Chapter 2: When we met, the past was reset 04
After I finished taking the exams for all subjects, it started snowing heavily late at night the next day. In the morning, I was woken up by the crazy noise outside while I was still asleep. When I woke up, I found that everything outside the window was covered with snow.
I got up and washed up. Chen Yating was not in the dormitory as usual. Yang Liu's computer was on and she paused the Korean drama. She must have gone downstairs to watch the snow or go to the bathroom. Jiang Meng's bed was rarely moved. Today, the bed curtain was actually drawn. Did she come back last night?
I was standing in front of the mirror combing my hair, wondering what was going on with Jiang Meng when the door was pushed open.
"It's so cold, I'm going to freeze to death." Yang Liu rubbed her red hands and was startled when she saw me.
I brushed the snowflakes off her hair and smiled at her: "Morning."
"Be good, I brought you breakfast." Yang Liu smiled and handed me the fried dough sticks and soy milk. Seeing that I was still washing my face, I said "ah" and put them on my table, "Eat while it's hot."
"Thanks."
She saw my eyes on Jiang Meng's bed, came over, and whispered in my ear: "Don't ask anything, don't say anything, Jiang Meng is a time bomb now."
I was about to speak, but Yang Liu quickly stopped me with a gesture, pulled me into the bathroom, and closed the door.
"What happened to her?" I asked calmly.
"I guess she was dumped." Yang Liu still maintained her previous cautious expression and whispered, "She was making a phone call outside the door last night. I vaguely heard something like 'vixen' and 'scumbag'. Jiang Meng kept scolding that man. After she hung up the phone, she cried in her quilt. I heard it all."
Seeing that I was confused, Yang Liu knocked on my head and said, "Fang Xiaozhu, you were sleeping so soundly, of course you didn't know. I heard from others that Jiang Meng's rich boyfriend is actually a married man, and he has multiple girlfriends. His wife doesn't care. She usually spends lavishly, where does the money come from? She asks that man for it, what do you think?"
I really don't know about these things about Jiang Meng.
"I think she deserves it." Yang Liu said with disdain.
Just as he finished speaking, the door was opened with a bang. Jiang Meng appeared in front of us in pajamas, staring at Yang Liu with eyes swollen like walnuts.
Yang Liu swallowed her saliva, hid behind me, and said courageously: "Look, what are you looking at? You dare not say what you do."
"Believe it or not, I will tear your mouth apart!" Jiang Meng's face turned ashen and looked very scary.
I pulled Yang Liu, signaling her to stop talking.
"You damn bitch." Jiang Meng cursed.
The door slammed shut with greater force than before.
"Who are you calling a gossip? You shameless person, I will never let you go!" Yang Liu was so angry that she wanted to rush out and grab Jiang Meng's hair. I held her back, shook my head and said forget it.
After calming Yang Liu down with kind words, when she went out, Jiang Meng had already changed her clothes and was craning her neck to apply foundation in front of a small mirror.
Yang Liu bit the bun in her hand angrily and muttered to herself.
In less than ten minutes, Jiang Meng walked out of the door with her head held high in high heels, and the sound of "thump thump" was heard in the stairwell.
"Look who this enchantress is going to seduce next, bah." Yang Liu threw the soy milk in her hand into the trash can as a way of venting her anger, then crossed her legs and returned to the bed, continuing to watch her Korean drama with headphones in.
After a while, she took off her headphones and looked at me, which made me feel scared.
"Wei Yangyang, you must not learn from her." She said worriedly.
The fried dough stick I swallowed got stuck in my throat and I started coughing.
"After all, you are prettier than that goblin, remember that." Yang Liu muttered to herself as she put her headphones back on and tore open a bag of potato chips to eat.
I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
After the morning farce, the dormitory returned to peace.
I didn't spend Lin Jiaxuan's birthday with him. I stood in the snow under the dormitory building and called him to invite him to dinner. Lin Jiaxuan said perfunctorily that he was waiting for someone outside and didn't have time. His evasive tone made me feel desolate. I thought of July.
