Chapter 5 The Only Extraordinary
Chapter 5: The Only Extraordinary
Small Temple.
Fang Yi retreated his mind back to his physical body and, in doing so, used the energy field model copied from the statue to return the golden elixir to his own body.
This energy field model was truly miraculous. Not only did it allow him to enter a state of "unity of heaven and man" and observe the composition of all things in the world, it also allowed
him to channel energy. Under certain circumstances, he could even channel immense amounts of energy, similar to the statue's previous channeling of energy.
However, this state was difficult to trigger, requiring extremely sincere prayer, a devotion that transcended life and death.
Furthermore, the statue's energy field had a minor function.
It could use objects like door scrolls and sculptures crafted from certain special materials to transform into a golden dragon, similar to the one previously mentioned, capable of harming a person's "mind."
However, this effect only worked on those with a certain level of mental strength; it wouldn't work on ordinary people.
Perhaps because the statue's energy field was constructed from humankind's beautiful wishes, it wouldn't harm ordinary people.
Fang Yi was contemplating his harvest.
Suddenly, Lao Miao's voice rang out. "What are you standing there for? Finish burning the incense and go back. I'm so sleepy I need to sleep."
Fang Yi glanced to the side. "Just thought of something. By the way, how long have I been standing here?"
Lao Miao yawned. "About a minute."
A minute?
But it felt like hundreds of thousands of years.
Fang Yi was still pondering.
Aunt Wang's voice rang out from the side. "Xiao Yi, what are you dawdling about? Aunt Wu and I are waiting to burn incense and worship the gods."
Although Grandma Wu didn't say anything, her eyes hinted at urgency.
Fang Yi quickly made way.
Lao Miao grumbled, "So much to do this morning. Hurry up and burn the incense. I'm so sleepy."
"Alright, alright. I'll burn one stick and leave. Don't keep me waiting."
Aunt Wang rolled her eyes and stepped forward. She deftly set the incense aside, then picked up three sticks from the table where the candlesticks and incense burner were placed, lit them, and kowtowed.
Grandma Wu waited nearby.
Fang Yi felt the matter was settled, and he immediately raised his foot to reach for Li Kai.
Suddenly,
he felt a faint energy fluctuation.
This energy fluctuation, a reminder, did not originate from his own "soul," but from the model he had previously constructed by replicating the statue.
He was stunned to see the image of Aunt Wang emerge from the model within his mind that possessed the statue's functions. The next second, a voice rang out: "Please bless my old man to recover quickly..."
Huh?
Confused, Fang Yi turned to look, but Aunt Wang remained silent. Uncertain, he asked Lao Miao, "Did you hear anything?"
Lao Miao looked bewildered, "No."
Grandma Wu also gave him a strange look. "Are you hallucinating?"
Fang Yi didn't reply, but his interest piqued. Could it be that when a person prayed sincerely, they actually contributed energy to the statue?
If so, what form did that energy take?
He certainly couldn't see it with his naked eyes.
Fang Yi pondered this, once again allowing his mind to transcend his physical body.
The next moment, he saw Aunt Wang's "energy field," a web-like structure, just as tightly connected to the universe as the statue's energy field.
The only difference was that Aunt Wang's "energy field" constantly channeled energy into the universe, never truly merging with it.
It turned out everyone has a biological energy field, not just mine.
Fang Yi observed thoughtfully, noticing that Aunt Wang's biological energy field was far weaker than his own.
During Aunt Wang's prayer, a tiny particle of energy, like a particle, escaped its path and was absorbed by the statue's energy field.
Furthermore, after receiving Aunt Wang's prayer energy, the statue's energy field returned an even weaker particle of energy, as if conveying some message.
Fang Yi attempted to use his mind to tap into the energy transmitted back by the statue and immediately understood the message: it was essentially asking Aunt Wang to take her husband to the hospital for a thorough checkup.
Oh, it was a hint.
Fang Yi understood, and prepared to return his mind to his physical body.
Suddenly, he witnessed a terrifying scene!
Standing nearby, the lines connecting Lao Miao's "energy field" to the universe had all snapped. Sixty or seventy broken "lines" were visible!
Fang Yi remembered witnessing this phenomenon before when he entered observation mode. Whether it was a particle or a planet, upon completing its mission and fading, it would sever its connection with the universe.
This state was very similar to his own. The difference was that, with the energy provided by the Golden Core, he had actively severed his connection with the universe, while Lao Miao seemed to be forced to do so, as the glow of his bio-energy field had dimmed.
So, did Lao Miao seem to be dying?
Did he truly sense his own impending death?
Observing Aunt Wang's energy field more closely,
Fang Yi discovered that she still had over thirty "lines" connecting to the universe, each composed of millions of trillions of particles. Over fifty more were broken, with no visible particles within them.
He tried to touch the intact line closest to the break, but was unable to reach it. Like trying to reach the moon in water, his soul had passed through Aunt Wang's lifeline.
Fang Yi pondered for a moment, then used the statue model he had just constructed, infused it with Golden Elixir energy, and touched it again.
Something magical happened again!
He saw everything Aunt Wang had done from birth to the present. He
even saw 13,694,328 possible transformations she might take in the future.
