Chapter 21 Infiltration
Chapter 21: Infiltration
5:41
Batman was packing up a few lunatics and stuffing them into the Batmobile.
Alfred's voice came from the headset.
"I've synchronized Scarecrow's confession with the police, including the chemicals he mentioned and the location where the body was dumped."
He paused for a second and said,
"Commissioner Gordon is calling and requesting to speak with you."
"Connect."
The channel switched.
"Good morning, Batman," Barbara greeted him. Even through the equipment, the fatigue in her voice was still obvious. "You solved a lot of trouble for us last night. Thank you."
Bruce responded briefly: "State your purpose, Barbara."
"We found three bodies, they should be the people mentioned by Scarecrow. They should not be from Gotham. I compared their facial information with the city's population, and there was no match." Barbara briefly explained the current situation, and she spoke quickly, "So I used some other means to find the source of the equipment on them-it belongs to a small mercenary organization called 'Raqqa'. I found out that a pharmaceutical company has recently had financial dealings with this organization."
She paused, as if checking the information, and added after a moment:
"Kamala Pharmaceuticals. They had a large-scale financial transaction half a month ago, and the channel is very covert."
"What's the company's background like?"
"It looks legal and compliant, and the drug information disclosed to the public has also been approved. There is not enough evidence to apply for a search, unless the police department is merged with the IRS," she joked rarely, but immediately became serious again, "So, if you want to find out the inside story-I hope you can help to sneak in and search."
"I am responsible for this matter, and I need you to provide more information."
"It's ready. I'll transfer it to Penny." She sounded relieved. "Thank you for your cooperation, Batman."
Batman ended the call, put the Batmobile on autopilot, and let it take the men back to the police station.
A few seconds later, the portable terminal vibrated.
On it were the building plan and employee information for Kamala Pharmaceuticals.
7:30
Kamala Pharmaceuticals.
With a short electronic chime, Charlie Brown swiped his card and entered the main building.
He was dressed in a suit, carrying a briefcase in one hand and a folder in the other, and wearing shiny leather shoes. He walked around the fountain in the center of the lobby and into the hallway.
A middle-aged man approached him and greeted him with a smile.
"Charlie, what brings you here so early today?"
He waved the documents in his hand and explained, "Good morning, Mr. Johnson—I have a new project today."
"Good luck!" The man patted his shoulder encouragingly.
"Thank you,"
he smiled, watching the man walk away.
Then he went to the project registration desk and handed his ID card to the female clerk.
"Charlie Brown, experimenter, assigned to a new project today."
The female employee looked down at the personnel transfer list. After a few seconds, she frowned.
"You're not on today's personnel transfer list."
Charlie blinked in confusion, as if he hadn't expected such a surprise. He leaned in slightly, lowering his voice.
"Mr. Hank Darrell asked me to come. He gave me a last-minute notice yesterday afternoon and told me to report in today to join the team for the experiment."
He gestured to the file bag in his hand. "The results of last night's overtime work."
The female employee's expression softened slightly; she clearly recognized the name.
She looked down to confirm it again, then raised her eyes and shook her head.
"Perhaps there was a problem with the handover. I only see one new project, YT-4, and your name is definitely not in the system."
Charlie was silent for a few seconds. He looked a little annoyed, and his tone seemed to be trying to control his emotions.
"What a perfect communication chain. My boss can make me spin around with just one email..."
He put away his ID card and hung it back around his neck.
"I'll ask him about it later. Thank you."
