Chapter 4 I'll Share Half of the Milk with You 1
Qian Mengmeng yawned as she stood in front of a five-star hotel, looking up at the towering building and exclaiming in amazement: "I really don't understand the world of the rich."
If Pei Haochuan hadn't asked her to, she probably would never have stepped into a five-star hotel in her life and come here specifically to buy a simple breakfast.
The incident happened half an hour ago. Qian Mengmeng, who did not have morning classes, was still asleep when she received a call from Pei Haochuan. Pei Haochuan continued to do as he pleased. After instructing him to have breakfast at a five-star hotel before morning classes, he hung up the phone without caring about Qian Mengmeng's reaction.
Qian Mengmeng flipped through the text messages on her phone and read the menu Pei Haochuan requested: "French bread, Italian milk-fried eggs, black coffee..."
In her opinion, there was no need to go to a five-star hotel to buy these things, and they could be bought at any supermarket. However, the money was not hers after all, and it was not her turn to feel bad, so she just complained in her heart and obediently walked into the hotel.
Needless to say, the service of the star-rated hotel was excellent. Qian Mengmeng simply and was cordially welcomed to the dining area. After a short wait, she left the hotel with her breakfast in a delicate take-away box. The sweet scent permeated the air, mixed with the fragrance of flowers, bringing a soothing atmosphere. Qian Mengmeng touched her rumbling stomach and remembered that she had left in a hurry and had not had time to eat breakfast.
She glanced at the breakfast stall that had been set up in front of a primary school not far away, then looked at the team gathered in a circle, swallowed her saliva, and decided to put aside her ego and deliver breakfast to Pei Haochuan first, and then solve her own food and clothing problem.
There was less than half an hour left before the time Pei Haochuan requested. Qian Mengmeng had a psychological trauma from the last accident, so she did not choose this mode of transportation again, but decided to walk back to school. She had just taken two steps when a familiar voice came from behind, calling her with a little uncertainty: "Mengmeng?"
Qian Mengmeng turned around and saw Wen Yuzheng, and asked in surprise: "Brother Yuzheng, why are you here? Ah, that's not right." She felt that her question was not right, so she changed the topic and said: "Brother Yuzheng, isn't your company quite far from here? Why are you here during working hours?"
Wen Yu was wearing a black casual suit, his short black hair was neatly combed behind his head, and he wore a pair of black-framed glasses on his nose. He smiled with a gentle temperament, "I have a contract to hand over to the client in person. I just finished it and happened to pass by here."
He glanced at the paper box with the hotel's name printed on it in Qian Mengmeng's hand, then looked up at the luxuriously decorated star-rated hotel. He tilted his head slightly, looking puzzled: "Mengmeng, what are you doing?"
Qian Mengmeng understood and explained with a smile: "I wouldn't buy food here myself, I buy it for others."
"If you want to eat, I'll take you there." Wen Yu was listening to her say this, a trace of heartache flashed across his face, he raised his watch to check the time, and said gently, "It's time for me to have breakfast too, can you join me?"
Although she really wanted to taste what breakfast in a five-star hotel tasted like, her family had received too much care from the Wen family since they fell into poverty, and she had not yet repaid them. In addition, Wen Yuzheng had helped her develop the "Happy Delivery" app free of charge last time, and she had never been able to repay him, so she didn't dare to owe him more now.
So, she shook her head violently and refused: "No need, Brother Yuzheng. If I don't send this breakfast over, it will get cold. I'll treat you to a meal next time when I have time. Just consider it as a thank you for helping me last time."
"That's all trivial. You don't have to..." Wen Yu was listening to her refusal. His eyes hidden under the black-framed glasses drooped in disappointment. Then, as if he had thought of something, he suddenly said to her, "Wait for me here for a while."
Qian Mengmeng stood there in confusion, watching Wen Yu running away from her and into the hotel. After a while, he hurried out again and stuffed a bottle of hot milk into her hand. A sweet smell lingered at her nose.
"Milk?" She took it puzzled, looked at it carefully, and said in surprise.
"Well, this is the only thing we can pack up and take away right now, but it's also good to warm up our stomach." Wen Yuzheng narrowed his eyes slightly, smiled gently, and reminded with concern, "Mengmeng, don't starve yourself to save money, okay? If your body collapses, everything will collapse. If you have any difficulties in the future, remember to find me first, don't try to handle it alone. After all, I ..."
