Chapter 5 The cause of death is found
Zhou Ning shook his head.
"Xu Da, you just said that I should check more things, but I didn't understand."
Xu Dayuan chuckled twice.
"Don't come on, you guys are all at an age of excitement, pretending to be innocent in front of me, what do you want to investigate?"
As Xu Da raised his hand, Zhou Ning quickly dodged it, but a flash of light came into his mind and he understood what Xu Dayuan meant. It was just Chu's hymen, why was he doing it in secret?
"I understand, I understand!"
Xu Dayuan put down his hand and put on his hat, as if he was not the one who was about to hit someone.
"By the way, do you have any new progress?"
Zhou Ning felt a little embarrassed. Could he say that if the school badge hadn’t pierced me, I wouldn’t have noticed?
"I just talked to my master on the phone. I measured this..."
"Tell me the result."
"We estimate the time of death to be between 2:00 and 3:00 a.m. on September 27. My master will come over after giving the injection later, and we will start the autopsy then. I have never performed this independently."
Xu Dayuan glanced at the time. It was already 11:40. It would not be realistic to start working at noon.
"Okay, inform me as soon as the cause of death is known. By the way, this police pass is for you."
With that, Xu Dayuan threw the police map to Zhou Ning and turned away. Zhou Ning flipped through it from top to bottom and felt that it looked familiar. Isn't this the one that Xiao Liu had?
Zhou Ning was speechless . He took a look at the corpse and his stomach started to growl.
I'm hungry. What should I do for lunch if they just leave like that?
Zhou Ning opened the door and went out, and sure enough, Xiao Liu was gone. He sighed.
There's no point in complaining. If you delay your lunch any longer, it will be ruined.
He ran out and went straight to the morgue. Unexpectedly, Xiao Liu was squatting there smoking with an old man. When he saw Zhou Ning coming, he subconsciously put the cigarette behind him.
"Xiao Zhou, you scared me. Why did you come out?"
Zhou Ning heaved a sigh of relief when he saw someone he knew. Although he wasn't scared, it definitely felt bad to be alone with the corpse, even though the girl had been so beautiful.
"Please help me put the body into the freezer first, and then do the autopsy in the afternoon after dinner."
Xiao Liu and the old man both stood up and put out their cigarettes together. It was obvious that the old man was in charge of the morgue, a job that no young person would be willing to do.
The three men packed the body into a bag and put it into the refrigerator on a flatbed cart. Zhou Ning took off his clothes and washed his hands several times before leaving the autopsy room.
Xiao Liu bared his teeth at Zhou Ning and raised a bag in his hand.
"It's sent from the hospital cafeteria. Where can we eat it?"
Without waiting for Zhou Ning to speak, the old man pointed to the pavilion on the south side of the yard, where there was a stone table and stone benches.
Zhou Ning didn't act pretentiously. He asked someone to deliver boxed lunches to the cafeteria. It was probably because Forensic Doctor Liu had this habit before, and he didn't want to eat in the autopsy room.
Although I don't mind it, when I was doing the autopsy in the afternoon, the smell of food wafted in, and I felt uncomfortable in my stomach just thinking about it.
Pulling the old man along, the three of them had a pretty good meal. They had braised chili peppers, braised saury, roast pork, spicy and sour shredded potatoes, four boxes of vegetables, and four boxes of rice. They devoured them all in no time.
After all, there was plenty of time, and the three of them chatted a lot. Zhou Ning also learned that Xiao Liu's name was Liu Yong, and his father was a traffic policeman. He hoped that he could get a regular job, so he followed him as an auxiliary police officer first.
Zhou Ning drank a bottle of water, rested for a while, looked at the time and it was already half past one, then he called Forensic Doctor Liu.
“Master!”
"You installed surveillance, didn't you? I just got an injection here, waiting for my wife to push me over."
Liu Yong packed up the things very quickly. The old man waved his hand and went to the morgue. He and Liu Yong had to go to take the body out.
Zhou Ning stood up and looked towards the path on the south side of the yard. From what Forensic Doctor Liu said, he deduced that he was in the county hospital.
After waiting for a while, forensic doctor Liu came over, pushed by his wife. Seeing the plaster on his leg, Zhou Ning knew that he would have to do the autopsy himself.
He hurried forward and greeted Forensic Doctor Liu's wife. Forensic Doctor Liu asked his wife to go back first and call to pick him up later. His wife didn't say anything, but her face was full of worry.
"Don't worry, Auntie. I won't let Forensic Doctor Liu do anything. He will just help me check. After all, this is my first autopsy and I'm really unsure."
Taking the wheelchair, Zhou Ning quickly explained.
The woman waved her hand.
"I know it's not easy for you. Go quickly. If you need to go to the toilet, hold it in. Don't let the young man do it to you. It's embarrassing."
Forensic Doctor Liu’s face turned red.
"Go away, you nag!"
