Chapter 48: Cold Corpse Appears
Liu Xiaojing's appearance really scared me. Zheng Qing told me that Liu Xiaojing's appearance was normal. He had experienced it once before, and this was Liu Xiaojing's second time. It only lasted a few minutes, but Liu Xiaojing actually spoke, which scared him. Liu Xiaojing told Zheng Qing that she was not an appearance, but came from the corpse ship to do something. Zheng Qing didn't know what the corpse ship was about, and this was his first time seeing it.
"No matter what, Liu Xiaojing has returned to the corpse ship, which makes me feel relieved. Maybe Liu Xiaojing will never come back from now on, even if it is just a dream."
It's a little scary. I feel like it's not over yet, it's not that simple.
I returned to the office and found the dead flower dead. I was stunned. Liu Xiaojing was gone, so Hua'er was dead. Could what Zheng Qing said be true? If so, it would be a wonderful thing. I didn't want to see Liu Xiaojing again. It really scared me.
I hoped that this matter would just pass like this, but unexpectedly, something happened to Bai Jie. When Bai Jie was learning makeup with Master Yi Qiuju, a big thing happened. Master Yi called me to the corner of the crematorium office and said to me.
"Something happened to Bai Jie. She didn't do what I asked. I went to the bathroom, and when I came back, Bai Jie was gone. It's my fault for being careless. But there is a way to get Bai Jie back, but..."
I was stunned. Something happened to Bai Jie? She's gone? What does that mean?
"What's the meaning?"
"Bai Jie disappeared in the dressing room."
"It's possible that he went somewhere else."
"You should understand what I mean. She disappeared in the dressing room. She didn't go anywhere else."
"What does this mean?"
Yi Qiuju took me to the dressing room. The work was over. Bai Jie's work clothes were placed on the chair, and other things were also on the table.
"Why is she gone?"
"Makeup artists have a lot of taboos. I've explained this very clearly to Bai Jie, and not just once. I've been watching her every time she's working, and I've reminded her whenever she encounters a taboo. I thought she'd remember it after so many times, but she hasn't."
"How could it disappear?"
"Makeup artists have a biggest taboo, just like you refiners. They have different taboos that must never be violated. That is, tie the black thread on the feet: men on the left and women on the right. Everyone knows this, but Bai Jie tied it the wrong way around, and something went wrong."
I remembered Bai Jie telling me that she didn't know left from right. I thought it was funny at the time. It was impossible, but she really didn't know left from right. If she tied it the wrong way, what would happen? It was just a black line, so what?
"A black line, what can it do?"
"That's also called a soul-binding thread. Everyone has a soul. Before the body is burned, it will be inside the body, or around the body. If you don't tie this black thread, the soul may be entangled with you, especially an evil soul. People are divided into good and evil, and the same is true for souls. Souls can seduce people and be taken away, taken to another world, in exchange for ten years of life in the next world."
I understood and broke out in a sweat. Just like a refiner, Master Yun Zheng told me that when carrying a corpse into the furnace, the head should be in first, not the other way around. Otherwise, there will be big problems. As a refiner, you might die inexplicably. Master Yun Zheng didn't say anything else.
When I think about it this way, it’s a bit scary. What I’m facing now is Bai Jie’s disappearance.
"What should we do then?"
"The soul naturally has its own path and door. I can't find it, but someone else can. That person is your master. I want you to ask him for help. I don't have any dealings with him. I'm really sorry."
I didn't think it would be like this. Master Yunzheng really didn't talk to Master Yi. I don't know what the grudge between the two of them had. In the crematorium, some things are inexplicable.
I went to see Master Yunzheng. He was resting today and drinking at home. He always drinks and seems to have a lot on his mind, but it also seems like he doesn't.
"Let's drink together."
"Master, I won't drink anymore. Something happened to Bai Jie."
I told him the whole story, and then Master Yunzheng threw the glass of wine on the table, spilling it, and I looked at him.
"What on earth does this Yi Qiuju want to do?"
I was stunned. What was Master Yi up to? This was just an accident. Could there be something else going on?
I don’t know, I really don’t know at all and I’m not sure.
"Master, what should I do?"
"This is not something to be rushed. Go to the crematorium."
I followed Master Yun to the crematorium, and he took me into the director's office. Master Yun Zheng explained the situation to the director, who sighed after a long moment.
"Master Yun, thank you for your concern. Maybe it was just an accident. After that incident, Master Yi will never do it again. So, don't hold any grudges against me. Now we just need to get Bai Jie back."
This is the first time I heard Master Yunzheng scolding someone. It seems he is really angry.
Master Yi pushed the door open and said to Master Yunzheng when he saw him.
"I knew you would come and complain. I am responsible for this matter, but I..."
"Shut up."
Master Yunzheng stood up, and the director came over and held Master Yunzheng down.
"You have to do this. That's your apprentice."
After Master Yi finished speaking, he left. Master Yunzheng was so angry that he wanted to curse again.
That day, Master Yun Zheng came to my house to drink, and my father accompanied him. I drank a little and then stopped, and sat aside watching. I was anxious. Master Yun Zheng didn't even mention Bai Jie's matter. This made me really anxious. Maybe Master Yun Zheng had his own way.
