Chapter 15: The Spire
Only then did I see clearly the appearance of the zombie that had been following me closely. It was wearing a purple satin robe and a pair of straw sandals. Its face was dry and dark, with wrinkles all over it. Its eyes were blood red in its deep eye sockets. Its mouth was open, revealing a row of white teeth and two long, sharp zombie teeth.
Although we didn't have a TV at home, we often played movies in the village, and I watched quite a few zombie movies. All the zombies here are not quite the same as those in the movies, wearing Qing Dynasty official uniforms, but they are roughly the same. It seems that China's thousands of years of zombie culture has a long history and follows a fixed pattern. Unlike foreign vampires and zombies, there are all kinds of things, which are quite messy.
Seeing this thing with disheveled hair and a pair of bloodshot eyes staring at me, my fragile little heart immediately jumped into my throat, and my legs felt sore. But seeing the black-browed viper rushing behind it like a tide, Lin Yuxi was almost suffocated by its throat, and she didn't care about being afraid anymore, and turned around to find something to fight with. But there was nothing except the red tassel spear in the zombie's hand, so she snatched a spear from a zombie next to her, and filled her chest and abdomen with "no talisman energy", and rushed forward with the spear.
In fact, I know the current situation very well. Saving Lin Yuxi or not will have the same result. Not to mention that I can't kill this old zombie in red robes, even if I kill it, there are still a large number of black-browed vipers behind it, as well as endless groups of zombies around it. Where can I escape? Fighting with the old zombie is nothing more than a trapped beast fighting.
The spear went straight to the old zombie's eyeball, which was the only soft part of its body. The old zombie seemed a little too arrogant, thinking that my strength would not be enough, and waved a claw to hit the spear head. But it didn't expect that I put all my strength into this stab, especially the potential of the Wu Fu Qi that even I didn't know. Its slap only slightly deflected the spear tip, but the remaining force still pierced its left cheek.
Its face was quite thick. It only made a "pop" sound, but it didn't penetrate its face. It was in pain and cried out. I waved my hand and threw Lin Yuxi towards me. I was holding a spear in my hand, and I couldn't catch it in time. If I didn't catch it, I would be knocked to the ground. After weighing the pros and cons, I dodged it and let her fall into the zombie column beside me. It was fine if I could save her life, she wouldn't die anyway.
However, this time, a group of zombie "guards" were knocked down, and Lin Yuxi was not seriously injured. The old zombie rushed over, and I took a big step back in fear. I stabbed its chest with my spear, and it felt like I had stabbed a copper wall. My palm was numb, and it couldn't penetrate the flesh. Instead, I was knocked back by its attack, and fell right on Lin Yuxi, who hadn't gotten up yet.
"Ouch...you don't have eyes..." The girl cried out loudly because of the headache under her body.
I thought to myself that even if my body was covered with eyeballs, I couldn't control myself, so I just accepted my bad luck. Just as I climbed up from her, I suddenly discovered a horrifying situation. The yellow talisman on the forehead of the guard who was knocked down broke into pieces and fell down. I couldn't help but open my mouth wide, as if a super-sized eggplant was stuffed in it. I understood what was going on. They had been dead for hundreds of years, or even longer. The paper talismans had long been corroded and vulnerable, and they immediately broke into pieces when they encountered strong winds.
They are all suppressed by the Corpse Suppression Talisman. Without the Yellow Talisman, they will all be like old zombies . Just as I thought of this, the guards who fell to the ground and lost the Yellow Talisman's restraint twisted their necks one by one, making a "crackling" sound of muscles and bones rubbing against each other, which gave us both goose bumps!
Just at this time, the red-robed old zombie pounced again, and a guard in front of us suddenly jumped up from the ground and immediately collided with it. One of the two guys flew out horizontally, and the other fell backwards, helping us resolve a dangerous situation. I hurriedly grabbed Lin Yuxi's little hand and pulled it up, but the guard who was pressed under her suddenly stretched out his arms and hugged her.
"Ah... let go..." Lin Yuxi was so frightened that she forgot to use her hands to pry the zombie's arms apart and just screamed loudly.
I saw the fallen guards around me stand up one after another, my scalp almost fell off, I gritted my teeth and raised the spear in my hand, stabbing it hard into the left eye of the guard under her, and piercing it straight into the brain. This guy screamed in pain twice, and his arms involuntarily let go. I took this opportunity to pull Lin Yuxi up and ran forward in a panic.
Fortunately, I was not panicking at this moment, and pulled Lin Yuxi through the gap between the guards without knocking anyone down. The red-robed old zombie screamed and chased after me again, but the guard who had just knocked over was irritated, and after getting up, he grabbed the red robe on its back and pulled it back hard, so the two dead dumplings rolled on the ground and fought, you pulled me, I pulled you, but in a few moments, they both peeled off a layer of skin.
After the guards who lost the yellow talisman to suppress them stood up, they had absolutely no friendship with their comrades, and didn't care about the quarrel between the two dead dumplings. They only recognized human anger, and jumped after us. They didn't care about the other guards blocking them, and rushed over, knocking down a large number of people. One of them was lying on its side, like a domino, and the whole column fell down in an instant.
The chaos in the guard team helped us a lot. The black-browed vipers that were crawling forward happily were pressed under this column and could not get out for a while, which gave us a chance to catch our breath.
Lin Yuxi stopped crying out in pain. Although she was being dragged along by me, she was not slower than me at all. She followed closely behind me and ran out of the guard formation in one breath. But after coming out, I was dumbfounded again. There was a pyramid-like building in front of me. The base of the pyramid covered an area of about 50 to 60 square meters. It sloped upwards, and the top was almost connected to the top of the cave. Fortunately, the steps were big enough for us to walk. We both took a breath and climbed up immediately.
Looking down from a high place, it was really lively. Two zombies were still happily fighting in the group of guards. Those who fell to the ground stood up one by one, and when they chased us, they knocked down other guards, causing a domino effect. Like a tide sweeping across the pyramid, all the guards around it came alive!
Some of the black-browed vipers were crushed to death, and some waited for the guards to stand up and then chased after the pyramid, but were blocked by the densely packed legs and feet. They then climbed up along the guards' backs, trying to climb over them, but this aroused the disgust of the zombies, who grabbed the venomous snakes on their bodies and stuffed them into their mouths, chewing them with a crunching sound, and blood splattered and the stench filled the air, which made the two of us shudder.
Suddenly I thought these Zongzi guards were cute, because they not only helped to kill the poisonous snakes, but also jumped around the pyramids in circles, but could not climb up. They could not bend their knees when walking, so they could only jump, and the pyramids were so steep that they could easily trip, and many of them jumped up a few steps and then rolled down again, so they just gave up the trouble and jumped around the pyramids like turning around a grave.
Lin Yuxi and I almost reached the top of the tower, and when we saw they couldn't get up, we stopped to catch our breath. I smiled and said, "Look how anxious they are, like desperate dogs trying to jump over a wall, but they just can't get up."
Lin Yuxi lay down on the slope, sweating all over, and panted, "You can still laugh. Even if they can't jump up, can we get down? Hey, what's on the top of the cave?"
I quickly raised my flashlight and shone it upwards, and immediately my whole body froze. Damn it, I got too excited too early and forgot there was a black-browed viper on the cave ceiling!