He paused for some reason when he said this. Seeing Qian Mengmeng looking at him in confusion, he smiled and said, "After all, I am your neighbor's brother. It is only natural for me to take care of you."
Qian Mengmeng held the bottle of milk tightly in her hand, and the warm temperature went straight into her heart. She patted Wen Yuzheng's shoulder in a generous manner and said with a smile: "I know, worrying brother Yuzheng, I will not starve myself even if I starve others, so don't worry."
After watching Wen Yuzheng leave, Qian Mengmeng didn't even have time to drink her milk, and rushed to the agreed small garden. Pei Haochuan had already sat on the bench waiting, with an original English book on his knees, reading silently.
Qian Mengmeng sat down on the bench, raised the box, and said breathlessly: "Morning, breakfast is here!"
Pei Haochuan raised his watch to check the time, frowned slightly, and said in a flat voice: "You are two minutes late."
"Do you know how difficult it is to run all the way back to school from the hotel you designated, as fast as I did?"
From the experience of getting along with each other for several days, Qian Mengmeng has understood Pei Haochuan's personality. He has some of the stereotypes of a science guy, and is very demanding on time and details, not only to Qian Mengmeng, but also to himself. On the other hand, he is also naive, like a rich young master who doesn't understand the people's feelings. So in order to deal with him, Qian Mengmeng changed her strategy early, from the initial competitive and aggressive to the current emotional and persuasive.
Pei Haochuan looked at her with an incomprehensible expression: "Why did you run back? Can't you take a car?"
"Taking a taxi is expensive, okay?" Qian Mengmeng quickly took out the change for breakfast from her pocket. That was the breakfast money he had directly deposited into her bank account in the morning, which she replaced with an equal amount of cash. "You mean, the breakfast money also includes my round-trip taxi fare? You never said that!"
Pei Haochuan looked at her, as if he didn't understand why such a matter of course had to be specifically explained.
Qian Mengmeng pounded her legs, which were numb from running all the way, and slumped down on the bench, staring blankly at the sky with a look of despair on her face. After a while, she suddenly had an idea, sat up straight, came over and asked with a smile: "Since I ran here, should the saved fare belong to me?"
"You're two minutes late." Pei Haochuan said as he took the remaining money from her hand, "So, confiscate it."
Qian Mengmeng was speechless for a moment as she looked at her empty hands. She curled her lips and muttered softly, "Humph, you stingy guy."
The breakfast in the box was still warm. Pei Haochuan picked up the soft bread and opened his mouth to take a bite, but suddenly he felt a strong gaze staring at him. He looked in the direction of the gaze in confusion, only to see Qian Mengmeng turning her head away guiltily, holding her stomach, pretending to be nothing.
The "gurgling" sound is unusually loud in this quiet garden.
Pei Haochuan paused, turned his head and asked, "Didn't I ask you to buy breakfast? Didn't you eat something there?"
"I can't afford the sky-high breakfast ." Qian Mengmeng shook her head and said self-deprecatingly, then waved her hand and urged, "Eat yours, don't worry about me, I'm not hungry."
"I'll give you half."
"Really? Actually, no need. I'm not that hungry."
Pei Haochuan saw that her eyes were almost glued to the bread in his hand, but she was trying hard to pretend that she didn't care. He couldn't help but curl the corners of his lips, but he was afraid that she would find out, so he quickly became serious and slowly tore the bread in the middle: "Don't worry, you don't have to pay. I gave it to you because I felt sorry for you."
Qian Mengmeng swallowed, took the bread from his hand, but did not eat it immediately. Instead, she stared at it with a thoughtful expression.
Pei Haochuan bit off his half of the bread and asked vaguely, "What's wrong? Doesn't it suit your taste?"
"I never take other people's things for free, otherwise I will feel guilty." Qian Mengmeng rummaged in her pocket with her free hand but found nothing. She looked around and saw the bottle of milk. She immediately said, "I have a bottle of hot milk here. I'll give you half. This way we're even!"
Pei Haochuan looked at her with sparkling eyes without saying a word. He thought he didn't like such fussing, but when these words came out of Qian Mengmeng's mouth, they inexplicably revealed a bit of cuteness.
He took the milk and said leisurely, "Then I will accept it with reluctance for the sake of your conscience."
