Chapter 33 Crisis
When he returned to the dormitory at night, the first thing Rock did was to see Luo Yi and the others who were recuperating in the dormitory.
It's a bit sad. Although Luo Yi and his friends were seriously injured, they were reluctant to stay in the hospital. After receiving simple treatment from Dr. Jonathan Jackson, they chose to return to the dormitory to recuperate. The cost of hospitalization was too expensive for them.
The British are indeed very generous when they are generous, but they clearly distinguish between public and private. When it is their responsibility to pay, they will not hesitate, but when it is not their responsibility, they will not pay a penny. Luo Yi and his friends were not injured in the workplace, so the British will not reimburse their medical expenses. Fortunately, Luo Yi and his friends now have some wealth, so they can still afford that amount of medical expenses.
"How do you feel?" Rock pushed open Luo Yi's door. Li De was chatting with Luo Yi in the room.
After the commando team was established, Rock applied to adjust the dormitories for all the commandos on the pretext of cultivating tacit understanding among the commandos. Luo Yi and Li De are now roommates.
"Master Luo--" Luo Yi struggled to get up. If it weren't for Rock, Luo Yi and the others would definitely not have gotten away with it so easily.
"Don't get up, just lie down and recuperate. And don't blame Martin for being ruthless. The inspector was watching you at the time. If someone else had come up, he would have been even more ruthless." Rock was worried that there would be a rift between the brothers, so he decided to make things clear in person.
"Don't worry, Master Luo. Luo Yi is not ungrateful. I have just asked brother Reed to buy a box of cigars and send it to brother Martin. This time it was Luo Yi who did not know the seriousness of the matter and almost ruined Master Luo's plan. From now on, if Master Luo gives any order, Luo Yi will do it even if he dies." Luo Yi regretted it so much. He worked so hard, but in the end he didn't earn a penny and almost got everyone involved. It was really embarrassing.
But this is also a good thing. Most gangsters have clear likes and dislikes. If they like someone, they would be willing to open their heart and soul to him/her, but if they hate someone, they would most likely never have anything to do with him/her again. Through this incident, Luo Yi and the others should have learned enough lessons. Not to mention how smart they will be in the future, but at least they should not disobey Rock's orders in secret.
After some gentle comfort, Rock went to Mill Street again before going to bed to check on the progress of the construction of the wing.
Rock had a good eye for people. Zack did not abscond with the five pounds, but stayed obediently in Rock's house, playing the roles of butler, gardener, servant, maintenance worker, and doorman. In just two days, Zack mowed all the lawns, repaired the fountain that had stopped working due to a malfunction, and was taking care of the small garden behind the house.
Of course, Zack did not relax his supervision of the workers. Although Zack could not speak, he was very good at using stern eyes to urge the workers who were building the ear room. The construction progress of the ear room has been significantly accelerated in the past two days. If nothing unexpected happens, the ear room can be completed within ten days.
When Rock returned home, Zack was eating in the temporary tent where the workers usually rested. The meal was not bought, but delivered by Zack's sister Bella. Bella was a girl who had just turned sixteen. Rock had met her once, but because it was late, Rock did not have a deep impression of her. Zack has now proved that he is trustworthy, and in a few days, Rock plans to hire Bella and Zack's mother together, to reduce Zack's workload and to keep him company.
When Rock saw Zach, there was a kitchen knife next to Zach. Seeing Rock's gaze, Zach was a little nervous: "Someone stayed outside the iron fence last night. I don't know if it was a thief or someone else, but they didn't break in. If possible, we should keep a few dogs at home."
Raise a dog!
This is a good suggestion. Rock can't hire too many people, so raising a dog is a good idea. At least the dog won't betray Rock.
"Go buy a few more tomorrow and buy a shotgun as well. Do you know how to use it?" Rock was generous. It didn't cost much to raise a few dogs, but the role they could play was significant. Rock also needed to prepare a shotgun for Zack. It was not troublesome, and he didn't even have to register it with the police station. There was a gun store on Maynard Street, not far from Mill Street.
Of course he could use it, Zack nodded repeatedly, obviously he was no stranger to weapons.
Before the British colonized the Cape, the Boers implemented a policy of universal conscription because their numbers were too small. Every Boer had to receive a certain degree of military training at a fixed time each year. In their spare time, the Boers might be farmers, merchants, or sailors. Once a war broke out, all Boers had to take up arms to fight against the enemy's invasion.
After the British colonized the Cape, they strengthened their management of the Boers, especially the Boers in Cape Town, who no longer had the opportunity to come into contact with weapons. Otherwise, when Rock was attacked, the other side might not have used sticks, but rifles.
Zach had obviously received military training, at least as a teenager, so he was no stranger to shotguns. Boers outside Cape Town could still legally own guns, and this would not change until the late stages of the Second Boer War.
After leaving home, Rock went to find the patrolman in charge of patrolling Mill Street and asked them to pay more attention to his home before returning to the dormitory.
The two patrolmen were both of Indian descent. Although they didn't like Rock, they did not reject Rock's request. Everyone saw what happened to Sharma after he offended Rock, and no one was willing to verify how good the relationship between Rock and the inspector was.
What's more, as the deputy captain of the commando team, Rock holds the rank of sheriff. Ordinary patrolmen have no ability to resist the sheriff. Even Sharma is not a match for Rock, so no one should cause trouble for him in the short term.
Nothing happened that night, and the next morning in the cafeteria, Rock heard a piece of news.
Just last night, a violent attack occurred at an office of Titus Mining Company. About four workers and six attackers were killed in the conflict. Rock doesn't know yet whether Sam Francis was involved , but he is sure that this incident is related to the information provided by Zack.
When he arrived at the police station, Rock finally knew what had happened from Henry.
"Sam Francis is the mastermind behind a series of attacks on police officers. However, Titus Mining Company rejected our action plan. They executed Sam Francis and several other insurgents in private. The two lost pistols were also found. Oh, by the way, the inspector asked you to find him. Don't worry, it should be a good thing." Henry was very relieved. Finding the lost pistol also meant the end of the case. Since the information was provided by Rock, Henry certainly also contributed to it.
What surprised Rock was that Titus Mining Company could actually bypass the police station and handle the matter directly, and Henry seemed to be used to it. This made Rock feel a sense of crisis. The commando team was established to deal with those rioters. Now that the rioters have been brought to justice, is there any need to keep the commando team?