The next day, Master Yunzheng went to the dressing room, which was empty. Master Yi was in another dressing room. The place where the accident happened would be closed for a month or half a month.
Master Yunzheng sat there, smoked a cigarette, and then lay down on the dressing bed.
"Follow my instructions."
I was stunned for a moment, then stood up with sweat in my palms. What was Master Yun Zheng going to do?
"I will be unconscious in a while, so don't be nervous. Lock the door and stay with me. Don't leave until I wake up."
"Master, how about I do it?"
"You, you're looking for death. Okay, there's a black string in the second drawer. Tie it to my left foot, then tie the other black string to the dressing table. Cover me with a white sheet. Now, you have to watch over me. When I react, look at the sheet. When there's air blowing, you tear the black string. Remember, this is a matter of my life."
I was so nervous that my hands were shaking as I tied the black string. I should have told Master Yi that Bai Jie couldn't tell left from right, but she didn't. Master Yi didn't even notice. It was like he was about to die. Bai Jie probably didn't take this seriously. She'd been a refiner, so what was a makeup artist? In fact, people who had just arrived thought those taboos were just a joke, just superstition. If something went wrong once, they'd never dare to do it again. They were so nervous, it was like they were about to die.
After I covered Master Yun with the sheet, I sat in a chair, watching and observing. It was a good look. At first, the sheet moved, but then it became completely still. It was impossible for a person not to breathe. I sweated. If Master Yun got hurt again, I was afraid it would be troublesome.
I waited there until midnight but there was no response. I wanted to call Master Yi, but I held back.
When it was dawn, there was still no response. I became anxious and called Master Yi to tell him about it.
"Don't worry, nothing's wrong. Your master is afraid of death and cherishes his life. Don't worry about him. Just keep watch."
After Master Yi said that, I relaxed a little, but I was still nervous.
Until dark the next day, the black line actually started to move, as if something was pulling it, and it kept moving. I jumped up and hid aside, staring at it. I felt something was unusual. The master didn't tell me. Did something unexpected happen?
I immediately called Master Yi to ask.
"How do you move?"
Master Yi’s voice made me feel scared. She was nervous.
"It's moving in jumps and jumps, and now it's getting faster and faster."
"Wait for me, don't do anything, I'll be there soon."
Master Yi was anxious. She ran in, sweating profusely. I opened the door and she came in and looked at the black line. The black line kept jumping. She stared at it for a while and said.
"This is really troublesome. This soul is so powerful that it is hard to encounter even in a hundred years. No wonder Bai Jie was seduced away."
"what to do?"
I was anxious and asked Master Yi .
"I really don't want to save this bastard."
Master Yi asked me to pull a cot in from the morgue. I brought the cot in, and she placed it next to Master Yun and lay down on it.
"Just do the same as he did."
I was so panicked that I tied the black string and covered the body with the sheet. When I was done, the sheet that Master Yi had been moving stopped moving, and the black string stopped jumping, except for the occasional one. I was still nervous. In the middle of the night, Master Yi suddenly woke up with a cry of "Ah!" The sheet had moved. I immediately tore the black string apart, and Master Yi sat up, sweating profusely and pale.
"Help me down."
I helped Master Yi down.
"It's okay. Your master should be back before dawn. Don't tell him what I did."
After Master Yi passed away, I sent the corpse bed back, ran back, and stared at Master.
It was almost dawn when Master Yunzheng suddenly sat up and I screamed in fright.
"What's that? You scared me."
I went up and pulled the black thread apart, and Master Yunzheng came down and said.
"Bai Jie will come home at dawn, and everything will be fine in two or three days."
Master Yunzheng walked out, a little swaying, and looked very tired.
I followed him out and when I got home, my father had already gotten up. He looked at me and frowned.
"What have you been busy with all this time?"
"It's okay. There's a lot going on in the field."
I didn't want to tell my father too much, so I had breakfast, sat for a while, and then went to Bai Jie's house.
I went to Bai Jie's house, but she didn't come back. I was a little stunned. Her parents didn't know what happened. They were not too worried about Bai Jie's absence because they knew she was dating you. Sometimes Bai Jie would stay at my place.
I waited until after nine o'clock, and heard the door open. Bai Jie came in, her face pale and dazed. She didn't talk to anyone and just lay on the bed to sleep. I felt relieved. Everything was fine. Everything would be fine as long as she came back.
I stayed for more than an hour and then went home to sleep.
When I woke up, it was dark. I went to Bai Jie's house and she was eating. Everything seemed normal. I wanted to ask her where Bai Jie had gone.
After dinner, Bai Jie said she was very tired and wanted to sleep, so she fell asleep. I thought I would know sooner or later.
After leaving Bai Jie's house, I went to sit by the river. After my mother left, I liked sitting by the river. The river seemed to be able to take away my pain.
When I got home , my father was waiting for me.
"What on earth happened?"
I said it, and my father looked at me for a long time before speaking.
"If you feel the crematorium isn't for you, forget it. Don't do it. I feel a little uneasy."
"It's okay. I like it this way. Everything is normal."
My father stopped talking. That day I went back to my room to read and didn't fall asleep until midnight.