Qian Mengmeng felt relieved and started eating happily. At first, she wanted to maintain her image in front of Pei Haochuan, so she ate in small bites, but she hadn't eaten breakfast since she got up early, and she had been running for so long, so she was already starving. Seeing that Pei Haochuan didn't look at her, she started eating in big mouthfuls.
Pei Haochuan ate slowly and methodically, with the aristocratic manners often seen in TV dramas. Qian Mengmeng even finished her milk, but he was still eating his piece of bread slowly.
She stretched lazily with satisfaction, but when she turned around, she saw Pei Haochuan had finished the bread in his hand and was staring at her with a complicated expression. She couldn't help but say guiltily, "What are you doing? I ate up the half you gave me. Even if you don't have enough, you can't take it back."
"Look at you. I won't take back what I gave away." Pei Haochuan said with a faint look of disdain, "This is the first time I see a girl get her mouth dirty while eating."
Upon hearing this, Qian Mengmeng immediately took out a tissue and wiped her mouth. The bits of bread crumbs reminded her how ferociously she had wolfed down the food just now. Her cheeks flushed with embarrassment. She pinched the tissue and pretended to be calm, "This means I enjoy the meal. Only by tasting every inch of the food can I give the best feedback to the chef and the money I spent!"
"You have quite a few crooked ideas." Pei Haochuan smiled helplessly and pointed at the corner of his lips, "Here, there's more."
"What else?" Qian Mengmeng quickly wiped it with a tissue, "What about now? What else..."
Before she could finish her question, a voice interrupted her, and then a force pushed her to the side from the middle of the bench. The person who pushed her sat between her and Pei Haochuan as if nothing had happened, and asked with a smile: "Anything else? You guys seem to be having a great time chatting, mind adding me in?"
Qian Mengmeng rubbed her shoulder that was hurt by Mi Su's collision, and looked at Mi Su in confusion. She didn't know what was going on. When she first met her, she thought she was very gentle, but in the two times she met, she either pushed her or squeezed her. In short, she was not friendly to her once.
Pei Haochuan didn't seem surprised by Mi Su's arrival. He closed the book, looked at Mi Su, smiled faintly, and asked as usual: "Have you had breakfast?"
"I've eaten it a long time ago." Mi Su saw the take-away box beside his legs and said it in a high and coquettish voice, as if she was deliberately telling someone, "Haochuan, don't eat here next time. It's windy and sandy. Let's eat together from now on. And..."
Haochuan? It's only been a few days, and their relationship has become so good?
She glanced at Qian Mengmeng, and deliberately moved closer to Pei Haochuan, her fingers around his arm, her body slightly leaning forward, and whispering in his ear. I don't know what she said, but Pei Haochuan's eyes lit up, and he asked hurriedly: "What's next?"
"After that..." Mi Su smiled, but did not continue. She looked at Qian Mengmeng with her bright eyes and blinked at her silently.
This is driving her away!
Qian Mengmeng understood that this was Mi Su's order to expel her. Her eyes paused on Mi Su's arm around Pei Haochuan's, then she stood up slowly and said helplessly, "Then you guys talk slowly, I'm leaving first... Am I really leaving?"
Pei Haochuan was completely attracted by the topic Mi Su was talking about. When he heard that she was leaving, he just nodded randomly, pretending to know. His eyes were full of curiosity and expectation, but he was looking at Mi Su instead of Qian Mengmeng.
Qian Mengmeng walked out of the small garden, turned around and saw them talking happily. For some reason, she suddenly felt a sour feeling in her heart, and the sour feeling spread very quickly. After a while, she felt uncomfortable all over, especially her heart and eyes. It should have been a pleasing scene, but she felt it was very annoying. Her heart felt like a soft thorn. It didn't hurt but it reminded her of her existence all the time.
"Am I sick?" Qian Mengmeng hid behind a tree and tapped her head. She thought hard for a while but couldn't come up with any clues. She decided to blame the hotel for this and muttered to herself, "It must be that the food in the hotel is incompatible with my body, which is why I became so weird. I will never eat it again."
She couldn't help but stick her head out and observe them quietly. She saw that they were still chatting, scratching the bark with their fingers, and said indignantly: "You speak softly to Senior Sister Misu, but you are always fierce to me, what a black-hearted boss!"
