Chapter 27: Strategy Competition
Chen Xuan woke up suddenly, sat on the bed, his chest heaving, his eyes wide open, and took deep breaths.
It's still late at night.
He swallowed, took the water that had been left overnight from the bedside, took a sip, and his dry lips sucked the cold water hungrily, then he exhaled a breath of hot air.
Holding his forehead, Chen Xuan forced his eyelids open, lifted the quilt, washed his face with cold water, looked at the haggard and unfamiliar self in the mirror, and sighed.
He didn't know how long it had been since he last slept. Today, he finally fell asleep, but woke up again.
Instead of going to sleep, Chen Xuan sat at the desk, turned on the computer, and typed his thoughts and insights on the document.
This was the request of City Chief Kong. Chen Xuan had to summarize the concept of "ghost" he proposed as a reference and basis for the subsequent mission.
This was a very difficult task. Chen Xuan originally wanted to refuse. He felt that his ideas might not be correct. If they misled the subsequent tasks, he would be in big trouble.
But with the encouragement of Director Zheng, Chen Xuan finally took on the task.
That’s what I thought at the time, but when I actually started doing it, it wasn’t that difficult.
Chen Xuan wrote down his thoughts bit by bit. As the sun gradually rose, Chen Xuan finally completed the last bit of the manuscript.
I sent the manuscript to Director Zheng, who immediately gave me a thumbs-up.
After a while, he replied:
"It has been sent to Mayor Kong."
Chen Xuan raised his eyebrows. The efficiency was really high. The manuscripts released at the meeting naturally had to be reviewed by the top leaders, and no one could talk nonsense. Like the privilege of the task force last time, it was something that Mayor Kong did not care about the formalities and could only do because of the emergency situation.
Chen Xuan put on his police uniform, looked at his tall and straight self in the mirror, put on his hat, and walked towards the police station.
As soon as I arrived at the police station, I found that everyone was frantically setting up the meeting venue. Even Director Zheng rolled up his sleeves and put his nameplate on the table.
Chen Xuan saw the two words "Kong Zheng" on the main seat at a glance and was a little surprised.
"Chen Xuan!"
"Come and help! Put the mineral water on the table, and add teacups. Make sure there are both hot and cold water options."
"What's going on?"
Chen Xuan pretended to be working, picked up the cup in his hand and put it down again, and asked Director Zheng in a low voice.
"I don't know. After I sent your report to City Chief Kong, he immediately arranged a meeting at our police station. Not only us, but all the leaders who had previously participated in the Evil Ghost Task Force came to our place for the meeting."
"I'm afraid there's something important to announce."
Very important thing.
Chen Xuan didn't know why, and started to get busy with everyone else.
"Forget it , forget it. You should go prepare your speech. I think it has a lot to do with your report."
"Chen Xuan, you are famous now. You must remember your duty to serve the people..."
Chen Xuan automatically blocked the following speeches and did not prepare his own speech because Kong Zheng arrived soon, followed by a large group of people, including Liu Mei, whom Chen Xuan had met twice.
The two of them didn't talk much and sat down at their respective seats. The LED screen behind them changed to the theme of the meeting. The people around them immediately poured hot water, which started to boil, and everyone sat up straight.
"Everyone."
Kong Zheng said straight to the point:
"Everyone here is an old friend, so let me be frank. The recent Pen Fairy incident is extremely dangerous, and the transmission chain has increased from six to ten."
"That means ten families will be cursed every three days."
"Although we have found a way to temporarily control the number of transmission chains, it is not clear whether there will be any changes due to other reasons in the future."
"For example, if the Pen Fairy changes again, or if... other ghosts appear."
Kong Zheng spoke the last sentence very slowly, causing everyone's heart to pause for a moment.
"We need guidelines."
"It doesn't need to be perfect, but we can't be like headless chickens, running around everywhere and risking people's lives."
"Only by accepting good advice can we draw on the strengths of all schools of thought. Honest advice is unpleasant to the ear, and I hope everyone will not take others' harsh words to heart."
"There's no need to restrict the order of the meeting. Everyone should speak more and when one person finishes speaking, they can move on to another."
There was a brief silence in the meeting room. After a while, Lin Feng raised his hand to express his opinion.
"I believe that when dealing with ghost cases, we must maintain our humanity."
Lin Feng was the head of the second task force in the last operation. His original job was the captain of the customs and border control. In the last case, his task force effectively controlled the transmission chain, but his plan was not adopted in the end. He did not understand why.
Why did they finally choose an almost inhumane solution?
He subconsciously poked the table with his finger, frowned, and said in full force:
"First, to combat ghost-like incidents, we must handle them from a human perspective. As police officers, we must be brave enough to rush to the front lines and not be afraid of sacrifice."
"We should find a way to save the people. This is the meaning of our existence."
There was thunderous applause at the scene, and the following personnel were also inspired, standing up and speaking out generously.
When facing ghost-like incidents, we must fight against them with a fearless spirit, not be afraid of fighting ghosts, and give full play to human initiative to fight against aliens.
Chen Xuan sat in his seat with drooping eyelids, while Mayor Kong frowned, not knowing what he was thinking about.
"Second, we must abandon our fear of ghosts. From ancient times to the present, the greatest fear is often due to one's own imagination. This fear will magnify the other party's influence. Although the Pen Fairy is terrifying, do we have to fear any ghost in the future?"
"What if there are ghosts that humans can fight? We must keep that possibility open."
"Third, we must clearly realize... that the power of ghosts is advanced, unthreatening by firearms and undetectable by existing technology."
"We are powerless at this moment...but, I am human!"
"Using history as a mirror, we can understand the rise and fall of things. Are ghosts divided into good and evil? Do ghosts have hostile relationships? These are all things that can be studied. So, I have an idea..."
"We must learn from the foreigners to defeat them!"
Lin Feng concluded:
"Use the power of ghosts to fight ghosts."
At this point, Lin Feng straightened his back a little, and City Chief Kong Zheng sat up straighter. These words were very important and determined the content of his next announcement. He looked at Lin Feng, a hint of recognition in his eyes.
If the power of ghosts is greater than ours, we should really accept and learn from them, and not be closed off...
But the next moment, a sound of applause rang out, and then Chen Xuan's voice spread throughout the conference room.
Chen Xuan blushed and said sternly:
"No, I absolutely object!"
"I strongly objected to trying to embrace the power of ghosts."
