Chapter 24: A Pile of Bones
I can understand the coffin on the rooftop. The homeless man also said that he came into the old house to make a coffin for himself.
But what does this yellow and white paper mean?
My cousin is setting up the formation on the first floor.
We didn't have any yellow or white paper on us, and we had been on the third floor the whole time.
Thinking of this, my scalp goes numb.
Is there someone else here?
The view from the top floor was better, the air was better too, and the wind kept blowing, blowing up the yellow and white paper placed next to the coffin.
Only then did I realize that this was some money the homeless man had prepared for himself as a bribe.
He was thinking that if he died here accidentally while making the coffin, he would still be richer on the road.
"Maybe he's been poor all his life and is afraid of it."
Dong Jing sighed and continued moving forward.
The rooftop was a square open space with nothing on it except for a coffin placed in the middle.
Dong Jing walked to the side of the coffin, but before she could squat down, she screamed and backed away.
Seeing this, I hurried forward.
Who knew that the place was so big and she happened to bump into my arms.
I instinctively hugged her tightly while steadying my steps, for I was afraid that we would both fall.
But she didn't mean to push me away. Instead, she grabbed the corner of my clothes.
"Over there, there's a pile of bones!"
What?!
When I heard Dong Jing's words, my mind exploded instantly!
She turned around and buried her head in my arms.
My mind was in a mess. I reached out and patted her on the back, saying softly, "It's okay. Don't be nervous. I'll go take a look."
Although Dong Jing is usually fierce, he still feels scared when something happens.
I let her go and walked carefully to the coffin.
With Dong Jing's previous reminder, I was mentally prepared in advance, but when I saw the pile of bones, my heart still beat wildly.
The bones probably belonged to more than one person, and it was hard to tell whether they were a complete person or not.
"This is a sacrifice. There is a coffin next to the bones, and yellow and white paper as money for the passage." I frowned, feeling that this matter must be unusual.
The homeless man's previous confession was overturned in my mind.
Maybe these things are all related to homeless people.
I walked around the pile of bones and began to observe the coffin.
This coffin is very well made and looks very professional. If you haven't learned how to make it, you probably won't be able to make it like this.
The tramp had been wandering in these villages, and Sun Ming had never said who he had learned coffin making from.
This makes me even more confused.
Just then, the smell of spices began to enter my nostrils again.
But the smell of spices is always lingering. In this house, I have gradually become accustomed to this fragrance and don't pay much attention to it.
I stood in front of the coffin and looked at its front. This coffin also had that strange-looking totem.
What on earth is this?
Could it be a mysterious organization?
Or is someone deliberately trying to harm Uncle Wu by setting up these things in his old house so that he cannot have peace even if he doesn't live in the old house?
Thinking about it this way, I remembered.
Every time I see Uncle Wu, he always has a smile on his face.
I am always attracted to him because of his smile.
That kind of intimate feeling is just like my grandfather.
But I also remembered that his complexion was not good-looking. It was always dark blue, and sometimes the area around his eyes was black.
Most people might think that it is dark circles under the eyes, but I know that it is clearly the evil energy in the body.
"Wen Jie! Be careful!"
Dong Jing suddenly shouted behind me. Before I could react, I felt my neck tighten and I couldn't breathe.
I quickly reached out and found a bundle of black silk-like things wrapped around my neck.
When I touched it, I found it looked more like hair.
The hair was entangled around me from behind, so I turned around to see who it was.
But when I turned around, I found that everything in front of me was blurry and I couldn't see anything.
I don’t know why, even though I couldn’t see anything clearly, I could see Dong Jing’s figure clearly.
She was taking out a Taoist talisman from her cross-body bag and walking towards me.
The Taoist talisman exploded in front of me , and flames burst out in an instant.
Just then, the tension loosened slightly.
I tried so hard to breathe deeply that I almost died of suffocation.
But the relaxation did not last for a few seconds, and then it became even tighter.
I couldn't see who was controlling all this, I just felt a force that went around behind me and pulled me back violently.
My eyeballs rolled up to the sky, and I felt like I would lose my breath and faint to the ground in the next second.
My mind kept thinking about the past, but now I had no idea what to do.
"Wen Jie!"
Dong Jing was very nervous. She was casting a spell while calling me anxiously.
Her voice was so loud that it sobered me up a little.
I can't die, I must live!
My hands kept reaching to the side, trying to grab whatever I could get, as long as I could throw it back, maybe I could throw it to the person who caught me.
But the furnishings here are very simple, there is nothing except the coffin.
Just as I was being pulled backwards rapidly, I saw a nail on the coffin lid.
That nail is commonly known as the coffin nail. Usually, after the person lies down in the coffin, the fortune teller or the coffin bearer will help nail the nail on.
A bold idea came into my mind, and I reached out and hit the coffin nail hard.
The coffin nail went right into my hand, and the pain woke me up instantly.
At the same time, all the hair on my neck fell away, and I fell to my knees on the ground exhausted, with blood oozing from my hands.
I breathed heavily, not caring about the pain in my hands. I only felt the beauty of the world and the pleasure of being able to breathe.
Maybe it's because I inhaled too quickly and my lungs hurt so much.
Dong Jing looked at me with wide eyes: "Are you okay?"
I shook my head, and then my vision went dark and I passed out.
I don't know how long I was unconscious. When I woke up, it was already daybreak.
At this time, we had already returned to Sun Ming's home.
When I opened my eyes, I saw Dong Jing's face.
She was tired, her eyes were bloodshot and swollen, and it looked like she had been crying.
"Wen Jie, are you awake?" She saw the movement and then realized that I was awake.
I nodded, my throat was so dry and painful that I couldn't utter a word.
"Are you hungry? I made some porridge for you." She said and stood up.
I reached out to pull her back, but couldn't because she had already walked out of the room.
I heard some noise in the room and my cousin came in. His face was covered with wounds and he didn't look well.
Seeing that I woke up, he spat: "I'm glad he's okay, otherwise I would definitely not let him go!"
