammed it on the table, looking at the two tables of guests with a stern face.
"Whoever dares to run around, don't blame me for being rude."
Tang Yunfu said sternly , "Everyone sit down. No one can run away before we fire the first shot, or you can't blame us for being ruthless."
Under the intimidation of Li Fei and Tang Yunfu, everyone returned to their seats trembling with fear.
Liu Zhengfeng was surprised to find that the owner of this restaurant was surprisingly calm and couldn't help but smile at him.
The boss suddenly said to Liu Zhengfeng, "Boss, if you want to fight, I suggest you wait until they are eating. Their guns are all in the building over here, and they eat in the dining hall on the east side. In the past two months, they have never brought guns to eat."
A smile appeared on Liu Zhengfeng's face. It was rare to see such a calm and composed boss.
"Boss, I understand. Thank you. Don't worry. I promise the battle will be over soon and the Japanese won't be able to find out about you. You can continue to do your business."
The boss said excitedly: "I am not afraid even if we can't do business. The Japanese have bullied us badly in the past six months. Those dozen beasts on the other side are so bad. I don't know how many girls they have harmed. If I were ten years younger, I would fight them to the death."
As the boss spoke, tears streamed down his old face and he looked very excited.
Liu Zhengfeng sighed and smiled, "Why bother your father-in-law to kill these beasts? Just leave it to me. If you are not afraid of danger, you can just watch here and see how we deal with them."
