Chapter 2: A blockbuster
"There are more than a thousand questions in the oral test outline. How can you be sure that it is not included?" Wang Qiang said with a smile.
Xu Cang shook his head firmly: "There are a total of 1,324 questions in the oral exam outline. I looked through them all last night. There is definitely no such question. I can be sure of that."
Wang Qiang's mouth twitched a few times: "You mean you finished reading the entire oral exam outline in one night?"
"No!" Xu Cang said calmly, "It's not the oral test outline, it's the standard operating manual, crew manual, crew training manual, operation manual, quick checklist and... the oral test outline... I've read them all."
Xu Cang's memory was extremely amazing. Combined with the memory of his previous studies, he was able to go through a pile of flight manuals at a terrifying speed in just one night.
He couldn't afford to make any mistakes in this assessment.
Xu Cang's extremely arrogant words shocked Wang Qiang and the first co-pilot next to him into silence. Wang Qiang, in particular, was so angry that he laughed: "Do you know how many manuals there are? You finished reading them in one night. Don't you think it's ridiculous to say such a thing?"
Facing the somewhat angry teacher Wang Qiang, Xu Cang remained calm and said a number: "789."
Wang Qiang was stunned: "What did you say?"
"I mean, of course I know how many manuals there are." Xu Cang was as calm as a still pond: "The crew manual has the most content, a total of 789 pages. Next is the crew training manual, 622 pages, and then the quick checklist, 372 pages..."
Xu Cang read out the page numbers of each flight manual like a precise machine. Wang Qiang and the first co-pilot looked at each other in bewilderment. It was the first time they had heard someone mention the page numbers of a manual.
Immediately, the first co-pilot went to the flight box and took out a white-covered manual, which was the crew manual. He turned directly to the last page, and when he saw the page number of the last page, he looked at Xu Cang in surprise.
It really is 789 pages!
He only brought one manual for the unit with him, and did not bring the rest of the manuals, so he could not verify whether what Xu Cang said was correct. But seeing Xu Cang's confident look, he was probably not talking nonsense.
Wang Qiang glanced at the first co-pilot's expression and knew that what Xu Cang said was true, but he was only a little surprised. This little trick was nothing.
"It's quite rare to find someone who can remember page numbers by looking in a manual." When Wang Qiang smiled, he looked as if his skin and flesh were torn apart, and there was stiffness everywhere.
It's not uncommon to see people remembering page numbers while reading a manual, but Wang Qiang has never seen one before.
"Does the instructor think I just read it hastily?" Xu Cang looked slightly unhappy. "The high-frequency question just now is not in the oral test outline, so it is naturally not within the scope of this route inspection. However, if the instructor is simply asking me as a private person and not as an inspector, I can probably answer it."
Wang Qiang's eyelids jumped: "Do you really know?"
Xu Cang was right about some things. For example, this question was indeed not in the oral interview outline, because Wang Qiang asked it purely on a whim.
"The relevant description is on page 231 of the crew manual, in the communication system content in the restricted chapter. It is 29.489 and 29.490 MHZ." Xu Cang seemed quite helpless: "But teacher, what is the difference between this kind of question and the different ways to write the word fennel? Is it really okay to ask this question?"
The reason why high frequencies 29.489 and 29.490 MHZ cannot be used is the same as the reason why very high frequencies 120.00 MHZ cannot be used, because these frequencies will have certain adverse effects on the aircraft's equipment, such as the oil pressure gauge and the flight management computer.
However, some pilots may know that VHF 120.00MHZ cannot be used. High frequency communication has long ceased to be the main communication method of the 737. Many pilots may not use high frequency communication for a year or two. How can they know the prohibited frequency of high frequency?
Wang Qiang was stunned for a moment, then smiled bitterly and said, "It's indeed a boring question. Forget it, you passed the oral test, go call a taxi, we're going in."
When Xu Cang went to ask the vehicle dispatcher about the incoming vehicles, the first co-pilot secretly approached Wang Qiang and said, "Instructor, is what he said right? How come I didn't know?"
Wang Qiang sighed, "Of course you don't know. Not only you, but probably some pilots don't know either. Did he really fail the three proficiency checks, or is there some hidden secret?"
Wang Qiang is an inspector, and he knows some insider information about inspections. During a skilled inspection, if the inspector is determined not to let the inspected person pass, there are still many ways to deal with it.
Could it be that this guy offended a skilled company inspector or some leader disliked him and instructed the inspector to do something dirty?
The first officer scratched his head: "Instructor, I don't know about this."
"Let's see how he flies later. If there is no problem with his flying, there might be something fishy." Just from the content of the oral interview, Wang Qiang had a very good impression of Xu Cang and wanted to stand up for Xu Cang.
There was no conversation along the way, and the entire entry process was eerily silent.
Xu Cang was imagining a better life in the future, while Wang Qiang was thinking about how to seek justice for Xu Cang if he was really targeted for non-technical issues, and the first co-pilot was simply slacking off with his mind empty.
The flight crew was silent, which resulted in the cabin crew following behind not being able to relax too much. The eight people in the group basically didn't talk, and the atmosphere was very stiff.
When they got under the plane, Xu Cang, who was in charge of this flight, went up to prepare the cockpit, while Wang Qiang did a walk-around inspection and the first co-pilot was responsible for refueling.
When Wang Qiang finished his inspection around the plane and went up to the cockpit , he found Xu Cang lying leisurely in the seat in a daze.
After putting away the flight case and pulling out the seat to sit down, Wang Qiang glanced at the panel: "Are you ready?"
Xu Cang pointed upwards at the rear top panel: "Well, once the inertial navigation calibration is completed, I will test the TCAS again."
"So fast?" Wang Qiang was a little surprised at Xu Cang's preparation for the cockpit.
Cockpit preparation is a must-have skill for every pilot. Experienced co-pilots can basically complete it smoothly because they have formed their own preparation process and will not make mistakes or forget anything. However, new co-pilots have not yet found their own rhythm. Faced with the large number of switches, buttons, and keys in the cockpit, it is easy to confuse yourself. Don't even think about speeding up, just be thankful that you can complete it.
Wang Qiang took off his reflective vest and quickly scanned the panel. There seemed to be no obvious errors. He checked the CDU again and found that all kinds of data had been entered, including the approach and departure procedures of the take-off and landing airports. There were no errors.
When facing an airport with two or even three runways, novice pilots are often confused about which runway to use for takeoff and landing. Even if they know the runway for takeoff and landing, there are often multiple approaches and departures for one runway, so choosing which procedure to use is also a hurdle.
However, Xu Cang's choice of runway and approach and departure was very accurate. Not only that, the weight data, cost index and speed limit he pre-entered showed Xu Cang's experience.
