Chapter 6 Daily Life in the Infirmary (Part 2)
The square was not far from Lu Ren. It stretched between Lu Ren and the palace, and was on the road that Lu Ren had to take to get to the palace. Lu Ren took a few steps forward and finally saw the scene on the square clearly: there was a huge pit on the ground, as if it was caused by something falling from the sky. A boy and a girl were fighting with an ugly monster. The monster looked like a red cow, but its four feet looked more like horse hooves, and it had a human face. The face was ugly and hideous, and covered with blood. The expression was resentful and unwilling, and the hind hooves kicked the ground, as if accumulating strength to attack again at any time.
The girl is the yellow bird, and if nothing unexpected happens, the boy should be the giant python.
The yellow bird frowned at the monster, made a "tsk" sound, and scolded the monster word by word: "You overestimate your abilities!" It actually jumped into the air and transformed into a huge bird in mid-air.
The bird was snow-white with only pointed wings, and its crown and tail feathers were dazzling light yellow. The crown fell behind its head like a peacock's feathers, and with its color, it looked like it was wearing a huge crown. The tail feathers were much longer than the peacock's feathers, shining brightly, and from a distance they looked like a handful of sunshine following the bird. No, this bird should not be compared to a peacock at all. The peacock would probably feel ashamed to see such a look.
In an instant, Lu Ren realized: the yellow bird is the royal bird, it is a phoenix.
The phoenix flew into the sky, ready to attack the monster from top to bottom. The monster raised its head to look up at the sky, opened its mouth and let out a shrill cry towards the phoenix. The sound made Lu Ren shudder from the depths of his soul, and he covered his ears involuntarily.
At the same time, the young man who had been standing on the ground took action. He rushed towards the monster like an arrow.
A dagger appeared in his hand while he was running. Lu Ren didn't know if it was because of his daggers, but he seemed to see a faint green light coming from the tip of the dagger.
The boy and the monster fought to a point, leaving a deep wound on the cow. Then the yellow bird saw the opportunity, swooped down from the sky, and pecked one of the monster's eyes.
The monster cried out in pain, spat out a cloud of black , and then ran into the woods.
The yellow bird and the boy did not chase after them. It seemed that they had consumed too much energy after the great battle. Following the principle of not chasing after a desperate enemy, the boy and the yellow bird, who had turned back into a girl, stayed where they were to rest and conserve their strength.
Only then did Lu Ren dare to speak to let the other person know of his presence: "Doctor Yellow Bird!" He called the girl's name.
But it was the young man who reacted first. Lu Ren only saw a residual shadow, and the young man flashed in front of him, then grabbed his neck with his hands. The feeling of suffocation surged towards Lu Ren like the sea.
Lu Ren struggled to pry open the boy's tightly clenched fingers, but the boy seemed as firm as steel.
Fortunately, the yellow bird stopped the boy at this time: "Black Snake, don't hurt your colleagues!"
The black snake finally gave up in disappointment. He let go of Lu Ren and said in a cold boyish voice: "This is not the place you should come to."
Lu Ren explained: "I didn't do it on purpose. I just saw that the door was not closed properly when you left, so I went to close it. Who knew that the door disappeared all of a sudden, and I ended up here."
Huang Niao listened to Lu Ren's words and analyzed: "It should be because when we were fighting just now, the spiritual power fluctuations of Wushan changed, so you were involved."
The black snake snorted coldly: "Since there is nothing to do, why don't you get out of here quickly."
Lu Ren also wanted to cry but had no tears: "But I don't know how to go back."
The yellow bird smiled at Lu Ren soothingly: "Don't worry, we'll take you back after a rest." As he said that, the yellow bird sat back on the ground to calm his breathing.
Lu Ren finally felt relieved. He glanced at the palace not far away and asked, "Is this place called Wushan?"
The yellow bird nodded.
Lu Ren looked at it in surprise, thinking that he was just going to treat his broken knee, but he didn't expect to have a free trip. I have heard before that "there are no clouds except Wushan" and now I am covered with the clouds of Wushan, and I am a little excited.
Seeing Lu Ren shaking his head and looking around, Xuanshe was furious: "Idiot! What do you think this is? A tourist attraction?"
Lu Ren thought that it was not good to be too presumptuous on someone else's territory, so he restrained his expression and stood straight like a well-behaved primary school student. However, he still couldn't help but observe secretly out of the corner of his eye.
The black snake saw his expression and snorted coldly. The yellow bird beside him quickly came out to adjust the atmosphere: "He is a mortal, so he naturally doesn't know where this place is." He turned to look at Lu Ren and said: "This is not the Wushan you think, this is the Eight Houses."
Then the black snake next to him took over the conversation and said with arrogance: "This is the place favored by the ancient gods. It is the place where the gods and witches were born and died."
The young man waved his hand, and Lu Ren felt a flash before his eyes. A gust of wind blew away the heavy clouds and mist, revealing the majestic yet charming side of Wushan Bazhai.
