Chapter 14: Night Knocks on the Door
"We should let more people hear it," this is what Julia said. Yuri did not hear the hidden meaning in this sentence. Of course, he did not consider what other hidden meanings were contained in this sentence.
Anyway, they were all having a great time, and everyone around them was asking for more, so Yuri didn't refuse. He played the accordion again and sang the widely circulated "The Hawthorn Tree" again. No one noticed. Unlike the first time when she was just appreciating it, Julia had been memorizing it carefully since Yuri played the prelude.
A large bonfire gradually burned out amid the noise of the crowd. The vodka and food that several people had bought with their entire month's allowance were also consumed as the bonfire went out. When the surroundings gradually became colder, the group had to leave with reluctance.
After returning to the workers' new village from the collective farm, Yuri and August said goodbye to Olga and others in front of Building 11. There was not only the two of them, but also a drunk Nasha. The girl decided to live with August. From today on, the two of them would live together.
From meeting in the morning to living together in the evening, the relationship between a man and a woman progressed so fast that Yuri couldn't help but be amazed. But after thinking about it carefully, it didn't seem to matter. The atmosphere in this country was open. The most important thing was that compared with August, who had a relatively good political background, girls like Nasha, who were rejected by almost the entire society because of their background, were obviously more lonely. Yuri even felt that if he could invite Olga openly, she would probably go with him.
Alas, men with thin skin can only eat grass. If they want to be a heroic man, they can only go back to the cold room and play "League of Legends".
"Hey, Paulenka, good night," Nasha said to August as they parted ways at the stairs, winking at him, "If you can't sleep well, you can go to Olga. The room in the middle belongs to her. Don't go to the wrong one."
This made August laugh again, and Yuri felt that his laughter was full of complacency.
Shaking his head helplessly, Yuri watched the couple walk into the house, then he sighed and walked towards his residence.
When you suddenly become quiet from the hustle and bustle, you always feel something special in your heart. Well, the lonely will feel more lonely, and the confused will feel more confused. That's about it. Yuri didn't find it hard to live in this dormitory, but tonight, he felt lonely for the first time in his life. Yuri didn't know that this was a sign that he was gradually integrating into this era and this society.
The room was warm, and it was like being in a completely different world from the severe cold outside. Yuri took a hot bath and originally planned to read a book, but then he remembered the T-type wiring he had done in the morning, so he started to work on making the simplest T-type wire clamp.
The so-called T-shaped wire clamp is actually a very simple thing. A piece of inch-wide iron sheet is folded in half, and a wire groove is made at the bend. It is basically ready for use in the shape of a clamp. Of course, in order to clamp the wires firmly, screws must be screwed into the folded iron sheet. If it is an improved version, it may be made into a real frame and the screws are removed, which can greatly shorten the wiring time.
There was no hammer at home, so Yuri just found something handy and made it in no time. However, he couldn't find cables or anything like that, and he didn't know if it would be useful. In fact, Yuri also intended to make it too practical, after all, all he needed to come up with was a "concept", that is, an idea. If someone really liked this thing, they would naturally make more improvements in the craftsmanship.
After finishing his things and throwing them aside, Yuri poured himself a glass of water, sat down at the only table in the living room, opened the book he brought back, and was about to read for a while, but unexpectedly at this moment, there was a knock on the door.
Who else would knock on the door so late at night? Yuri was stunned for a moment, but then his heart started beating. It seemed like an intuition, or an expectation. Olga's delicate face flashed through his mind. He had been a bachelor for nearly thirty years in his previous life. To be honest, he had never had a serious girlfriend, let alone a romantic encounter. The current situation only made his heart beat faster and his face flushed. The feeling of anxiety and excitement was really indescribable.
Just as Yuri was daydreaming, someone outside knocked on the door again, but the knock seemed a little quieter than last time.
"Cough," Yuri coughed dryly, swallowed secretly, and then got up to open the door.
As the door opened, a woman who had been hiding in the shadows in the corridor outside appeared.