Of course, this was just a sight; if he didn't actively record it, he wouldn't remember everything.
The ending was fixed, but the process was free and varied.
Fang Yi had guessed this before, and now it was confirmed.
Then he had another question.
Could a single line represent a year of human lifespan?
Broken lines represent lives lost?
Fang Yi tried to touch the broken lines on Lao Miao again, hoping to gain biographical information. Unfortunately, this time, no information was obtained, as if the transmission line had been severed, making it impossible to access the document. That doesn't make sense.
I've also lost contact with the universe, so why can I search for information?
Does he need to enter a state of "unity with nature" to search for Lao Miao's life particles?
Touching Aunt Wang's lifeline only for a moment would not consume much energy.
Fang Yi didn't have the energy to waste searching Lao Miao's life information the way he had searched for his own.
He noted the number of broken lines on each of them: Aunt Wang had fifty-four, Lao Miao had sixty-seven.
He wanted to determine if a line represented a year of a person's lifespan.
His thoughts returned to his body again.
Fang Yi turned his head and looked, "Lao Miao, how old are you this year?"
"Sixty-eight, what?" Lao Miao asked with a frown.
Sixty-eight is not right...
Hey, Fang Yi remembered that people in the village only count their age in lunar calendar.
In other words, if you count the actual age, Lao Miao is exactly sixty-seven!
Fang Yi felt a sense of fear and quickly looked at Aunt Wang who had just finished burning incense, "Aunt Wang, how old are you?"
Aunt Wang said, "Fifty-five, why do you ask?" That
's right again!
Is Lao Miao really not going to live much longer?
Fang Yi never thought that he had simulated the special energy field constructed by the statue of the god, and actually had the ability to see people's lives.
He was happy and regretful. He was happy that he had mastered the ability to transcend nature, but regretful that Lao Miao was going to die.
"Nothing, just asking, you seem to be in good spirits, you don't look like a man in his fifties." Fang Yi shook his head.
Aunt Wang smiled at the compliment. "Xiao Yi, you're really good at talking. Okay, I'll stop talking to you. I need to take my old man to the hospital, and it's better to go early."
She started to leave.
Fang Yi had been thinking of leaving too. Although he knew Lao Miao's time was running out, he truly couldn't help him reconnect with the universe.
Unless he offered his own golden elixir, but once it was gone, his biological energy field would deplete over time, and he would die.
He couldn't do such a great thing as sacrificing himself for someone else's benefit.
But then something struck him. He pulled out his wallet again, counted out 127 yuan, and handed it to Lao Miao. "Thank you so much for today."
Grandma Wu said speechlessly, "Why give him money?"
"What's it to you?" Lao Miao was a little confused, but he quickly spoke up. He took the money and said to Fang Yi with a beaming smile, "It's okay. Villagers help each other."
Aunt Wang glanced at him, also puzzled.
Fang Yi said nothing more, turned around, and walked out.
After walking about ten meters,
Aunt Wang caught up with him. "Xiaoyi, why did you give him money? Did he blackmail you? Tell me, I'm asking for it back for you. It's not easy for you to earn your money, so why should you give it to him?"
Aunt Wang was quite helpful.
But Fang Yi shook his head. "He didn't blackmail me, so just consider it a gift."
"Gift? What gift?" Aunt Wang became increasingly confused.
Fang Yi couldn't help but sigh and went straight home without saying anything.
When someone dies in the village, the standard gift for a banquet is two hundred yuan.
Lao Miao had few relatives, and now that he was about to die, Fang Yi collected two hundred yuan for him, considering it a gift.
In other words, to ensure that he could have a good meal before he passed away.
He couldn't afford to extend his life, so this was all he could do, a small gesture of his help.
Of course, this was just Fang Yi's guess.
He really wasn't sure whether Lao Miao was about to die.
If he guessed wrong, it didn't matter; two hundred yuan was just a token of his care for the lonely elderly.
...and then
he returned home.
Perhaps it was because he'd expended too much mental energy today.
Fang Yi felt incredibly sleepy. As soon as he entered the room, he rushed straight to the upstairs bedroom and fell asleep quickly.
One hour.
Three hours.
He didn't know how many hours he'd slept.
He only woke up slowly when he heard shouts from downstairs.
Fang Yi checked his phone and saw it was already two in the afternoon.
He'd slept for eight hours.
And he felt refreshed.
He was starving.
So, Fang Yi went downstairs to find something to eat.
As soon as he got downstairs, he saw his mother pushing her electric scooter.
"Mom, where are you going?" Fang Yi asked.
"Lao Miao died. I'm going to help." His mother pointed to the kitchen. "The food is in the cupboard. You can help yourself. And you and your dad should heat it up tonight. I won't be home to eat."
Huh?
Lao Miao really had passed away?
Fang Yi hadn't expected his earlier observation to come true.
A tangle of emotions washed over him.
He was finally certain of one thing.
He was no longer an ordinary person.
He was... an extraordinary being.
But Fang Yi still had a question.
Is there anyone else in this world who is a transcendent like me?
Or... am I the only transcendent?
