Chapter 17 Murder 3. Ghost Marriage Murder
It was completely dark. Wu Yu turned on the light. The orange light illuminated the whole room, and a chilly atmosphere was faintly permeated. Wu Yu remembered the wooden cabinet where the red cheongsam was placed. He walked over to open it and saw that the folded clothes in the cabinet were all ancient costumes from the Republic of China. Suddenly, he remembered that these ancient costumes might be left by the ghost bride. With a little surprise, he curiously picked up one and walked to the screen mirror to take a closer look under the light. This dress was obviously worn by young ladies in the Republic of China. The fine yarn embroidered with white peonies was soft and delicate. Wu Yu looked at it for a while and was surprised that there were such beautiful clothes in the Republic of China. No wonder Yunyun liked to wear them. He seemed to be confused by the clothes and couldn't put them down. At this moment, suddenly, he saw a woman's figure behind him, and her long hair was messy. He couldn't help but jump with fear. He slowly turned his head, but saw nothing. Wu Yu thought it was because of his temporary dazzle, and his hanging heart returned to its original place.
Wu Yu hadn't recovered from his shock yet, when he suddenly saw a woman hanging high behind the screen. He rubbed his eyes in fear, and when he looked again, it was really a woman. At this moment, he felt scared, and his heart almost jumped out of his chest. Wu Yu suddenly remembered the legend of the ghost bride, and turned back with his eyes wide open and trembling in horror.
He turned around and was so frightened that he almost fainted. He saw the woman in the red cheongsam hanging above slowly lift up her long hair that covered her small face, revealing a pale face. When Wu Yu saw it, he was so frightened that he almost screamed: "Xinluo——"
Wu Yu suddenly heard a loud noise and was startled, almost jumping up. He opened his eyes and found that he was leaning against the bed. There was no light in the dark room. He realized that it was just a dream, but how could the dream be so real? He touched his forehead involuntarily and broke out in a cold sweat. At this time, the phone suddenly rang. Wu Yu was already in a bad mood and got angry for no reason. He held the phone without even looking at it and shouted, "Who—"
The other party was stunned for a moment before slowly saying, "Is that Wu Yu?" The voice on the other end was hoarse, like the voice of an old man.
Wu Yu was startled and said, "You are——"
"I'm from the post office, remember?"
Wu Yu was delighted when he heard this and asked, "I know. Any news?"
"You should still be in the ancient town now. Come over here right now. There is another letter for you."
Wu Yu was stunned for a moment, and hurriedly said, "I'll be right there." He hung up, got up, opened the door, and was about to go out, but saw a light drizzle falling in the gloomy courtyard. Wu Yu cursed in disgust, "Damn it," and turned around, picked up an umbrella from the corner of the door, and went out.
Wu Yu hurried to the post office and found that it was the man who called him last time. When he saw Wu Yu coming in, he waved to him mysteriously. Wu Yu walked up breathlessly and asked, "What letter?" Then he handed him a five-leaf god.
The old man slowly took out a letter from behind his back, handed it to Wu Yu, and then lit a cigarette.
Wu Yu saw the handwriting on the envelope and almost dropped it in shock. He recognized the handwriting on the envelope, "No. 109, Minxin Road, Wu Yu" was written by Su Wei. He opened the letter tremblingly and saw a yellowed piece of paper with the words: Ghost Marriage Murder, Officer Zhong.
Wu Yu was even more shocked after reading it, but this was indeed Su Wei's handwriting. Could it be Su Wei? He was confused for a moment. If Su Wei was not dead, why did the letter say that he was murdered by a ghost? What did all this have to do with Officer Zhong? Could it be that Officer Zhong knew about the ghost marriage and murder two years ago? If Su Wei was still alive, why didn't he show up? The more he thought about it, the more confused he became.
"What's wrong? Your face looks changed." The man said slowly while exhaling smoke.
"Nothing...nothing..." Wu Yu stammered. After he finished speaking, he suddenly smiled at the old man and said, "Did you see who sent the letter?"
"It seemed like a woman in ancient costume, but she hurriedly put down the envelope and went out. I didn't even see her shadow clearly." The old man seemed confused.
Wu Yu was startled, wondering who that woman was. If it was a woman who sent the letter, what was her relationship with Su Wei? He smiled, waved goodbye to the person, and then went out.
As soon as he got out of the door, he hurried to the station in the ancient town. He felt that he had to go to Zhejiang. While walking, he called Officer Zhong, but his phone was turned off. He was very confused, because the police officer must keep his phone on 24 hours a day.
The bus Wu Yu took happened to be Xiaoxue's, and the two of them were able to chat and relieve their boredom on the way. Xiaoxue asked him what he was doing in Zhejiang, but Wu Yu was not comfortable telling her, so he just made up an excuse to get by. After getting off the bus in Zhejiang, he went to the Public Security Bureau in a panic and asked about Officer Zhong. The receptionist was a young girl, who said Officer Zhong was out on a case. She was not comfortable telling him what the case was. He suddenly recalled the previous meeting with Officer Zhong, and thought that maybe that difficult case had not been solved yet.
Suddenly, there was a vibration. It was Xinluo calling . He picked up the phone, but couldn't hear anyone on the other end. Wu Yu thought it was a signal problem, so he called a few times into the receiver, but there was no response. His intuition told him that something might have happened to Xinluo. After the call was disconnected, Wu Yu hurried out of the bureau and called Xinluo. The call was connected, but it rang for a long time but no one answered. Suddenly, there was a rustling sound, and then Xinluo screamed: "There's a ghost in the deserted house--" As soon as the voice fell, the line was disconnected again. Wu Yu was worried and scared. He called again, but the other party had already indicated that the phone was turned off.
Wu Yu hurried to the station.
Halfway back home, his cell phone vibrated. He was stunned for a moment, thinking it was Xinluo calling, so he quickly got out. It turned out to be Officer Zhong.
"Wu Yu, right?" the other party asked directly.
"Yes."
"I heard you came to see me. I was out on a case and couldn't turn on my phone. I'm so sorry that you made a wasted trip. Is it about what happened last time?"
"Yes, but you are so busy, and there are many questions that cannot be answered clearly at once."
"I will go over to talk to you about Su Wei's death in detail. You should still be in Wuzhen."
"Um."
"That's it, then."
"Okay, thank you very much."
After getting off the car, Wu Yu hurried back to the old house and went straight to Xinluo's room. As soon as he entered the room and saw the scene in front of him, his face turned pale. Xinluo collapsed on the ground with her eyes wide open in fear, her teeth chattering, and her whole body trembling. Her fair face turned ashen because of excessive fear. In front of lay a dead body, with eyes wide open and white turned up. The face of the dead body was covered with mottled bloodstains by some weapon, so that the face was completely disfigured, but Wu Yu still recognized that this was Su Wei. Wu Yu was stunned by the sudden scene in front of him. It took him a long time to come to his senses, and he hurried forward to hug Xinluo tightly. Xinluo was still trembling and couldn't say a word. Wu Yu thought that she might be too frightened.