Maybe I was deceiving myself too much. I knew that the boy I liked liked my friend, but I still had to compromise and hope that his eyes would stay on me.
I have always disdained humble feelings, so why do I make an exception every time when it comes to Lin Jiaxuan?
Is it easier ? If I give up, will I regret never fighting?
I am caught in such a contradiction and am extremely tormented.
I had planned to stay in school until Lin Jiaxuan finished his exams, and then ask him whether he wanted to return to Huacheng. However, since Shen Huai and his mother came over before the New Year, I changed my mind and simply decided not to go back.
Something fell on my eyelashes, it was cold, I looked up and found it was snowing again. It was a beautiful snowy day, but I felt a little sad for some reason.
A few days ago in the library, people kept saying that the plum blossoms in the riverside plum garden were in full bloom and that they must go and see them after the exams. Since I had nothing to do, I decided to go to the plum garden alone.
There is a bus that goes directly to Meiyuan Station, but it takes more than ten minutes to walk to Meiyuan after getting off the bus. On the way to Meiyuan, you have to pass a police station.
Due to the cold weather and snow, there were few people on the road to Meiguan, with only a few cars passing by occasionally. When we were almost at the police station, we saw a few hooligans squatting on the ground by the lake, smoking.
They looked like they were not easy to mess with, and when the three young men saw that I was alone, they whistled at me. There was also a boy in a grey hoodie squatting on a stone bench with his back to us, staring at the lake in a daze.
I had been walking on the right side of the road, and suddenly crossing to the left seemed too timid. Anyway, the police station was not far away, and I didn't think they would dare to cause trouble in broad daylight.
But I was wrong.
Seeing their faces getting closer and closer, I held the straps of my backpack tightly, pretending not to see them, and tried to quicken my pace to pass by. In the middle, there was a young man in an orange jacket, who put out his cigarette, stood up and walked towards me.
I stopped, wondering whether to go back.
"Beauty, where are you going?" He smiled nonchalantly and approached.
I noticed that the other two had come around behind me and were blocking the way.
"What do you want to do? The police station is just ahead." I looked calm on the outside, but a little panicked inside. If I had known, I would not have come here alone.
"Hey, don't be nervous. What can we do in broad daylight? It's not night, right?" He chuckled, and the people behind him laughed when they heard his words.
I didn't want to bother with them and just wanted to get away quickly.
"We brothers won't make things difficult for you. You are penniless, so lend me some money." His eyes fell on my bag, and the meaning was self-evident.
"Be careful or I'll call the police," I warned him.
"Oh, you're trying to scare us." He laughed even more heartily, with a threatening tone in his voice, "Let's see who's faster, us or the police. Anyway, we were just released, and our butts are still warm. We don't mind staying there for a few more days."
"Brothers, right?" He waved to the two people behind him with an unbridled tone, and the people behind him responded with another burst of laughter.
I looked at the empty road and the police station in the distance and knew he hadn't lied to me. They were fully capable of taking the money and running away, and if I was unlucky, I would get hurt.
Now is not the time to be a hero. I must be smart and not put myself in danger. It's just a wallet, I console myself.
But I'm not willing to let them get it so easily.
"Okay." I took out my wallet, held it up and looked at them. They had very proud faces.
"Beauty, that's right." The young man in the orange jacket squinted his eyes and took his wallet with satisfaction.
I don't know where I got the courage from, I threw the wallet into the lake beside me and looked at him coldly: "You go and fish it out."
I guess I was really crazy and didn't think about the consequences of angering them.
Although the behavior was crazy, I felt relieved.
"You little bitch, if you don't accept my toast, you'll be punished. Believe it or not, I'll kill you." The man in the jacket rushed over and wanted to slap me, but I covered my face with my arms.
As we were arguing, a voice interrupted.
"Gangzi, that's enough." Hearing this, the man in the jacket raised his hand and stopped it above my head. Through the gaps between his fingers, I saw that the man with his back to us turned his head.
