Chapter 35 Lin Yan
Imperial University of Peking.
This is one of the highest-level institutions of higher learning in China, and it is also the ivory tower of dreams for countless people.
The Imperial University of Peking was originally called the Imperial University of Peking. It was built in 1898 during the late Qing Dynasty and has a history of 81 years.
Walking along the path through the lush woods , you can see the most famous tower and lake on campus. There are many students by the lake. Some of these students are talking, some are strolling, and more are finding a place to sit down, holding a book, and reading attentively.
"Lin Yan! Lin Yan!"
A girl came running from a distance, calling Lin Yan's name.
Lin Yan, who was sitting by the lake reading a book, looked in the direction of the sound and waved to the girl.
"Why are you hiding here? If I had known, I wouldn't have gone to the library to find you." The girl ran a little out of breath, her little face flushed.
"There are too many people in the library, it's quiet here. Do you have something to talk to me about? You look sweaty from running. Wipe it off." Lin Yan asked with a smile, taking out a handkerchief from her pocket and handing it over.
The girl took it and wiped the sweat off her forehead, took a deep breath, and complained, "You are so leisurely, but your boyfriend has been waiting for you in the dormitory for a long time."
"Who?" Lin Yan looked at the other person in confusion.
"Zhao Minglei!"
"Him? He is not related to me. Don't say this again. I don't like to hear it." Lin Yan's smile suddenly disappeared and her expression became a little serious.
"Lin Yan, what's the matter? Isn't Zhao Minglei, whom your mother introduced to you, very outstanding?" the girl said with some surprise.
"You said she is my mother, but I didn't agree to this." Lin Yan replied indifferently.
After taking the college entrance examination and being admitted, Lin Yan began her college life. Compared with her life in the countryside in the northwest, the living conditions in the university are incomparable to before.
More importantly, Lin Yan was able to go home, back to the home that she missed so much, and be with her parents.
The study in university was very heavy, and Lin Yan studied eagerly. Apart from her studies, Lin Yan only missed her time in the countryside in the northwest, because there was someone there whom she could not forget.
Originally, Lin Yan thought that Song Yuanchao would be able to pass the college entrance examination last year and fulfill his promise to join her in Beijing. But after waiting for a long time, Song Yuanchao did not report until the start of the school. Later, Lin Yan finally found out that Song Yuanchao had fallen seriously ill after she left. It was because of this illness that Song Yuanchao failed the college entrance examination and did not get into the university.
Upon hearing this information, Lin Yan secretly cried. She was able to be admitted to the Imperial University of Peking entirely because of Song Yuanchao. If Song Yuanchao had not taken the initiative to give up his place for her and spared no effort to help her with tutoring, how could Lin Yan return to the capital from the northwest?
Although Song Yuanchao did not graduate from high school, he did study in a key high school for two years. What's more, Song Yuanchao's father was a teacher in a key high school. With Song Yuanchao's academic foundation, if he could review well, he would have a great chance of being admitted to university.
However, for his own sake, Song Yuanchao actually gave up this precious opportunity. Also for his own sake, Song Yuanchao lost a second rare opportunity .
Thinking of this, Lin Yan felt as if her heart was being stabbed by a knife. She wished she could turn back time and stop Song Yuanchao from giving up his place. She would rather it was Song Yuanchao who was in college now instead of her.
Lin Yan wrote a letter to Song Yuanchao, expressing her deep longing for him and encouraging him not to lose confidence. She was still looking forward to the day when she would meet Song Yuanchao again in the capital.
But for some reason, there was no reply to the letter. Lin Yan was not sure whether the letter did not reach Song Yuanchao or something else went wrong.
From October last year to now, Lin Yan has lost contact with Song Yuanchao. As time went by, the several letters she sent later fell into the sea.
Soon after returning to the capital, Lin Yan's parents resumed work and everything at home was going well. However, Lin Yan's heart was always concerned about Song Yuanchao, the man who sang "Little Swallow" to her, who had a bright smile, and who cared, loved and made her heart beat fast.
As her parents resumed work, Lin Yan's family situation improved a lot. In addition, Lin Yan is now a student at Imperial University, and in the eyes of others, she is a girl chosen from thousands.
Seeing that her daughter is not young anymore, Lin Yan's mother is naturally concerned about her daughter's lifelong affairs. Some time ago, Lin Yan's mother introduced a boy to Lin Yan. This boy is Zhao Minglei mentioned by the girl just now.
Zhao Minglei's father is the deputy leader of the district. His mother and Lin Yan's mother are old colleagues and acquaintances. It can be said that the Zhao family and the Lin family are old friends. When she was a child, Lin Yan had met Zhao Minglei, who was two years older than her. However, later on, their families encountered problems and they rarely interacted with each other.
Zhao Minglei was admitted to the Imperial University last year after taking the college entrance examination for the second time. He was handsome and a college student, so he looked very talented. Lin Yan's mother and Zhao Minglei's mother both thought that the two children were a perfect match, so they brought them together. However, compared to Zhao Minglei's enthusiasm, Lin Yan had no feelings for him at all, because there was already another person living in her heart.
"Lin Yan, Zhao Minglei has been waiting for you for a long time, why don't you go meet him?"
"I didn't ask him to wait. If he wants to wait, let him wait." Lin Yan said lightly.
In school, Lin Yan rarely participated in any activities, and she spent most of her time on studying. In addition to a few girls in the dormitory, Lin Yan didn't like to socialize with others. To outsiders, this beautiful girl seemed a little cold.
Lin Yan didn't want to meet Zhao Minglei. She knew exactly what Zhao Minglei would say to her. He would just express his admiration for her, show off his ridiculous knowledge and chat about domestic and international political topics. Lin Yan was not interested in any of this, and had no feelings for this promising young man in the eyes of others.
Feeling a little irritated, Lin Yan stood up and took the book and left. The girl behind her hurriedly asked: "Lin Yan! Are you really not going to see him? Where are you going?"
"No! Don't tell him you've seen me. I'm upset. I'm just going to take a walk by myself."
Lin Yan left a few words and walked away. Soon her figure disappeared beyond the woods.
Unconsciously, Lin Yan walked out of the campus and headed south along the familiar road. Perhaps it was a subconscious action. When she passed a bus stop, Lin Yan got on a bus. Half an hour later, she got off the bus and headed towards the alley in front.
This is a very common alley in the capital. There are many residential areas like this in the capital. The most common alleys are large courtyards. These courtyards used to be single-family houses, but later due to historical reasons, many people moved in. As the population increased, the original houses could no longer accommodate them, so the residents built many bungalows inside. As a result, the original house structure is no longer the same as it is now.
A long time ago, Lin Yan lived here for a period of time, which was an unforgettable period for her.
At that time, her parents were terminated from their jobs and transferred to other places. The eldest brother Lin Jianhang and the second brother Lin Yuhang were sent to the army to serve. Lin Yan, who had just graduated from elementary school, was driven out from her original residence. Fortunately, Aunt Gao, who had helped her family before, took Lin Yan to her own home, and she was able to get through the most difficult days.
Lin Yan lived in Gao Da's mother's house for several years until she took the initiative to sign up to go to the northwest. But in Lin Yan's heart, the compound in front of her was her second home.
Looking at the gate of the slum, Lin Yan couldn't help but recall the past years. A smile appeared on the corners of her mouth, as if time had gone back to that old time.
"Swallow? It's a swallow, right?"
Just as Lin Yan was standing outside the yard, staring blankly at the gate, a surprised voice sounded behind her.