Zhou Ning didn't dare to laugh and pushed Forensic Doctor Liu to the autopsy room. As soon as he came in and saw the body, Forensic Doctor Liu put on his reading glasses and asked Liu to help him stand up with difficulty.
"It's tragic enough. Have you found the deceased's information?"
Zhou Ning gave a brief introduction and handed the current information he had summarized, as well as the results of the external examination of the body, to Forensic Doctor Liu, and of course the X-ray film, which Zhou Ning could not quite understand.
"Boy, you did a good job. Xiao Liu, get me a taller chair, the one next to the microscope. Yes, yes, yes!"
Xiao Liu was directed to find a liftable chair. Forensic Doctor Liu sat on it and used his uninjured foot to push the ground to move to the other side of the dissection table.
"Take off the clothes and start the surface examination. Then you can start the autopsy. Don't worry. Everyone has a first time. I'm here for you if you make a mistake. It doesn't matter if you are slow. I'll tell you the steps. First, do the routine and then focus on the puncture wound between the right ribs."
Zhou Ning nodded. After a whole morning of torture and digesting the forensic on-site learning in the afternoon, he was no longer as confused as he was in the morning. With Forensic Doctor Liu beside him, he felt much more confident.
When Liu Yong heard that an autopsy was required, he rushed out.
Zhou Ning was dressed neatly, gave forensic doctor Liu a mask and a retractable pole, and stood beside the autopsy bed, holding a pair of scissors, and cut off the deceased's clothes and placed them on the table next to him. He also removed the branch stuck under his left calf.
Zhou Ning recorded the external features of the corpse one by one, from the pupil, conjunctiva, nasal cavity, oral cavity, vulva and toes, following the instructions of forensic doctor Liu step by step, and observed and recorded carefully.
After doing all this, Zhou Ning looked up at Forensic Doctor Liu, who was slapping the rod in his hand on the dissection table.
"Don't just stand there. Let's get started. Use the probe to check the wound at the lower edge of the ribs."
Zhou Ning wore two layers of latex gloves, crossed his fingers, and made the gloves fit his hands perfectly. He picked up a blunt-tipped probe and tried to insert it into the point-shaped wound at the lower edge of the deceased's ribs. The probe was inserted most of the way in but it seemed not to have reached the bottom.
It sways from side to side, but has little range of motion.
Forensic Doctor Liu exclaimed, and stretched his head to look over here.
"It's deep enough. Use a longer probe and measure the width of the wound. It's such a narrow wound. How could it be so deep?"
Zhou Ning changed to a thicker probe with a flatter head and carefully inserted it into the wound. This time he reached the bottom and it seemed that the front end could still move up and down.
I measured the length and it was 185 mm, and the width was only 6 mm. I used a magnifying glass to observe the edge of the wound. I saw a pointed tip protruding outside the circle on both sides, and the two points were at the same level. I also found some black grease mixed in the coagulated blood clots.
Zhou Ning scraped off the grease with a blade, placed it on a glass slide, and handed it to forensic doctor Liu.
"Master, there is such a dark grease on the wound. I don't know what it is. But the wound is so narrow. Such a thin and long weapon..."
Zhou Ning paused and saw that Forensic Doctor Liu was also staring at him with an encouraging look.
"A screwdriver. It's an extremely long and thin screwdriver. I see a lot of people who repair computers use this kind of thing."
Forensic Doctor Liu slapped his thigh, and the action vibrated his injured leg, causing him to grimace in pain.
"You're not bad, kid. The analysis shows that the piercing pierced the lower edge of the ribs. The victim's organs must be severely damaged. Cut it out quickly, but be careful with your hands! As for the fat sampling, we'll send it for inspection later."
Zhou Ning looked at Forensic Doctor Liu with gratitude. This old man already knew what the murder weapon was and was just waiting for his judgment. Such a master was really touching.
Without further ado, he took the scalpel and began to cut in a straight line, slicing the chest and abdominal walls from the neck to the lower abdomen. As soon as he made the cut, he saw that the abdominal cavity was filled with black and purple blood clots.
"Never mind that, just take the sample and continue."
Zhou Ning nodded and did as he was told. He then separated the muscle tissue and ribs, checked the lungs and heart, and took out the contents of the stomach.
Each one was held up for forensic doctor Liu to see, who kept correcting Zhou Ning's movements. From the trembling moment he cut into the flesh to the final examination of each organ, he had completely forgotten how nervous he was.
After clearing most of the clotted blood, when Zhou Ning was about to check the spleen, forensic doctor Liu hit Zhou Ning's arm with his pole.
"Don't rush to operate the knife. Look at the position where the lower edge of the right rib was pierced. Did it injure the spleen?"
Zhou Ning held up the probe and poked it into the wound site. Sure enough, the spleen moved. Forensic Doctor Liu nodded with satisfaction.
"It's settled. The cause of death has been found."
Zhou Ning paused.
"Master, does that mean the end of the dissection?"