The woman had short blond hair, a slightly thin face, and obvious sunken eye sockets. Her skin color was not as white as most Russians, but a light wheat color. These features should have made her look ugly, but with her straight nose, two long and thin eyebrows, and a small mouth with thin lips, her face actually had a very sexy taste.
The person outside the door was obviously not Olga. Yuri looked at her in astonishment and asked in surprise: "Julia? Why is it you?"
The woman outside the door was Julia. After hearing Yuri's words, she did not say anything, but stepped into the door and pushed Yuri, who was blocking the door, aside.
"Do you think it's Olga?" Julia closed the open door, leaned against it, stared at Yuri, and said.
"No, it's not," Yuri said with embarrassment, blushing, "I just didn't expect it. I didn't expect it to be you."
"No need to explain," Julia smiled nonchalantly and said, "Olga has always been so beautiful. Men's eyes will always be focused on her, all of them are the same."
Yuri touched his nose and didn't know how to respond. Was he trying to say that Julia was quite eye-catching?
"Like I said this morning, Olga and I are from the same place. We have been together since we were young, but we separated after joining the army. No one expected that we would meet here again." Julia raised her hand to lift her hair, said something, then pointed to the chair in the living room and said, "Would you like me to come over and sit down?"
"Oh, of course," Yuri said, hastily making way. "Sit down, please."
Julia walked over leisurely and sat down wrapped in her military coat. Just as she bent down to sit down, Yuri discovered that she seemed to be only wearing underwear under her coat. A touch of white lining was exposed from the open collar of the coat, which was very conspicuous.
Yuri instinctively moved his eyes downward and saw Julia's calves exposed outside the hem of her coat. There were no military pants on her calves, only the standard brown-gray thick-line pants worn by female soldiers. These pants were worn when female soldiers wore skirts in autumn and winter and were tight-fitting.
"Would you like a drink?" Julia obviously noticed Yuri's gaze, but she didn't mind at all. Instead, she smiled and took out a flat bottle of Volga from her arms, raised it up and shook it and said.
"I've drunk a lot today," Yuri's heartbeat quickened. Although he didn't know why Julia came, he had a feeling that something might happen between him and this woman. Although he repeatedly told himself that his target should be Olga and he should keep a distance from this woman, some instinct stirred his emotions, making him feel very excited and expectant.
"Then I'll drink it myself," Julia forced him, unscrewing the bottle cap and taking a big sip.
"You should drink less. Besides, it's getting late. You..." Yuri looked at her raised neck. Julia's neck was very slender and long. When she raised her head, the taut veins in her neck and the deep hollows in her neck were very sexy.
"I hate Olga. I have hated her since I was a child! No matter how well I get along with her on the surface, it won't change that!" Julia suddenly became emotional. Without waiting for Yuri to finish his words, she turned her head sharply, staring at him, and said loudly, "Everyone only pays attention to her, only likes her, and is willing to talk to her. But I am only a green leaf that sets off her. Even when introducing myself to others, they would say, 'Look, this is Olga's friend.' I hate this, I have always hated this, from childhood to adulthood!"
Yuri was startled by her. After he reacted, he subconsciously looked towards the door and said, "Keep your voice down. You'll disturb others."
Julia was just venting her emotions for the moment, and after she said this, she calmed down.
"I know you like Olga," Julia said after taking another sip of wine, turning her head to look at the book Yuri had spread out on the table, "but do you think she likes you? Yes, I think you must think she really likes you, but I have to tell you, if you expect Olga's sincerity, then you will probably be disappointed forever. She won't really like you, and even, except for herself, she won't like anyone in this world."
"You've drunk too much, Julia," Yuri said, a little unhappy. He twitched his mouth.
"I'm drunk? Well, I may be drunk, but what I told you is true," Julia said with a mocking smile, "Olga and you are both from Leningrad. As she said, she knew you before coming to Moscow."
"What's the matter?" Yuri said a little annoyed.
"But in the past month or so, why has this person who has known you for a long time never talked to you?" Qiao Liya sneered, "We live so close to each other, don't you find it strange?"
Yuri's heart skipped a beat. It was true. He had never thought about this question before.
