Chapter 14: Dragon Slaying
Chapter 14
It was really late to slay the dragon. The banquet started early in the morning. Now the scorching sun was shining from the highest point on the mountain. However, Selsi and Tarasha didn't care about that. The most urgent thing was to solve the problem of their stomachs. In order to maintain etiquette at the banquet, they often couldn't eat much. Now the two were really hungry, and they decided to replenish their energy first.
Gossip is the best dish to go with rice. The two ate while listening to other people's gossip.
"I heard that the teams that went to Dragon Valley last time were all wiped out there."
"They said it was a dangerous activity. You are lucky to survive."
"If it were me, I would definitely go. That's Dragon Valley. The wealth inside is so rich that I can't use it up in this lifetime. It's just that those people are blind and don't want me because I am blind. I, with my wisdom..."
"..."
This is not a new topic, the dragon slaying operation. Every year, the dragons would wantonly rob people of their wealth and attack humans. To ensure the safety of humans, the Empire would hold this event every year. There was no time limit. The Royal Dragon Slayer Knights and the Dragon Slayer Team from all over the country would go to kill the dragons. Killing a dragon would earn them a large bonus, but dragons were so huge and terrifying that few people succeeded.
Despite this, a large number of people still went to kill dragons every year.
There was a Dragon Valley in the northern mountains of the Leviston family's territory.
The nearest route to the direction where Selsi and Tarasha were going happened to pass through this mountain range. If they went with the Dragon Slayer Team, at least they could have someone to look after them - this was the idea of most people passing through this place. If this team really succeeded in killing the dragon, maybe they could get some good reputation.
"What do you think?" Tarasha asked Selsi after she finished eating.
Selsi put down her knife and fork, wiped her mouth, and replied "Not so much".
Tarasha smiled, "Me too."
Their purpose was different from that of the Dragon Slayer Team, and it would increase the danger if they went with them.
There was a noisy parade downstairs. Their private room had a window. Selsi stuck her head out and saw that the team coming was recruiting people to join the dragon-killing team. The people who joined ranged from middle-aged to young, and both men and women were full of passion. Selsi looked at the old women and men holding their children's hands and reluctant to leave. Some of these ambitious people looked reluctant, while others turned around and chose to expand the team.
"They are probably in danger. Isn't it better to manage their current life well? Why do they have to take this risk?" Tarasha also saw it and commented coldly.
Selsi turned her head to look at Tarasha's profile. In the Leviston manor, she knew that the other party was definitely not from Hofgard. The etiquette she showed was not something that a commoner would know. Her temperament and behavior all showed that she might have been a noble, at least a rich lady, and most likely from Atherton. When she took out the invitation letter, she mentioned a certain family. Although the other party tried her best to cover it up, she still noticed it, and it might be related to the Caedmon family.
Now, looking at her slightly noble speech, although knowing it was unnecessary, she still explained: "But this may be the fastest way for them to improve their lives."
Of course, Tarasha knew that she knew better than anyone how eager a person would be when he wanted to change his identity.
Neither of them spoke again. As they watched the parade go away, they were ready to leave.
The two of them walked forward leisurely. A few days later, they arrived at the entrance to the mountain. Unexpectedly, there was still a dragon-killing team that had not entered.
"Are you two here to kill dragons too?" The man who seemed to be the captain of the team spoke first.
"No, we just have to leave here and happen to cross this valley." Tarasha remained indifferent and did not speak, and the job of chatting fell to Selsi.
"Would you two like to go with us? There are dragons in this mountain range. We can guarantee your safety if you go with us." The man invited.
"No, we can go by ourselves." Selsi refused decisively. She heard someone whispering that she was ungrateful and that she didn't need to pay attention to the barking of dogs, Tarasha thought to herself.
The captain pretended not to hear it, but he actually agreed in his heart, but he still didn't force the two of them. The group went their separate ways at the entrance.
