Chapter 22 Engraved Wooden Box
My nasal cavity was instantly filled with the fragrance and the musty smell in the room. This smell made my stomach churn and I felt very uncomfortable.
But it's strange.
There was no one else in the old house, and the only woman was Dong Jing.
I admit that when I was in close contact with her, she did have a faint fragrance on her body.
But it's definitely not this kind of pungent fragrance.
I suppressed the churning in my stomach and began to look around for the source of the smell.
But we had walked through the entire second floor and didn't see the woman at all.
"How about we go up one floor and have a look?" I suggested.
Dong Jing was about to agree, but just as we were about to go upstairs, she discovered a secret room under the stairs.
"Wen Jie, come here and take a look first. "
She reached out and grabbed me, and I couldn't adapt to the force and bumped into her.
The softness of her body made my brain stop thinking and everything was blank.
But soon, I came to my senses.
Of course she noticed it, but instead of cursing like before, she blushed and pretended nothing had happened.
We worked together to open the secret room, and there was nothing inside, only a thick layer of dust.
Dong Jing had a high-powered flashlight in his hand. With the help of the light, I found a small secret compartment at the top of the secret room.
"Look." I pointed to the location of the secret compartment. There was a small box stuck right between the stairs and the roof of the secret room.
The roof of this place is high, and even though I am 1.80 meters tall, I can't reach the small wooden box with my hand.
"I'll hold you, and you reach out for it."
I didn't discuss it with her, but just picked her up.
"ah!"
She was obviously not prepared, so she suddenly screamed, but soon she calmed down.
There is an old saying that working together as a man and a woman is not tiring.
She reached out and hooked the wooden box down.
The wooden box broke when it fell to the ground. There was a gold coin inside. It looked to be pure gold and had some words engraved on it.
"It's written like a bug. I can't understand it."
Dong Jing handed me the gold coins in his hand. I looked at them but didn’t understand anything, so I just put them in my pocket.
I squatted down and looked at the broken wooden box on the ground. It had become moldy due to the moisture.
It's strange, in the north, this kind of dry weather shouldn't be humid.
Dong Jing's light source shone on me, and then I discovered that there were words on the wooden board.
After piecing them together, the line of words above suddenly comes into our sight.
"Whoever opens the box must die."
"What's this?!"
I looked back at Dong Jing who was standing behind me, and her eyes were also full of fear.
Dong Jing's voice trembled a little: "Could the words on the gold coin just now be a trick from Southeast Asia?"
Her words reminded me that I did some research on similar tricks when I was in school.
This is an ancient curse, similar to black magic.
But if we only have this one gold coin and wooden box, it doesn't mean anything at all. We must find more evidence.
I have begun to wonder in my heart whether the people who once lived in this old house were skilled in witchcraft.
Fortunately, Dong Jing discovered this secret room and we got useful information.
So now I am not in a hurry to go upstairs, but instead I survey the place again.
In the last room on the second floor corridor, I found a letter in the dressing table.
The words in the letter were the same as those on the gold coins, all crooked and crisscrossed like little bugs.
This is totally incomprehensible to us.
I put the letter away and went up to the third floor.
The third floor of this house is not the top floor. There is a small balcony above the third floor.
The closer you get to the third floor, the stronger the smell of spices becomes.
I don’t know if it’s just my psychology, but after hearing the homeless man say that there was something like hair wrapped around him, I also felt like there was something on my neck.
I reached out and felt around a few times but found nothing, so I kept going.
Dong Jing followed behind me. I kept walking forward, holding the peach wood sword given to me by my cousin.
At this time, the wind blew open the windows on the corridor on the third floor. I don’t know if it was because the wind was strong or if there was really a sound, but when it reached my ears, it sounded like a woman crying.
"Did you hear that?" I didn't turn around, but there was only Dong Jing behind me. She must know that I was talking to him.
After waiting for a long time without hearing her answer, I turned around and saw that she was no longer behind me.
I was scared, and my entire back was instantly soaked with cold sweat. The wind blew, and a chill ran directly from my tailbone to my scalp, and I got goose bumps all over my body.
When I was sweeping the house, what I feared most was this kind of thing happening: while I was walking, suddenly one person was missing.
So we all have a tacit understanding that if we want to leave the team, we will tell us in advance.
Dong Jing isn’t the kind of person who doesn’t explain herself. I’ve already started to imagine whether she was abducted by something.
But there were no crazy monsters in the house, not even a weasel was seen, so this kind of thing would not happen under normal circumstances.
"Dong Jing?"
I called out softly, but got no response from her.
I was a little panicked and didn't know whether I should continue moving forward or go downstairs to find my cousin.
Before I could think clearly, I heard someone calling from the front.
Although the person calling me was also a woman's voice, it was obviously not her.
"Wen Jie, come here."
Seeing that I didn't respond, the voice said again: "I'm here, Wen Jie?"
I frowned, my heart beating so fast that I could hear it on my eardrums.
After thinking it over again and again, I decided to go back. After I find my cousin on the first floor, I can go with him to find Dong Jing.
But after walking only two steps, I heard the sound of playing mahjong.
A light was turned on in a room in front of me, and there were the sounds of men and women playing happily inside.
My scalp suddenly went numb. I knew the condition of this old house well. Except for the homeless man who stayed here in the past week, no one had been here all year round.
So what is before our eyes must not be real , but an illusion!
I fell into a fantasy not long ago, and the current situation is very familiar to me, but I also understand that I have to get out of real life as soon as possible.
"Wen Jie?!"
I heard Dong Jing's voice, and this time I was sure it was her.
I have two ways to get out of here as quickly as possible.
Either use boy's urine or break the tip of the tongue.
Finally, I chose to break the tip of my tongue and spit it out along with my saliva.
This brought me back to reality.
My ears suddenly became quiet, leaving only Dong Jing in front of me.