The dark palace in front of him suddenly became brightly lit. A fragrant breeze blew from the palace, and the silk curtains fluttered in the warm wind. Peach petals from nowhere mixed in the wind, like a group of dancing butterflies, drifting away with the wind, without asking for the future.
A few petals rested on Lu Ren's shoulders. They were peach blossoms, light pink, at their brightest.
Suddenly, he seemed to hear bursts of silver bell-like laughter. A group of beautiful fairies passed by Lu Ren, talking and laughing. They were wearing cloud-woven silk clothes, with cloud-like hair and flower-like faces. Some were cool, some were gorgeous, and some were delicate. Their gauze shawls fluttered in the breeze, as if they were about to fly away at any time. Some of these fairies were holding flowers, some were holding fruits and vegetables. With the sound of stringed instruments coming faintly from the palace in the distance, one could imagine that the host here was holding a banquet, a banquet for the immortals.
The fairies didn't seem to see Lu Ren, and passed straight through his body. Lu Ren only felt a gust of wind, and the figures of the fairies seemed to blur like water waves, and then gradually faded away as if nothing had happened.
This is the memory of Wushan.
Black Snake looked like a boy of only thirteen or fourteen years old, with a thin body and pale face, as if he would fall down if the wind blew. He looked back at the buildings with a nostalgic look in his eyes: "No one has been to Wushan for a long time."
After the great witch disappeared, only lifeless clouds and rain remained on Wushan Mountain. This was once the place where gods descended. Now, there is only bitter wind and rain, and empty and broken palaces. People have forgotten its name, and only remember the words and phrases of the ancients who pretended to be romantic.
His tone was so sad, but his eyes were firm and resolute. Even though the ancient times were gone, he was still a resident of Wushan, still with supreme glory and indelible pride. The clouds of Wushan kissed him, and the wind of Wushan embraced him. From the distant palace floated the long-lost ballads. That night, Wushan and he were remembering the past together.
As he spoke, the singing gradually became softer, the wind gradually died down, the brightly lit palace gradually dimmed, and Wushan seemed to have died once again.
The darkness was like a giant beast lurking deep in the heart. The yellow bird and the black snake turned their backs, unwilling to look at this desolate palace anymore.
Silence spread among the three people for a long time. Yellow Bird was the first to break the silence: "Let's go."
The black snake did not say a word, but took the first step forward with her, as if he was eager to escape from this place.
Lu Ren was also about to turn around.
Suddenly, he saw a strong light suddenly coming out of the dark palace in the northwest, and asked in confusion: "What is that?"
The yellow bird and the black snake were already several meters away from him. When they heard his words, they turned around and saw the dazzling light. Their faces changed: "Come with us!"
Obviously, both of them were very close to Lu Ren, but strangely, Lu Ren felt that their voices were far away from him, very empty, like an echo in a valley, and he couldn't hear them clearly. At this moment, there was only that light in his eyes, and a desire rose from the depths of : "I want it!"
It? Lu Ren was confused for a moment. What is it? Why do I want it so much?
But this doubt only stayed in his mind for less than a minute. Soon, the strong desire made him have no time to think about more questions.
I saw his eyes were red, and he took a step forward and walked towards the northwest.
One step, two steps...
The yellow bird called his name not far away: "Lu Ren!"
But Lu Ren couldn't hear: "Lu Ren? Who is Lu Ren? Whoever that is, don't try to stop me from getting it!"
Seeing that things were not going well, the black snake teleported in front of Lu Ren and blocked his way. His eyes turned into golden snake pupils, and fine black scales grew on his face. His hair moved without wind. He held his glowing dagger in his hand, ready to strike. He said in a deep voice that did not belong to a human: "If you take another step forward, I will have no choice but to kill you."
But Lu Ren turned a deaf ear to him. He still walked forward stubbornly. He looked at the palace in the northwest with an almost crazy fanaticism in his eyes. He even growled like a beast at the black snake that was blocking his way.
Black Snake prepared to attack: "It seems there is no other way."
At this moment, a hand covered Lu Ren's eyes, and Lu Ren heard a deep and pleasant voice saying in his ear: "Go to sleep."
Then, he sank into a quiet and peaceful darkness. Before he fell asleep, a thought crossed his mind: "This voice sounds so familiar."
In the square, Si Yuan put one hand around Lu Ren's waist and let him lean his head on his shoulder. The black snake and the yellow bird knelt on both sides, waiting for Si Yuan's order.
Si Yuan, who was always quiet but gentle, had no expression on his face. He lowered his eyes to look at the yellow bird and the black snake, and said in a bad tone: "There won't be a next time."
Hearing this, the two men who had just been decisive in killing shuddered and lowered their heads even lower. Because they both knew what Si Yuan meant: letting a human being step into Wushan, and even almost killing their colleagues to make up for this mistake, was a huge sin.
Si Yuan looked towards the palace in the northwest and let out an almost inaudible sigh.
The previously bright light suddenly dimmed, as if nothing had happened.
Si Yuan withdrew his gaze, turned around with Lu Ren, and walked into the snowy clouds.
